निर्गमन 1
Now these are the names of the sons of Israel [God prevails], who came into Egypt [Abode of slavery] (every man and his household came with Jacob [Supplanter]):
Reuben [See, a son!], Simeon [Hearing], Levi [United with], and Judah [Praised],
Issachar [Hire, Reward], Zebulun [Living together], and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south],
Dan [He judged] and Naphtali [My wrestling], Gad [Good fortune] and Asher [Happy].
5 ५ और यूसुफ तो मिस्र में पहले ही आ चुका था। याकूब के निज वंश में जो उत्पन्न हुए वे सब सत्तर प्राणी थे।
All the souls who came out of Jacob [Supplanter]’s body were seventy souls, and Joseph [May he add] was in Egypt [Abode of slavery] already.
Joseph [May he add] died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation.
7 ७ परन्तु इस्राएल की सन्तान फूलने-फलने लगी; और वे अत्यन्त सामर्थी बनते चले गए; और इतना अधिक बढ़ गए कि सारा देश उनसे भर गया।
The children of Israel [God prevails] were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
Now there arose a new king over Egypt [Abode of slavery], who didn’t know Joseph [May he add].
He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel [God prevails] are more and mightier than we.
10 १० इसलिए आओ, हम उनके साथ बुद्धिमानी से बर्ताव करें, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जब वे बहुत बढ़ जाएँ, और यदि युद्ध का समय आ पड़े, तो हमारे बैरियों से मिलकर हम से लड़ें और इस देश से निकल जाएँ।”
Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”
11 ११ इसलिए मिस्रियों ने उन पर बेगारी करानेवालों को नियुक्त किया कि वे उन पर भार डाल-डालकर उनको दुःख दिया करें; तब उन्होंने फ़िरौन के लिये पितोम और रामसेस नामक भण्डारवाले नगरों को बनाया।
Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.
12 १२ पर ज्यों-ज्यों वे उनको दुःख देते गए त्यों-त्यों वे बढ़ते और फैलते चले गए; इसलिए वे इस्राएलियों से अत्यन्त डर गए।
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the children of Israel [God prevails].
The Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery] ruthlessly made the children of Israel [God prevails] serve,
14 १४ और उनके जीवन को गारे, ईंट और खेती के भाँति-भाँति के काम की कठिन सेवा से दुःखी कर डाला; जिस किसी काम में वे उनसे सेवा करवाते थे उसमें वे कठोरता का व्यवहार करते थे।
and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
The king of Egypt [Abode of slavery] spoke to the Hebrew [Immigrant] midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,
16 १६ “जब तुम इब्री स्त्रियों को बच्चा उत्पन्न होने के समय प्रसव के पत्थरों पर बैठी देखो, तब यदि बेटा हो, तो उसे मार डालना; और बेटी हो, तो जीवित रहने देना।”
and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew [Immigrant] women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”
17 १७ परन्तु वे दाइयाँ परमेश्वर का भय मानती थीं, इसलिए मिस्र के राजा की आज्ञा न मानकर लड़कों को भी जीवित छोड़ देती थीं।
But the midwives feared God, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt [Abode of slavery] ordered them, but saved the baby boys alive.
18 १८ तब मिस्र के राजा ने उनको बुलवाकर पूछा, “तुम जो लड़कों को जीवित छोड़ देती हो, तो ऐसा क्यों करती हो?”
The king of Egypt [Abode of slavery] called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and have saved the boys alive?”
19 १९ दाइयों ने फ़िरौन को उतर दिया, “इब्री स्त्रियाँ मिस्री स्त्रियों के समान नहीं हैं; वे ऐसी फुर्तीली हैं कि दाइयों के पहुँचने से पहले ही उनको बच्चा उत्पन्न हो जाता है।”
The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew [Immigrant] women are not like the Egyptian [person from Abode of slavery] women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”
God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.
22 २२ तब फ़िरौन ने अपनी सारी प्रजा के लोगों को आज्ञा दी, “इब्रियों के जितने बेटे उत्पन्न हों उन सभी को तुम नील नदी में डाल देना, और सब बेटियों को जीवित रख छोड़ना।”
Pharaoh enjoined all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
