नीतिवचन 10

1 १ सुलैमान के नीतिवचन। बुद्धिमान सन्तान से पिता आनन्दित होता है, परन्तु मूर्ख सन्तान के कारण माता को शोक होता है।

The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son, maketh a glad father, but, a foolish son, is the grief of his mother.

2 २ दुष्टों के रखे हुए धन से लाभ नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्म के कारण मृत्यु से बचाव होता है।

The treasures of lawlessness, do not profit, but, righteousness, delivereth from death.

3 ३ धर्मी को यहोवा भूखा मरने नहीं देता, परन्तु दुष्टों की अभिलाषा वह पूरी होने नहीं देता।

Yahweh, suffereth not to famish, the soul of the righteous, but, the desire of the lawless, he thrusteth away.

4 ४ जो काम में ढिलाई करता है, वह निर्धन हो जाता है, परन्तु कामकाजी लोग अपने हाथों के द्वारा धनी होते हैं।

He becometh poor, who dealeth with a slack hand, but, the hand of the diligent, maketh rich.

5 ५ बुद्धिमान सन्तान धूपकाल में फसल बटोरता है, परन्तु जो सन्तान कटनी के समय भारी नींद में पड़ा रहता है, वह लज्जा का कारण होता है।

He that gathereth in summer, is a prudent son, he that sleepeth long in harvest, is a son causing shame.

6 ६ धर्मी पर बहुत से आशीर्वाद होते हैं, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह में उपद्रव छिपा रहता है।

Blessings, are for the head of the righteous man, but, the mouth of the lawless, covereth up wrong.

7 ७ धर्मी को स्मरण करके लोग आशीर्वाद देते हैं, परन्तु दुष्टों का नाम मिट जाता है।

The memory of the righteous, yieldeth blessing, but, the name of the lawless, dieth out.

8 ८ जो बुद्धिमान है, वह आज्ञाओं को स्वीकार करता है, परन्तु जो बकवादी मूर्ख है, उसका नाश होता है।

The wise in heart, will accept commandments, but, he that is foolish with his lips, shall be thrust away.

9 ९ जो खराई से चलता है वह निडर चलता है, परन्तु जो टेढ़ी चाल चलता है उसकी चाल प्रगट हो जाती है।

He that walketh uprightly, may walk securely, but, he that maketh crooked his ways, shall be found out.

10 १० जो नैन से सैन करके बुरे काम के लिए इशारा करता है उससे औरों को दुःख होता है, और जो बकवादी मूर्ख है, उसका नाश होगा।

He that winketh with the eye, causeth sorrow, and, he that is foolish with his lips, shall be thrust aside.

11 ११ धर्मी का मुँह तो जीवन का सोता है, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह में उपद्रव छिपा रहता है।

A well-spring of life, is the mouth of the righteous, but, the mouth of the lawless, covereth wrong.

12 १२ बैर से तो झगड़े उत्पन्न होते हैं, परन्तु प्रेम से सब अपराध ढँप जाते हैं।

Hatred, stirreth up strifes, but, over all transgressions, love throweth a covering.

13 १३ समझवालों के वचनों में बुद्धि पाई जाती है, परन्तु निर्बुद्धि की पीठ के लिये कोड़ा है।

In the lips of the intelligent, is found wisdom, but, a rod, is for the back of him that lacketh sense.

14 १४ बुद्धिमान लोग ज्ञान का संग्रह करते है, परन्तु मूर्ख के बोलने से विनाश होता है।

Wise men, treasure up knowledge, but, the mouth of the foolish, is a terror near at hand.

15 १५ धनी का धन उसका दृढ़ नगर है, परन्तु कंगाल की निर्धनता उसके विनाश का कारण हैं।

The substance of the rich, is his strong city, the terror of the poor, is their poverty.

16 १६ धर्मी का परिश्रम जीवन की ओर ले जाता है; परन्तु दुष्ट का लाभ पाप की ओर ले जाता है।

The labour of the righteous, [leadeth] to life, the increase of the lawless, to sin.

