अय्यूब 31

1 १ “मैंने अपनी आँखों के विषय वाचा बाँधी है, फिर मैं किसी कुँवारी पर क्यों आँखें लगाऊँ?

I made a covenant with mine eyes, and I will not think upon a virgin.

2 २ क्योंकि परमेश्वर स्वर्ग से कौन सा अंश और सर्वशक्तिमान ऊपर से कौन सी सम्पत्ति बाँटता है?

Now what portion has God given from above? and is there an inheritance [given] of the Mighty One from the highest?

3 ३ क्या वह कुटिल मनुष्यों के लिये विपत्ति और अनर्थ काम करनेवालों के लिये सत्यानाश का कारण नहीं है?

Alas! destruction to the unrighteous, and rejection to them that do iniquity.

4 ४ क्या वह मेरी गति नहीं देखता और क्या वह मेरे पग-पग नहीं गिनता?

Will he not see my way, and number all my steps?

5 ५ यदि मैं व्यर्थ चाल चलता हूँ, या कपट करने के लिये मेरे पैर दौड़े हों;

But if I had gone with scorners, and if too my foot has hasted to deceit:

6 ६ (तो मैं धर्म के तराजू में तौला जाऊँ, ताकि परमेश्वर मेरी खराई को जान ले)।

(for I am weighed in a just balance, and the Lord knows my innocence: )

7 ७ यदि मेरे पग मार्ग से बहक गए हों, और मेरा मन मेरी आँखों की देखी चाल चला हो, या मेरे हाथों में कुछ कलंक लगा हो;

if my foot has turned aside out of the way, or if mine heart has followed mine eye, and if too I have touched gifts with my hands;

8 ८ तो मैं बीज बोऊँ, परन्तु दूसरा खाए; वरन् मेरे खेत की उपज उखाड़ डाली जाए।

then let me sow, and let others eat; and let me be uprooted on the earth.

9 ९ “यदि मेरा हृदय किसी स्त्री पर मोहित हो गया है, और मैं अपने पड़ोसी के द्वार पर घात में बैठा हूँ;

If my heart has gone forth after another man's wife, and if I laid wait at her doors;

10 १० तो मेरी स्त्री दूसरे के लिये पीसे, और पराए पुरुष उसको भ्रष्ट करें।

then let my wife also please another, and let my children be brought low.

11 ११ क्योंकि वह तो महापाप होता; और न्यायियों से दण्ड पाने के योग्य अधर्म का काम होता;

For the rage of anger is not to be controlled, [in the case] of defiling [another] man's wife.

12 १२ क्योंकि वह ऐसी आग है जो जलाकर भस्म कर देती है, और वह मेरी सारी उपज को जड़ से नाश कर देती है।

For it is a fire burning on every side, and whoever it attacks, it utterly destroys.

13 १३ “जब मेरे दास व दासी ने मुझसे झगड़ा किया, तब यदि मैंने उनका हक़ मार दिया हो;

And if too I despised the judgment of my servant or [my] handmaid, when they pleaded with me;

14 १४ तो जब परमेश्वर उठ खड़ा होगा, तब मैं क्या करूँगा? और जब वह आएगा तब मैं क्या उत्तर दूँगा?

what then shall I do if the Lord should try me? and if also he should at all visit me, can I make an answer?

15 १५ क्या वह उसका बनानेवाला नहीं जिसने मुझे गर्भ में बनाया? क्या एक ही ने हम दोनों की सूरत गर्भ में न रची थी?

Were not they too formed as I also was formed in the womb? yes, we were formed in the same womb.

16 १६ “यदि मैंने कंगालों की इच्छा पूरी न की हो, या मेरे कारण विधवा की आँखें कभी निराश हुई हों,

But the helpless missed not whatever need they had, and I did not cause the eye of the widow to fail.

17 १७ या मैंने अपना टुकड़ा अकेला खाया हो, और उसमें से अनाथ न खाने पाए हों,

And if too I ate my morsel alone, and did not impart [of it] to the orphan;

18 १८ (परन्तु वह मेरे लड़कपन ही से मेरे साथ इस प्रकार पला जिस प्रकार पिता के साथ, और मैं जन्म ही से विधवा को पालता आया हूँ);

(for I nourished [them] as a father from my youth and guided [them] from my mother's womb.)

19 १९ यदि मैंने किसी को वस्त्रहीन मरते हुए देखा, या किसी दरिद्र को जिसके पास ओढ़ने को न था

And if too I overlooked the naked as he was perishing, and did not clothe him;

20 २० और उसको अपनी भेड़ों की ऊन के कपड़े न दिए हों, और उसने गर्म होकर मुझे आशीर्वाद न दिया हो;

and if the poor did not bless me, and their shoulders were [not] warmed with the fleece of my lambs;

21 २१ या यदि मैंने फाटक में अपने सहायक देखकर अनाथों के मारने को अपना हाथ उठाया हो,

if I lifted my hand against an orphan, trusting that my strength was far superior [to his]:

22 २२ तो मेरी बाँह कंधे से उखड़कर गिर पड़े, और मेरी भुजा की हड्डी टूट जाए।

let them my shoulder start from the blade-bone, and my arm be crushed off from the elbow.

