नीतिवचन 11

1 १ छल के तराजू से यहोवा को घृणा आती है, परन्तु वह पूरे बटखरे से प्रसन्न होता है।

A FALSE balance is an abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

2 २ जब अभिमान होता, तब अपमान भी होता है, परन्तु नम्र लोगों में बुद्धि होती है।

When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

3 ३ सीधे लोग अपनी खराई से अगुआई पाते हैं, परन्तु विश्वासघाती अपने कपट से नाश होते हैं।

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.

4 ४ कोप के दिन धन से तो कुछ लाभ नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्म मृत्यु से भी बचाता है।

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

5 ५ खरे मनुष्य का मार्ग धर्म के कारण सीधा होता है, परन्तु दुष्ट अपनी दुष्टता के कारण गिर जाता है।

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

6 ६ सीधे लोगों का बचाव उनके धर्म के कारण होता है, परन्तु विश्वासघाती लोग अपनी ही दुष्टता में फँसते हैं।

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but they that deal treacherously shall be taken in their own mischief.

7 ७ जब दुष्ट मरता, तब उसकी आशा टूट जाती है, और अधर्मी की आशा व्यर्थ होती है।

When a wicked man dieth [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of iniquity perisheth.

8 ८ धर्मी विपत्ति से छूट जाता है, परन्तु दुष्ट उसी विपत्ति में पड़ जाता है।

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

9 ९ भक्तिहीन जन अपने पड़ोसी को अपने मुँह की बात से बिगाड़ता है, परन्तु धर्मी लोग ज्ञान के द्वारा बचते हैं।

With his mouth the godless man destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the righteous be delivered.

10 १० जब धर्मियों का कल्याण होता है, तब नगर के लोग प्रसन्न होते हैं, परन्तु जब दुष्ट नाश होते, तब जय जयकार होता है।

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

11 ११ सीधे लोगों के आशीर्वाद से नगर की बढ़ती होती है, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह की बात से वह ढाया जाता है।

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 १२ जो अपने पड़ोसी को तुच्छ जानता है, वह निर्बुद्धि है, परन्तु समझदार पुरुष चुपचाप रहता है।

He that despiseth his neighbour is void of wisdom: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13 १३ जो चुगली करता फिरता वह भेद प्रगट करता है, परन्तु विश्वासयोग्य मनुष्य बात को छिपा रखता है।

He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

14 १४ जहाँ बुद्धि की युक्ति नहीं, वहाँ प्रजा विपत्ति में पड़ती है; परन्तु सम्मति देनेवालों की बहुतायत के कारण बचाव होता है।

Where no wise guidance is, the people falleth: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

15 १५ जो परदेशी का उत्तरदायी होता है, वह बड़ा दुःख उठाता है, परन्तु जो जमानत लेने से घृणा करता, वह निडर रहता है।

He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: but he that hateth suretiship is sure.

16 १६ अनुग्रह करनेवाली स्त्री प्रतिष्ठा नहीं खोती है, और उग्र लोग धन को नहीं खोते।

A gracious woman retaineth honour: and violent men retain riches.

17 १७ कृपालु मनुष्य अपना ही भला करता है, परन्तु जो क्रूर है, वह अपनी ही देह को दुःख देता है।

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 १८ दुष्ट मिथ्या कमाई कमाता है, परन्तु जो धर्म का बीज बोता, उसको निश्चय फल मिलता है।

The wicked earneth deceitful wages: but he that soweth righteousness [hath] a sure reward.

19 १९ जो धर्म में दृढ़ रहता, वह जीवन पाता है, परन्तु जो बुराई का पीछा करता, वह मर जाएगा।

He that is stedfast in righteousness [shall attain] unto life: and he that pursueth evil [doeth it] to his own death.

20 २० जो मन के टेढ़े हैं, उनसे यहोवा को घृणा आती है, परन्तु वह खरी चालवालों से प्रसन्न रहता है।

They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD: but such as are perfect in [their] way are his delight.

21 २१ निश्‍चय जानो, बुरा मनुष्य निर्दोष न ठहरेगा, परन्तु धर्मी का वंश बचाया जाएगा।

[Though] hand [join] in hand, the evil man shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 २२ जो सुन्दर स्त्री विवेक नहीं रखती, वह थूथन में सोने की नत्थ पहने हुए सूअर के समान है।

[As a] jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.

23 २३ धर्मियों की लालसा तो केवल भलाई की होती है; परन्तु दुष्टों की आशा का फल क्रोध ही होता है।

The desire of the righteous is only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

24 २४ ऐसे हैं, जो छितरा देते हैं, फिर भी उनकी बढ़ती ही होती है; और ऐसे भी हैं जो यथार्थ से कम देते हैं, और इससे उनकी घटती ही होती है।

There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] only to want.

25 २५ उदार प्राणी हष्ट-पुष्ट हो जाता है, और जो औरों की खेती सींचता है, उसकी भी सींची जाएगी।

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

26 २६ जो अपना अनाज जमाखोरी करता है, उसको लोग श्राप देते हैं, परन्तु जो उसे बेच देता है, उसको आशीर्वाद दिया जाता है।

He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

27 २७ जो यत्न से भलाई करता है वह दूसरों की प्रसन्नता खोजता है, परन्तु जो दूसरे की बुराई का खोजी होता है, उसी पर बुराई आ पड़ती है।

He that diligently seeketh good seeketh favour: but he that searcheth after mischief, it shall come unto him.

28 २८ जो अपने धन पर भरोसा रखता है वह सूखे पत्ते के समान गिर जाता है, परन्तु धर्मी लोग नये पत्ते के समान लहलहाते हैं।

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

29 २९ जो अपने घराने को दुःख देता, उसका भाग वायु ही होगा, और मूर्ख बुद्धिमान का दास हो जाता है।

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.

30 ३० धर्मी का प्रतिफल जीवन का वृक्ष होता है, और बुद्धिमान मनुष्य लोगों के मन को मोह लेता है।

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that is wise winneth souls.

31 ३१ देख, धर्मी को पृथ्वी पर फल मिलेगा, तो निश्चय है कि दुष्ट और पापी को भी मिलेगा।

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: how much more the wicked and the sinner!
