1 प्रशासकों के शासनकाल में सारे देश में एक अकाल पड़ा. यहूदिया के बेथलेहेम नगर का एक व्यक्ति अपनी पत्नी तथा पुत्रों के साथ मोआब देश में प्रवास करने के लिए चला गया.
It happened in the days when the judges ruled that there was a famine in the land, and a certain man of Bethlehem of Judah went to the country of Moab with his wife and his two sons.
2 इस व्यक्ति का नाम एलिमेलेख, उसकी पत्नी का नाम नावोमी, तथा उसके पुत्रों के नाम मह्लोन तथा किल्योन थे. ये यहूदाह के बेथलेहेम के इफ्ऱथ परिवार से थे.
The name of the man was Elimelek, and the name of his wife was Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion, who were Ephrathites of Bethlehem of Judah. They arrived at the country of Moab and lived there.
3 कुछ समय बाद एलिमेलेख की मृत्यु हो गई. अब नावोमी अपने पुत्रों के साथ अकेली रह गई.
Then Elimelek, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons.
4 उनके पुत्रों ने मोआब देश की ही युवतियों से विवाह कर लिया. एक का नाम था ओरपाह और दूसरी का रूथ. मोआब देश में उनके लगभग दस वर्ष रहने के बाद,
These sons took wives from the women of Moab; the name of one was Orpah, and the name of the other was Ruth. They lived there for about ten years.
5 मह्लोन तथा किल्योन की मृत्यु हो गई. अब नावोमी अपने दोनों पुत्रों तथा पति के बिना अकेली रह गई.
Then both Mahlon and Kilion died, leaving Naomi without her husband and without her two children.
6 यह पता पड़ने पर कि याहवेह ने अपनी प्रजा को भोजन देकर उनकी सुधि ली है, नावोमी ने अपनी दोनों बहुओं के साथ मोआब देश से यहूदिया को लौट जाने का विचार किया.
Then Naomi decided to leave Moab with her daughters-in-law and return to Judah because she had heard in the region of Moab that Yahweh had helped his people in need and had given them food.
7 तब जहां वह रह रही थी वह स्थान छोड़कर अपनी बहुओं के साथ यहूदिया के मार्ग पर चल पड़ीं.
So she left the place where she had been with her two daughters-in-law, and they walked down the road to return to the land of Judah.
8 मार्ग में नावोमी ने अपनी बहुओं से कहा, “तुम दोनों अपने-अपने मायके लौट जाओ. याहवेह तुम पर वैसे ही दयालु हों, जैसी तुम मृतकों तथा मुझ पर दयालु रही हो.
Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return, each of you, to your mother's house. May Yahweh show kindness toward you, as you have shown kindness toward the dead and toward me.
9 याहवेह की कृपादृष्टि में तुम्हें अपने-अपने होनेवाले पति के घर में सुख-शांति प्राप्त हो.” तब नावोमी ने उनको चूमा और वे फफक-फफक कर रोती रहीं.
May the Lord grant you that you find rest, each of you in the house of another husband.” Then she kissed them, and they raised their voices and cried.
10 उन्होंने नावोमी को उत्तर दिया, “नहीं, हम आपके साथ, आपके ही लोगों में जा रहेंगी.”
They said to her, “No! We will return with you to your people.”
11 किंतु नावोमी ने उनसे कहा, “लौट जाओ मेरी पुत्रियो, तुम भला क्यों मेरे साथ जाओगी? क्या अब भी मेरे गर्भ में पुत्र हैं, जो तुम्हारे पति बन सकें?
But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters! Why will you go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb for you, so that they may become your husbands?