23 २३ क्योंकि परमेश्वर के प्रताप के कारण मैं ऐसा नहीं कर सकता था, क्योंकि उसकी ओर की विपत्ति के कारण मैं भयभीत होकर थरथराता था।

For the fear of the Lord constrained me, and I can’t bear up by reason of his burden.

24 २४ “यदि मैंने सोने का भरोसा किया होता, या कुन्दन को अपना आसरा कहा होता,

If I made gold my treasure, and if too I trusted the precious stone;

25 २५ या अपने बहुत से धन या अपनी बड़ी कमाई के कारण आनन्द किया होता,

and if too I rejoiced when my wealth was abundant, and if too I laid my hand on innumerable [treasures]:

26 २६ या सूर्य को चमकते या चन्द्रमा को महाशोभा से चलते हुए देखकर

(do we not see the shining sun eclipsed, and the moon waning? for they have not [power to continue]: )

27 २७ मैं मन ही मन मोहित हो गया होता, और अपने मुँह से अपना हाथ चूम लिया होता;

and if my heart was secretly deceived, and if I have laid my hand upon my mouth and kissed it:

28 २८ तो यह भी न्यायियों से दण्ड पाने के योग्य अधर्म का काम होता; क्योंकि ऐसा करके मैंने सर्वश्रेष्ठ परमेश्वर का इन्कार किया होता।

let this also then be reckoned to me as the greatest iniquity: for I [should] have lied against the Lord Most High.

29 २९ “यदि मैं अपने बैरी के नाश से आनन्दित होता, या जब उस पर विपत्ति पड़ी तब उस पर हँसा होता;

And if too I was glad at the fall of mine enemies, and mine heart said, Aha!

30 ३० (परन्तु मैंने न तो उसको श्राप देते हुए, और न उसके प्राणदण्ड की प्रार्थना करते हुए अपने मुँह से पाप किया है);

let then mine ear hear my curse, and let me be a byword among my people in my affliction.

31 ३१ यदि मेरे डेरे के रहनेवालों ने यह न कहा होता, ‘ऐसा कोई कहाँ मिलेगा, जो इसके यहाँ का माँस खाकर तृप्त न हुआ हो?’

And if too my handmaids have often said, Oh that we might be satisfied with his flesh; (whereas I was very kind:

32 ३२ (परदेशी को सड़क पर टिकना न पड़ता था; मैं बटोही के लिये अपना द्वार खुला रखता था);

for the stranger did not lodge without, and my door was opened to every one that came: )

33 ३३ यदि मैंने आदम के समान अपना अपराध छिपाकर अपने अधर्म को ढाँप लिया हो,

or if too having sinned unintentionally, I hid my sin;

34 ३४ इस कारण कि मैं बड़ी भीड़ से भय खाता था, या कुलीनों से तुच्छ किए जाने से डर गया यहाँ तक कि मैं द्वार से बाहर न निकला-

(for I did not stand in awe of a great multitude, so as not to declare boldly before them: ) and if too I permitted a poor man to go out of my door with an empty bosom:

35 ३५ भला होता कि मेरा कोई सुननेवाला होता! सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर अभी मेरा न्याय चुकाए! देखो, मेरा दस्तखत यही है। भला होता कि जो शिकायतनामा मेरे मुद्दई ने लिखा है वह मेरे पास होता!

(Oh that I had a hearer, ) and if I had not feared the hand of the Lord; and [as to] the written charge which I had against any one,

36 ३६ निश्चय मैं उसको अपने कंधे पर उठाए फिरता; और सुन्दर पगड़ी जानकर अपने सिर में बाँधे रहता।

I would place [it] as a chaplet on my shoulders, and read it.

37 ३७ मैं उसको अपने पग-पग का हिसाब देता; मैं उसके निकट प्रधान के समान निडर जाता।

And if I did not read it and return it, having taken nothing from the debtor:

38 ३८ “यदि मेरी भूमि मेरे विरुद्ध दुहाई देती हो, और उसकी रेघारियाँ मिलकर रोती हों;

If at any time the land groaned against me, and if its furrows mourned together;

39 ३९ यदि मैंने अपनी भूमि की उपज बिना मजदूरी दिए खाई, या उसके मालिक का प्राण लिया हो;

and if I ate its strength alone without price, and if I too grieved the heart of the owner of the soil, by taking [anything] from [him]:

40 ४० तो गेहूँ के बदले झड़बेरी, और जौ के बदले जंगली घास उगें!” अय्यूब के वचन पूरे हुए हैं।

then let the nettle come up to me instead of wheat, and a bramble instead of barley. And Job ceased speaking.
