1 १ तब यूसुफ के पुत्र मनश्शे के वंश के कुलों में से सलोफाद, जो हेपेर का पुत्र, और गिलाद का पोता, और मनश्शे के पुत्र माकीर का परपोता था, उसकी बेटियाँ जिनके नाम महला, नोवा, होग्ला, मिल्का, और तिर्सा हैं वे पास आईं।
Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget], of the families of Manasseh [Causing to forget] the son of Joseph [May he add] came near. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah [Rest], and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
2 २ और वे मूसा और एलीआजर याजक और प्रधानों और सारी मण्डली के सामने मिलापवाले तम्बू के द्वार पर खड़ी होकर कहने लगीं,
They stood before Moses [Drawn out], and before Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the door of the Tent of Meeting, saying,
3 ३ “हमारा पिता जंगल में मर गया; परन्तु वह उस मण्डली में का न था जो कोरह की मण्डली के संग होकर यहोवा के विरुद्ध इकट्ठी हुई थी, वह अपने ही पाप के कारण मरा; और उसके कोई पुत्र न था।
“Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against Adonai in the company of Korach [Bald one, Frost], but he died in his own crime deserving penalty, sin ·missing the goal·. He had no sons.
4 ४ तो हमारे पिता का नाम उसके कुल में से पुत्र न होने के कारण क्यों मिट जाए? हमारे चाचाओं के बीच हमें भी कुछ भूमि निज भाग करके दे।”
Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among the brothers of our father.”
Moses [Drawn out] brought their mishpat ·case· before Adonai.
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
7 ७ “सलोफाद की बेटियाँ ठीक कहती हैं; इसलिए तू उनके चाचाओं के बीच उनको भी अवश्य ही कुछ भूमि निज भाग करके दे, अर्थात् उनके पिता का भाग उनके हाथ सौंप दे।
“The daughters of Zelophehad speak right. You shall surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers. You shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.
8 ८ और इस्राएलियों से यह कह, ‘यदि कोई मनुष्य बिना पुत्र मर जाए, तो उसका भाग उसकी बेटी के हाथ सौंपना।
You shall speak to the children of Israel [God prevails], saying, ‘If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.
If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11 ११ और यदि उसके चाचा भी न हों, तो उसके कुल में से उसका जो कुटुम्बी सबसे समीप हो उनको उसका भाग देना कि वह उसका अधिकारी हो। इस्राएलियों के लिये यह न्याय की विधि ठहरेगी, जैसे कि यहोवा ने मूसा को आज्ञा दी।’”
If his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman who is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. This shall be a statute and judgement for the children of Israel [God prevails], as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].’”
12 १२ फिर यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, “इस अबारीम नामक पर्वत के ऊपर चढ़कर उस देश को देख ले जिसे मैंने इस्राएलियों को दिया है।
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel [God prevails].
When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron [Light-bringer] your brother was gathered;
14 १४ क्योंकि सीन नामक जंगल में तुम दोनों ने मण्डली के झगड़ने के समय मेरी आज्ञा को तोड़कर मुझसे बलवा किया, और मुझे सोते के पास उनकी दृष्टि में पवित्र नहीं ठहराया।” (यह मरीबा नामक सोता है जो सीन नामक जंगल के कादेश में है)
because in the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, to honor me as holy at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the waters of Meribah [Quarreling] of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
Moses [Drawn out] spoke to Adonai, saying,
16 १६ “यहोवा, जो सारे प्राणियों की आत्माओं का परमेश्वर है, वह इस मण्डली के लोगों के ऊपर किसी पुरुष को नियुक्त कर दे,
“Let Adonai, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,
17 १७ जो उसके सामने आया-जाया करे, और उनका निकालने और बैठानेवाला हो; जिससे यहोवा की मण्डली बिना चरवाहे की भेड़-बकरियों के समान न रहे।”
who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of Adonai not be as sheep which have no shepherd.”
18 १८ यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, “तू नून के पुत्र यहोशू को लेकर उस पर हाथ रख; वह तो ऐसा पुरुष है जिसमें मेरा आत्मा बसा है;
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Take Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun, a man in whom is the breath mind Spirit, and lay your hand on him.
Set him before Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and before all the congregation; and enjoin him in their sight.
You shall give authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] may obey.
21 २१ और वह एलीआजर याजक के सामने खड़ा हुआ करे, और एलीआजर उसके लिये यहोवा से ऊरीम की आज्ञा पूछा करे; और वह इस्राएलियों की सारी मण्डली समेत उसके कहने से जाया करे, और उसी के कहने से लौट भी आया करे।”
He shall stand before Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgments of the Urim before Adonai. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel [God prevails] with him, even all the congregation.”
22 २२ यहोवा की इस आज्ञा के अनुसार मूसा ने यहोशू को लेकर, एलीआजर याजक और सारी मण्डली के सामने खड़ा करके,
Moses [Drawn out] did as Adonai enjoined him. He took Joshua [Yah Salvation], and set him before Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and before all the congregation.
He laid his hands on him, and enjoined him, as Adonai spoke by Moses [Drawn out].
