नीतिवचन 15

1 १ कोमल उत्तर सुनने से जलजलाहट ठण्डी होती है, परन्तु कटुवचन से क्रोध भड़क उठता है।

A soft answer turns back fury, And a grievous word raises up anger.

2 २ बुद्धिमान ज्ञान का ठीक बखान करते हैं, परन्तु मूर्खों के मुँह से मूर्खता उबल आती है।

The tongue of the wise makes knowledge good, And the mouth of fools utters folly.

3 ३ यहोवा की आँखें सब स्थानों में लगी रहती हैं, वह बुरे भले दोनों को देखती रहती हैं।

The eyes of YHWH are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.

4 ४ शान्ति देनेवाली बात जीवन-वृक्ष है, परन्तु उलट-फेर की बात से आत्मा दुःखित होती है।

A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it—a breach in the spirit.

5 ५ मूर्ख अपने पिता की शिक्षा का तिरस्कार करता है, परन्तु जो डाँट को मानता, वह विवेकी हो जाता है।

A fool despises the instruction of his father, And whoever is regarding reproof is prudent.

6 ६ धर्मी के घर में बहुत धन रहता है, परन्तु दुष्ट के कमाई में दुःख रहता है।

Abundant strength [is in] the house of the righteous, And in the increase of the wicked—trouble.

7 ७ बुद्धिमान लोग बातें करने से ज्ञान को फैलाते हैं, परन्तु मूर्खों का मन ठीक नहीं रहता।

The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.

8 ८ दुष्ट लोगों के बलिदान से यहोवा घृणा करता है, परन्तु वह सीधे लोगों की प्रार्थना से प्रसन्न होता है।

The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.

9 ९ दुष्ट के चाल चलन से यहोवा को घृणा आती है, परन्तु जो धर्म का पीछा करता उससे वह प्रेम रखता है।

The way of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And He loves whoever is pursuing righteousness.

10 १० जो मार्ग को छोड़ देता, उसको बड़ी ताड़ना मिलती है, और जो डाँट से बैर रखता, वह अवश्य मर जाता है।

Discipline [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoever is hating reproof dies.

11 ११ जबकि अधोलोक और विनाशलोक यहोवा के सामने खुले रहते हैं, तो निश्चय मनुष्यों के मन भी। (Sheol h7585)

Sheol and destruction [are] before YHWH, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men. (Sheol h7585)

12 १२ ठट्ठा करनेवाला डाँटे जाने से प्रसन्न नहीं होता, और न वह बुद्धिमानों के पास जाता है।

A scorner does not love his reprover, He does not go to the wise.

13 १३ मन आनन्दित होने से मुख पर भी प्रसन्नता छा जाती है, परन्तु मन के दुःख से आत्मा निराश होती है।

A joyful heart makes the face glad, And the spirit is struck by grief of heart.

14 १४ समझनेवाले का मन ज्ञान की खोज में रहता है, परन्तु मूर्ख लोग मूर्खता से पेट भरते हैं।

The heart of the intelligent seeks knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoys folly.

15 १५ दुःखियारे के सब दिन दुःख भरे रहते हैं, परन्तु जिसका मन प्रसन्न रहता है, वह मानो नित्य भोज में जाता है।

All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.

16 १६ घबराहट के साथ बहुत रखे हुए धन से, यहोवा के भय के साथ थोड़ा ही धन उत्तम है,

Better [is] a little with the fear of YHWH, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.

17 १७ प्रेमवाले घर में सागपात का भोजन, बैरवाले घर में स्वादिष्ट माँस खाने से उत्तम है।

Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.

18 १८ क्रोधी पुरुष झगड़ा मचाता है, परन्तु जो विलम्ब से क्रोध करनेवाला है, वह मुकद्दमों को दबा देता है।

A man of fury stirs up contention, And the slow to anger appeases strife.

19 १९ आलसी का मार्ग काँटों से रुन्धा हुआ होता है, परन्तु सीधे लोगों का मार्ग राजमार्ग ठहरता है।

The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.

20 २० बुद्धिमान पुत्र से पिता आनन्दित होता है, परन्तु मूर्ख अपनी माता को तुच्छ जानता है।

A wise son makes a father glad. And a foolish man is despising his mother.

21 २१ निर्बुद्धि को मूर्खता से आनन्द होता है, परन्तु समझवाला मनुष्य सीधी चाल चलता है।

Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directs [his] going.

22 २२ बिना सम्मति की कल्पनाएँ निष्फल होती हैं, परन्तु बहुत से मंत्रियों की सम्मति से सफलता मिलती है।

The making void of purposes [is] without counsel, And in a multitude of counselors it is established.

23 २३ सज्जन उत्तर देने से आनन्दित होता है, और अवसर पर कहा हुआ वचन क्या ही भला होता है!

Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season—how good!

24 २४ विवेकी के लिये जीवन का मार्ग ऊपर की ओर जाता है, इस रीति से वह अधोलोक में पड़ने से बच जाता है। (Sheol h7585)

A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath. (Sheol h7585)

25 २५ यहोवा अहंकारियों के घर को ढा देता है, परन्तु विधवा की सीमाओं को अटल रखता है।

YHWH pulls down the house of the proud, And He sets up the border of the widow.

26 २६ बुरी कल्पनाएँ यहोवा को घिनौनी लगती हैं, परन्तु शुद्ध जन के वचन मनभावने हैं।

Thoughts of wickedness [are] an abomination to YHWH, And sayings of pleasantness [are] pure.

27 २७ लालची अपने घराने को दुःख देता है, परन्तु घूस से घृणा करनेवाला जीवित रहता है।

A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoever is hating gifts lives.

28 २८ धर्मी मन में सोचता है कि क्या उत्तर दूँ, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह से बुरी बातें उबल आती हैं।

The heart of the righteous meditates to answer, And the mouth of the wicked utters evil things.

29 २९ यहोवा दुष्टों से दूर रहता है, परन्तु धर्मियों की प्रार्थना सुनता है।

YHWH [is] far from the wicked, And He hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 ३० आँखों की चमक से मन को आनन्द होता है, और अच्छे समाचार से हड्डियाँ पुष्ट होती हैं।

The light of the eyes makes the heart glad, A good report makes the bone fat.

31 ३१ जो जीवनदायी डाँट कान लगाकर सुनता है, वह बुद्धिमानों के संग ठिकाना पाता है।

An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Lodges among the wise.

32 ३२ जो शिक्षा को अनसुनी करता, वह अपने प्राण को तुच्छ जानता है, परन्तु जो डाँट को सुनता, वह बुद्धि प्राप्त करता है।

Whoever is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoever is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.

33 ३३ यहोवा के भय मानने से बुद्धि की शिक्षा प्राप्त होती है, और महिमा से पहले नम्रता आती है।

The fear of YHWH [is] the instruction of wisdom, And humility [is] before honor!
