नीतिवचन 12

1 १ जो शिक्षा पाने से प्रीति रखता है वह ज्ञान से प्रीति रखता है, परन्तु जो डाँट से बैर रखता, वह पशु के समान मूर्ख है।

He that loveth correction, loveth knowledge, but, he that hateth reproof, is brutish.

2 २ भले मनुष्य से तो यहोवा प्रसन्न होता है, परन्तु बुरी युक्ति करनेवाले को वह दोषी ठहराता है।

A good man, obtaineth favour from Yahweh, but, a man of wicked devices, will he condemn.

3 ३ कोई मनुष्य दुष्टता के कारण स्थिर नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्मियों की जड़ उखड़ने की नहीं।

A son of earth, shall not be established, by lawlessness, but, the root of the righteous, shall not be disturbed.

4 ४ भली स्त्री अपने पति का मुकुट है, परन्तु जो लज्जा के काम करती वह मानो उसकी हड्डियों के सड़ने का कारण होती है।

A virtuous woman, is the crown of her husband, but, a veritable decay in his bones, is she that causeth shame.

5 ५ धर्मियों की कल्पनाएँ न्याय ही की होती हैं, परन्तु दुष्टों की युक्तियाँ छल की हैं।

The plans of the righteous, are just, but, the counsels of the lawless, are deceitful.

6 ६ दुष्टों की बातचीत हत्या करने के लिये घात लगाने के समान होता है, परन्तु सीधे लोग अपने मुँह की बात के द्वारा छुड़ानेवाले होते हैं।

The words of the lawless, are—of lying in wait for blood, but, the mouth of the upright, shall deliver them.

7 ७ जब दुष्ट लोग उलटे जाते हैं तब वे रहते ही नहीं, परन्तु धर्मियों का घर स्थिर रहता है।

Overthrown are the lawless and they are not, but, the house of the righteous, shall stand.

8 ८ मनुष्य की बुद्धि के अनुसार उसकी प्रशंसा होती है, परन्तु कुटिल तुच्छ जाना जाता है।

In proportion to his prudence, is a man, to be praised, but, the perverse in heart, shall be an object of contempt.

9 ९ जिसके पास खाने को रोटी तक नहीं, पर अपने बारे में डींगे मारता है, उससे दास रखनेवाला साधारण मनुष्य ही उत्तम है।

Better slighted, and have a servant, than to honour oneself, and come short of bread.

10 १० धर्मी अपने पशु के भी प्राण की सुधि रखता है, परन्तु दुष्टों की दया भी निर्दयता है।

A righteous man, regardeth the desire of his beast, but, the compassions of the lawless, are cruel.

11 ११ जो अपनी भूमि को जोतता, वह पेट भर खाता है, परन्तु जो निकम्मों की संगति करता, वह निर्बुद्धि ठहरता है।

He that tilleth his land, shall be filled with food, but, he that runneth after worthless men, lacketh sense.

12 १२ दुष्ट जन बुरे लोगों के लूट के माल की अभिलाषा करते हैं, परन्तु धर्मियों की जड़ें हरी भरी रहती है।

A lawless man craveth the prey of the wicked, but, the root of the righteous, is enduring.

13 १३ बुरा मनुष्य अपने दुर्वचनों के कारण फंदे में फँसता है, परन्तु धर्मी संकट से निकास पाता है।

By the transgression of the lips, is the wicked man, ensnared, but the righteous, cometh out of distress.

14 १४ सज्जन अपने वचनों के फल के द्वारा भलाई से तृप्त होता है, और जैसी जिसकी करनी वैसी उसकी भरनी होती है।

Of the fruit of a man’s mouth, shall he be satisfied with good, and, the dealing of the hands of a son of earth, shall be paid back to him.

15 १५ मूर्ख को अपनी ही चाल सीधी जान पड़ती है, परन्तु जो सम्मति मानता, वह बुद्धिमान है।

The way of the foolish, is right in his own eyes, but, he that hearkeneth to counsel, is wise.

16 १६ मूर्ख की रिस तुरन्त प्रगट हो जाती है, परन्तु विवेकी मनुष्य अपमान को अनदेखा करता है।

A foolish man, on the [same] day, letteth his vexation be known, but, he that concealeth an affront, is prudent.

17 १७ जो सच बोलता है, वह धर्म प्रगट करता है, परन्तु जो झूठी साक्षी देता, वह छल प्रगट करता है।

He that whispereth faithfulness, declareth righteousness, but, a false witness, is a fraud.

18 १८ ऐसे लोग हैं जिनका बिना सोच विचार का बोलना तलवार के समान चुभता है, परन्तु बुद्धिमान के बोलने से लोग चंगे होते हैं।

There is who babbleth, as with thrusts of a sword, but, the tongue of the wise, hath healing.

19 १९ सच्चाई सदा बनी रहेगी, परन्तु झूठ पल भर का होता है।

A lip that is faithful, shall be firm to futurity, but, only for a twinkling, is the tongue that is false.

20 २० बुरी युक्ति करनेवालों के मन में छल रहता है, परन्तु मेल की युक्ति करनेवालों को आनन्द होता है।

Deceit, is in the heart of contrivers of mischief, but, to the counsellors of peace, shall be joy.

21 २१ धर्मी को हानि नहीं होती है, परन्तु दुष्ट लोग सारी विपत्ति में डूब जाते हैं।

Unseemly to the righteous, is any trouble, but, the lawless, are full of misfortune.

22 २२ झूठों से यहोवा को घृणा आती है परन्तु जो ईमानदारी से काम करते हैं, उनसे वह प्रसन्न होता है।

An abomination to Yahweh, are lips that are false, but, he that dealeth faithfully, is his delight.

23 २३ विवेकी मनुष्य ज्ञान को प्रगट नहीं करता है, परन्तु मूर्ख अपने मन की मूर्खता ऊँचे शब्द से प्रचार करता है।

A prudent man, concealeth knowledge, but, the heart of dullards, proclaimeth folly.

24 २४ कामकाजी लोग प्रभुता करते हैं, परन्तु आलसी बेगार में पकड़े जाते हैं।

The hand of the diligent, shall bear rule, but, the indolent, shall come under tribute.

25 २५ उदास मन दब जाता है, परन्तु भली बात से वह आनन्दित होता है।

When anxiety is in the heart of a man, one may bow him down, but, a good word, maketh him glad.

26 २६ धर्मी अपने पड़ोसी की अगुआई करता है, परन्तु दुष्ट लोग अपनी ही चाल के कारण भटक जाते हैं।

The righteous man guideth his neighbour, but, the way of the lawless, leadeth them astray.

27 २७ आलसी अहेर का पीछा नहीं करता, परन्तु कामकाजी को अनमोल वस्तु मिलती है।

Indolence, roasteth not, his own game, but, the substance of a man, is precious, when he is diligent.

28 २८ धर्म के मार्ग में जीवन मिलता है, और उसके पथ में मृत्यु का पता भी नहीं।

In the way of righteousness, is life, and, in the path thereof, immortality,
