अय्यूब 15

1 १ तब तेमानी एलीपज ने कहा

Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and said,

2 २ “क्या बुद्धिमान को उचित है कि अज्ञानता के साथ उत्तर दे, या अपने अन्तःकरण को पूर्वी पवन से भरे?

Will a wise man give for answer a [mere] breath of wisdom? and does he fill up the pain of his belly,

3 ३ क्या वह निष्फल वचनों से, या व्यर्थ बातों से वाद-विवाद करे?

reasoning with improper sayings, and with words wherein is no profit?

4 ४ वरन् तू परमेश्वर का भय मानना छोड़ देता, और परमेश्वर की भक्ति करना औरों से भी छुड़ाता है।

Hast not thou moreover cast off fear, and accomplished such words before the Lord?

5 ५ तू अपने मुँह से अपना अधर्म प्रगट करता है, और धूर्त लोगों के बोलने की रीति पर बोलता है।

Thou art guilty by the words of thy mouth, neither hast thou discerned the words of the mighty.

6 ६ मैं तो नहीं परन्तु तेरा मुँह ही तुझे दोषी ठहराता है; और तेरे ही वचन तेरे विरुद्ध साक्षी देते हैं।

Let thine own mouth, and not me, reprove thee: and thy lips shall testify against thee.

7 ७ “क्या पहला मनुष्य तू ही उत्पन्न हुआ? क्या तेरी उत्पत्ति पहाड़ों से भी पहले हुई?

What! art thou the first man that was born? or wert thou established before the hills?

8 ८ क्या तू परमेश्वर की सभा में बैठा सुनता था? क्या बुद्धि का ठेका तू ही ने ले रखा है

Or hast thou heard the ordinance of the Lord? or has God used thee as [his] counsellor? and has wisdom come [only] to thee?

9 ९ तू ऐसा क्या जानता है जिसे हम नहीं जानते? तुझ में ऐसी कौन सी समझ है जो हम में नहीं?

For what knowest thou, that, we know not? or what understandest thou, which we do not also?

10 १० हम लोगों में तो पक्के बाल वाले और अति पुरनिये मनुष्य हैं, जो तेरे पिता से भी बहुत आयु के हैं।

Truly among us [are] both the old and very aged man, more advanced in days than thy father.

11 ११ परमेश्वर की शान्तिदायक बातें, और जो वचन तेरे लिये कोमल हैं, क्या ये तेरी दृष्टि में तुच्छ हैं?

Thou hast been scourged for [but] few of thy sins: thou hast spoken haughtily [and] extravagantly.

12 १२ तेरा मन क्यों तुझे खींच ले जाता है? और तू आँख से क्यों इशारे करता है?

What has thine heart dared? or what have thine eyes [aimed at],

13 १३ तू भी अपनी आत्मा परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध करता है, और अपने मुँह से व्यर्थ बातें निकलने देता है।

that thou hast vented [thy] rage before the Lord, and delivered such words from [thy] mouth?

14 १४ मनुष्य है क्या कि वह निष्कलंक हो? और जो स्त्री से उत्पन्न हुआ वह है क्या कि निर्दोष हो सके?

For who, being a mortal, [is such] that he shall be blameless? or, [who that is] born of a woman, that he should be just?

15 १५ देख, वह अपने पवित्रों पर भी विश्वास नहीं करता, और स्वर्ग भी उसकी दृष्टि में निर्मल नहीं है।

Forasmuch as he trusts not his saints; and the heaven is not pure before him.

16 १६ फिर मनुष्य अधिक घिनौना और भ्रष्ट है जो कुटिलता को पानी के समान पीता है।

Alas then, abominable and unclean is man, drinking unrighteousness as a draught.

17 १७ “मैं तुझे समझा दूँगा, इसलिए मेरी सुन ले, जो मैंने देखा है, उसी का वर्णन मैं करता हूँ।

But I will tell thee, hearken to me; I will tell thee now what I have seen;

18 १८ (वे ही बातें जो बुद्धिमानों ने अपने पुरखाओं से सुनकर बिना छिपाए बताया है।

things wise men say, and their fathers have not hidden.

