अय्यूब 5

1 १ “पुकारकर देख; क्या कोई है जो तुझे उत्तर देगा? और पवित्रों में से तू किसकी ओर फिरेगा?

Pray, call, is there any to answer thee? And unto which of the holy ones dost thou turn?

2 २ क्योंकि मूर्ख तो खेद करते-करते नाश हो जाता है, और निर्बुद्धि जलते-जलते मर मिटता है।

For provocation slayeth the perverse, And envy putteth to death the simple,

3 ३ मैंने मूर्ख को जड़ पकड़ते देखा है; परन्तु अचानक मैंने उसके वासस्थान को धिक्कारा।

I — I have seen the perverse taking root, And I mark his habitation straightway,

4 ४ उसके बच्चे सुरक्षा से दूर हैं, और वे फाटक में पीसे जाते हैं, और कोई नहीं है जो उन्हें छुड़ाए।

Far are his sons from safety, And they are bruised in the gate, And there is no deliverer.

5 ५ उसके खेत की उपज भूखे लोग खा लेते हैं, वरन् कँटीली बाड़ में से भी निकाल लेते हैं; और प्यासा उनके धन के लिये फंदा लगाता है।

Whose harvest the hungry doth eat, And even from the thorns taketh it, And the designing swallowed their wealth.

6 ६ क्योंकि विपत्ति धूल से उत्पन्न नहीं होती, और न कष्ट भूमि में से उगता है;

For sorrow cometh not forth from the dust, Nor from the ground springeth up misery.

7 ७ परन्तु जैसे चिंगारियाँ ऊपर ही ऊपर को उड़ जाती हैं, वैसे ही मनुष्य कष्ट ही भोगने के लिये उत्पन्न हुआ है।

For man to misery is born, And the sparks go high to fly.

8 ८ “परन्तु मैं तो परमेश्वर ही को खोजता रहूँगा और अपना मुकद्दमा परमेश्वर पर छोड़ दूँगा,

Yet I — I inquire for God, And for God I give my word,

9 ९ वह तो ऐसे बड़े काम करता है जिनकी थाह नहीं लगती, और इतने आश्चर्यकर्म करता है, जो गिने नहीं जाते।

Doing great things, and there is no searching. Wonderful, till there is no numbering.

10 १० वही पृथ्वी के ऊपर वर्षा करता, और खेतों पर जल बरसाता है।

Who is giving rain on the face of the land, And is sending waters on the out-places.

11 ११ इसी रीति वह नम्र लोगों को ऊँचे स्थान पर बैठाता है, और शोक का पहरावा पहने हुए लोग ऊँचे पर पहुँचकर बचते हैं।

To set the low on a high place, And the mourners have been high [in] safety.

12 १२ वह तो धूर्त लोगों की कल्पनाएँ व्यर्थ कर देता है, और उनके हाथों से कुछ भी बन नहीं पड़ता।

Making void thoughts of the subtile, And their hands do not execute wisdom.

13 १३ वह बुद्धिमानों को उनकी धूर्तता ही में फँसाता है; और कुटिल लोगों की युक्ति दूर की जाती है।

Capturing the wise in their subtilty, And the counsel of wrestling ones was hastened,

14 १४ उन पर दिन को अंधेरा छा जाता है, और दिन दुपहरी में वे रात के समान टटोलते फिरते हैं।

By day they meet darkness, And as night — they grope at noon.

15 १५ परन्तु वह दरिद्रों को उनके वचनरुपी तलवार से और बलवानों के हाथ से बचाता है।

And He saveth the wasted from their mouth, And from a strong hand the needy,

16 १६ इसलिए कंगालों को आशा होती है, और कुटिल मनुष्यों का मुँह बन्द हो जाता है।

And there is hope to the poor, And perverseness hath shut her mouth.

17 १७ “देख, क्या ही धन्य वह मनुष्य, जिसको परमेश्वर ताड़ना देता है; इसलिए तू सर्वशक्तिमान की ताड़ना को तुच्छ मत जान।

Lo, the happiness of mortal man, God doth reprove him: And the chastisement of the Mighty despise not,

18 १८ क्योंकि वही घायल करता, और वही पट्टी भी बाँधता है; वही मारता है, और वही अपने हाथों से चंगा भी करता है।

For He doth pain, and He bindeth up, He smiteth, and His hands heal.

19 १९ वह तुझे छः विपत्तियों से छुड़ाएगा; वरन् सात से भी तेरी कुछ हानि न होने पाएगी।

In six distresses He delivereth thee, And in seven evil striketh not on thee.

20 २० अकाल में वह तुझे मृत्यु से, और युद्ध में तलवार की धार से बचा लेगा।

In famine He hath redeemed thee from death, And in battle from the hands of the sword.

21 २१ तू वचनरुपी कोड़े से बचा रहेगा और जब विनाश आए, तब भी तुझे भय न होगा।

When the tongue scourgeth thou art hid, And thou art not afraid of destruction, When it cometh.

22 २२ तू उजाड़ और अकाल के दिनों में हँसमुख रहेगा, और तुझे जंगली जन्तुओं से डर न लगेगा।

At destruction and at hunger thou mockest, And of the beast of the earth, Thou art not afraid.

23 २३ वरन् मैदान के पत्थर भी तुझ से वाचा बाँधे रहेंगे, और वन पशु तुझ से मेल रखेंगे।

(For with sons of the field [is] thy covenant, And the beast of the field Hath been at peace with thee.)

24 २४ और तुझे निश्चय होगा, कि तेरा डेरा कुशल से है, और जब तू अपने निवास में देखे तब कोई वस्तु खोई न होगी।

And thou hast known that thy tent [is] peace, And inspected thy habitation, and errest not,

25 २५ तुझे यह भी निश्चित होगा, कि मेरे बहुत वंश होंगे, और मेरी सन्तान पृथ्वी की घास के तुल्य बहुत होंगी।

And hast known that numerous [is] Thy seed, And thine offspring as the herb of the earth;

26 २६ जैसे पूलियों का ढेर समय पर खलिहान में रखा जाता है, वैसे ही तू पूरी अवस्था का होकर कब्र को पहुँचेगा।

Thou comest in full age unto the grave, As the going up of a stalk in its season.

27 २७ देख, हमने खोज खोजकर ऐसा ही पाया है; इसे तू सुन, और अपने लाभ के लिये ध्यान में रख।”

Lo, this — we searched it out — it [is] right, hearken; And thou, know for thyself!