17 १७ जो शिक्षा पर चलता वह जीवन के मार्ग पर है, परन्तु जो डाँट से मुँह मोड़ता, वह भटकता है।

On the way to life, is he that heedeth correction, but, he that hateth reproof, is going astray.

18 १८ जो बैर को छिपा रखता है, वह झूठ बोलता है, और जो झूठी निन्दा फैलाता है, वह मूर्ख है।

He that concealeth hatred, hath false lips, and he that sendeth forth slander, the same, is a dullard.

19 १९ जहाँ बहुत बातें होती हैं, वहाँ अपराध भी होता है, परन्तु जो अपने मुँह को बन्द रखता है वह बुद्धि से काम करता है।

In the multitude of words, there wanteth not transgression, but, he that restraineth his lips, sheweth prudence.

20 २० धर्मी के वचन तो उत्तम चाँदी हैं; परन्तु दुष्टों का मन बहुत हलका होता है।

Choice silver, is the tongue of the righteous, but, the sense of the lawless, is very small.

21 २१ धर्मी के वचनों से बहुतों का पालन-पोषण होता है, परन्तु मूर्ख लोग बुद्धिहीनता के कारण मर जाते हैं।

The lips of the righteous, feed multitudes, but, the foolish, for lack of sense, shall die.

22 २२ धन यहोवा की आशीष ही से मिलता है, और वह उसके साथ दुःख नहीं मिलाता।

The blessing of Yahweh, itself maketh rich, and he addeth no grievance therewith.

23 २३ मूर्ख को तो महापाप करना हँसी की बात जान पड़ती है, परन्तु समझवाले व्यक्ति के लिए बुद्धि प्रसन्नता का विषय है।

It is, mere sport to a stupid man, to commit lewdness, but, wisdom, pertaineth to a man of understanding.

24 २४ दुष्ट जन जिस विपत्ति से डरता है, वह उस पर आ पड़ती है, परन्तु धर्मियों की लालसा पूरी होती है।

The dread of the lawless one, the same, shall overtake him, but, the desire of the righteous, shall he granted.

25 २५ दुष्ट जन उस बवण्डर के समान है, जो गुजरते ही लोप हो जाता है परन्तु धर्मी सदा स्थिर रहता है।

Like the passing away of a tempest, so the lawless one is not, but, the righteous, [hath] an age-abiding foundation.

26 २६ जैसे दाँत को सिरका, और आँख को धुआँ, वैसे आलसी उनको लगता है जो उसको कहीं भेजते हैं।

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so, is the sluggard, to them who send him.

27 २७ यहोवा के भय मानने से आयु बढ़ती है, परन्तु दुष्टों का जीवन थोड़े ही दिनों का होता है।

The reverence of Yahweh, addeth days, but, the years of the lawless, shall be shortened.

28 २८ धर्मियों को आशा रखने में आनन्द मिलता है, परन्तु दुष्टों की आशा टूट जाती है।

The hope of the righteous, shall be gladness, but, the expectation of the lawless, shall vanish.

29 २९ यहोवा खरे मनुष्य का गढ़ ठहरता है, परन्तु अनर्थकारियों का विनाश होता है।

A refuge for the blameless, is the path of Yahweh, but, destruction, [awaiteth] the workers of iniquity.

30 ३० धर्मी सदा अटल रहेगा, परन्तु दुष्ट पृथ्वी पर बसने न पाएँगे।

The righteous, to times age-abiding, shall remain unshaken, but, the lawless, shall not inhabit the earth.

31 ३१ धर्मी के मुँह से बुद्धि टपकती है, पर उलट-फेर की बात कहनेवाले की जीभ काटी जाएगी।

The mouth of the righteous, beareth the fruit of wisdom, but, a perverse tongue, shall be cut off.

32 ३२ धर्मी ग्रहणयोग्य बात समझकर बोलता है, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह से उलट-फेर की बातें निकलती हैं।

The lips of the righteous, know what is pleasing, but, the mouth of the lawless, [speaketh] perversities.