19 १९ केवल उन्हीं को देश दिया गया था, और उनके मध्य में कोई विदेशी आता-जाता नहीं था।)

To them alone the earth was given, and no stranger came upon them.

20 २० दुष्ट जन जीवन भर पीड़ा से तड़पता है, और उपद्रवी के वर्षों की गिनती ठहराई हुई है।

All the life of the ungodly [is spent] in care, and the years granted to the oppressor are numbered.

21 २१ उसके कान में डरावना शब्द गूँजता रहता है, कुशल के समय भी नाश करनेवाला उस पर आ पड़ता है।

And his terror is in his ears: just when he seems to be at peace, his overthrow will come.

22 २२ उसे अंधियारे में से फिर निकलने की कुछ आशा नहीं होती, और तलवार उसकी घात में रहती है।

Let him not trust that he shall return from darkness, for he has been already made over to the power of the sword.

23 २३ वह रोटी के लिये मारा-मारा फिरता है, कि कहाँ मिलेगी? उसे निश्चय रहता है, कि अंधकार का दिन मेरे पास ही है।

And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind.

24 २४ संकट और दुर्घटना से उसको डर लगता रहता है, ऐसे राजा के समान जो युद्ध के लिये तैयार हो, वे उस पर प्रबल होते हैं।

Distress also and anguish shall come upon him: he shall fall as a captain in the first rank.

25 २५ क्योंकि उसने तो परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध हाथ बढ़ाया है, और सर्वशक्तिमान के विरुद्ध वह ताल ठोंकता है,

For he has lifted his hands against the Lord, and he has hardened his neck against the Almighty Lord.

26 २६ और सिर उठाकर और अपनी मोटी-मोटी ढालें दिखाता हुआ घमण्ड से उस पर धावा करता है;

And he has run against him with insolence, on the thickness of the back of his shield.

27 २७ इसलिए कि उसके मुँह पर चिकनाई छा गई है, और उसकी कमर में चर्बी जमी है।

For he has covered his face with his fat, and made layers of fat upon his thighs.

28 २८ और वह उजाड़े हुए नगरों में बस गया है, और जो घर रहने योग्य नहीं, और खण्डहर होने को छोड़े गए हैं, उनमें बस गया है।

And let him lodge in desolate cities, and enter into houses without inhabitant: and what they have prepared, others shall carry away.

29 २९ वह धनी न रहेगा, और न उसकी सम्पत्ति बनी रहेगी, और ऐसे लोगों के खेत की उपज भूमि की ओर न झुकने पाएगी।

Neither shall he at all grow rich, nor shall his substance remain: he shall not cast a shadow upon the earth.

30 ३० वह अंधियारे से कभी न निकलेगा, और उसकी डालियाँ आग की लपट से झुलस जाएँगी, और परमेश्वर के मुँह की श्वास से वह उड़ जाएगा।

Neither shall he in any wise escape the darkness: let the wind blast his blossom, and let his flower fall off.

31 ३१ वह अपने को धोखा देकर व्यर्थ बातों का भरोसा न करे, क्योंकि उसका प्रतिफल धोखा ही होगा।

Let him not think that he shall endure; for his end shall be vanity.

32 ३२ वह उसके नियत दिन से पहले पूरा हो जाएगा; उसकी डालियाँ हरी न रहेंगी।

His harvest shall perish before the time, and his branch shall not flourish.

33 ३३ दाख के समान उसके कच्चे फल झड़ जाएँगे, और उसके फूल जैतून के वृक्ष के समान गिरेंगे।

And let him be gathered as the unripe grape before the time, and let him fall as the blossom of the olive.

34 ३४ क्योंकि भक्तिहीन के परिवार से कुछ बन न पड़ेगा, और जो घूस लेते हैं, उनके तम्बू आग से जल जाएँगे।

For death is the witness of an ungodly man, and fire shall burn the houses of them that receive gifts.

35 ३५ उनको उपद्रव का गर्भ रहता, और वे अनर्थ को जन्म देते है और वे अपने अन्तःकरण में छल की बातें गढ़ते हैं।”

And he shall conceive sorrows, and his end shall be vanity, and his belly shall bear deceit.