12 लौट जाओ मेरी पुत्रियो, अपने घर लौट जाओ, क्योंकि मेरी आयु वह नहीं रही, कि मैं दोबारा विवाह कर सकूं. यदि मैं यह भी कहूं कि मुझे आशा है, यदि मैं आज रात विवाह कर गर्भधारण भी कर लूं,
Turn back, my daughters, go your own way, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said, 'I hope I get a husband tonight,' and then give birth to sons,
13 तो क्या तुम उनके युवा होने का इंतजार करोगी? तो क्या तुम तब तक विवाह न करोगी? नहीं, मेरी पुत्रियो, मेरे हृदय का दुःख बहुत ही गहरा है, क्योंकि स्वयं याहवेह मेरे विरुद्ध हो गए हैं!”
would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you choose not to marry a husband? No, my daughters! It is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that the hand of Yahweh has gone out against me.”
14 तब वे दोबारा फफक-फफक कर रोने लगीं; फिर ओरपाह ने अपनी सास को चूमा, और उनसे विदा हो गई, किंतु रूथ ने अपनी सास को न छोड़ा.
Then her daughters-in-law lifted up their voices and cried again. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law farewell, but Ruth held on to her.
15 नावोमी ने रूथ से कहा, “सुनो, तुम्हारी जेठानी तो अपने लोगों तथा अपने देवताओं के पास लौट गई है. तुम भी अपनी जेठानी के समान लौट जाओ.”
Naomi said, “Listen, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. Go back with your sister-in-law.”
16 किंतु रूथ ने उसे उत्तर दिया, “आप मुझे न तो लौट जाने के लिए मजबूर करें और न आपको छोड़ने के लिए, क्योंकि आप जहां भी जाएंगी, मैं आपके ही साथ जाऊंगी और जहां आप रहेंगी, मैं वहीं रहूंगी. आपके लोग मेरे लोग होंगे तथा आपके परमेश्वर मेरे परमेश्वर;
But Ruth said, “Do not make me go away from you, for where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.
17 जिस स्थान पर आप आखिरी सांस लें, मैं भी वहीं आखिरी सांस लूं, और वहीं मुझे भी मिट्टी दी जाए. अब यदि मृत्यु के अलावा मेरा आपसे अलग होने का कोई और कारण हो, तो याहवेह मुझे कठोर से कठोर दंड दें.”
Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh punish me, and even more, if anything but death ever separates us.”
18 जब नावोमी ने यह देखा कि रूथ उनके साथ जाने के लिए दृढ़ निश्चयी है, तब उन्होंने रूथ को मजबूर करने की और कोशिश न की.
When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped arguing with her.
19 तब वे आगे चलते-चलते बैथलेहम पहुंच गई. जब उन्होंने बेथलेहेम नगर में प्रवेश किया, उन्हें देख नगर में उत्तेजना की लहर दौड़ गई. अचंभे में स्त्रियां पूछने लगीं, “कहीं यह नावोमी तो नहीं?”
So the two traveled until they came to the town of Bethlehem. It happened that when they arrived in Bethlehem, the entire town was very excited about them. The women said, “Is this Naomi?”
20 “मत कहो मुझे नावोमी! मारा कहो मुझे, मारा! उसने उत्तर दिया, क्योंकि सर्वशक्तिमान ने मेरे जीवन को कड़वाहट से भर दिया है.
But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi. Call me Bitter, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
21 मैं यहां से तो भरी पूरी गई थी, किंतु याहवेह मुझे यहां खाली हाथ लौटा लाएं हैं. तब मुझे नावोमी क्यों पुकारा जाए? जब याहवेह ने ही मुझे यह दंड दिया है, तथा सर्वशक्तिमान द्वारा ही मुझ पर यह मुसीबत डाली गई है.”
I went out full, but Yahweh has brought me home again empty. So why do you call me Naomi, seeing Yahweh has condemned me, that the Almighty has afflicted me?”
22 इस प्रकार नावोमी मोआब देश से अपनी बहू रूथ के साथ, जो मोआब की रहनेवाली थी, लौट आई. बेथलेहेम नगर में यह जौ की कटाई का समय था.
So Naomi and Ruth the Moabite woman, her daughter-in-law, returned from the country of Moab. They came to Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.
