नीतिवचन 7
1 मेरे पुत्र, मेरे वचनों का पालन करते रहो और मेरे आदेशों को अपने हृदय में संचित करके रखना.
My son, keep my sayings, and, my commandments, treasure by thee;
2 मेरे आदेशों का पालन करना और जीवित रहना; मेरी शिक्षाएं वैसे ही सुरक्षित रखना, जैसे अपने नेत्र की पुतली को रखते हो.
Keep my commandments and live, and mine instruction, as the pupil of thine eye;
3 इन्हें अपनी उंगलियों में पहन लेना; इन्हें अपने हृदय-पटल पर उकेर लेना.
Bind them upon thy fingers, write them, on the tablet of thy heart;
4 ज्ञान से कहो, “तुम मेरी बहन हो,” समझ को “अपना रिश्तेदार घोषित करो,”
Say unto wisdom, My sister, thou! and, an acquaintance, call thou, understanding:
5 कि ये तुम्हें व्यभिचारिणी स्त्री से सुरक्षित रखें, तुम्हें पर-स्त्री की लुभानेवाली बातों में फंसने से रोक सकें.
That thou mayest be kept, from the woman that is a stranger, from the female unknown, who, with her speeches, doth flatter.
6 मैं खिड़की के पास खड़ा हुआ जाली में से बाहर देख रहा था.
For, in the window of my house, through my lattice, I looked out;
7 मुझे एक साधारण, सीधा-सादा युवक दिखाई दिया, इस युवक में समझदारी तो थी ही नहीं,
And saw among the simple ones, discerned among the youths, A young man lacking sense;
8 यह युवक उस मार्ग पर जा रहा था, जो इस स्त्री के घर की ओर जाता था, सड़क की छोर पर उसका घर था.
Passing through the street, near her corner, and, on the way to her house, he sauntered along;
9 यह संध्याकाल गोधूली की बेला थी, रात्रि के अंधकार का समय हो रहा था.
In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the midst of the night, and the gloom;
10 तब मैंने देखा कि एक स्त्री उससे मिलने निकल आई, उसकी वेशभूषा वेश्या के समान थी उसके हृदय से धूर्तता छलक रही थी.
And lo! a woman, came to meet him, attired as one unchaste, of a wily heart.
11 (वह अत्यंत भड़कीली और चंचल थी, वह अपने घर पर तो ठहरती ही न थी;
Boisterous, is she, and rebellious, In her house, abide not her feet;
12 वह कभी सड़क पर दिखती थी तो कभी नगर चौक में, वह प्रतीक्षा करती हुई किसी भी चौराहे पर देखी जा सकती थी.)
Now outside, now in the broadways, and, near every corner, she lieth in wait:
13 आगे बढ़ के उसने उस युवक को बाहों में लेकर चूम लिया और बड़ी ही निर्लज्जता से उससे कहने लगी:
So she caught him, and kissed him, and, embolding her face, she said to him:
14 “मुझे बलि अर्पित करनी ही थी और आज ही मैंने अपने मन्नत को पूर्ण कर लिया हैं.
Peace-offerings, are by me, to-day, have I paid my vows;
15 इसलिये मैं तुमसे मिलने आ सकी हूं; मैं कितनी उत्कण्ठापूर्वक तुम्हें खोज रही थी, देखो, अब तुम मुझे मिल गए हो!
For this cause, came I forth to meet thee, to seek diligently thy face, and I have found thee:
16 मैंने उत्कृष्ट चादरों से बिछौना सजाया है इन पर मिस्र देश की रंगीन कलाकृतियां हैं.
Coverlets, have I spread on my couch of pleasure, dark-hued stuffs, of the yarn of Egypt;
17 मैंने बिछौने को गन्धरस, अगरू और दालचीनी से सुगंधित किया है.
I have sprinkled my bed, with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon:
18 अब देर किस लिए, प्रेम क्रीड़ा के लिए हमारे पास प्रातःकाल तक समय है; हम परस्पर प्रेम के द्वारा एक दूसरे का समाधान करेंगे!
Come! let us take our fill of endearments, until morning, let us delight ourselves with caresses;
19 मेरे पति प्रवास पर हैं; बड़े लंबे समय का है उनका प्रवास.
For the husband is not in his house, he hath gone on a journey afar;
20 वह अपने साथ बड़ी धनराशि लेकर गए हैं वह तो पूर्णिमा पर ही लौटेंगे.”
A bag of silver, hath he taken in his hand, On the day of the full moon, will he enter his house.
21 इसी प्रकार के मधुर शब्द के द्वारा उसने अंततः उस युवक को फुसला ही लिया; उसके मधुर शब्द के समक्ष वह हार गया.
She turneth him aside, with her great persuasiveness, —with the flattery of her lips, she compelleth him:
22 तत्क्षण वह उसके साथ चला गया. यह वैसा ही दृश्य था जैसे वध के लिए ले जाया जा रहा बैल, अथवा जैसे कोई मूर्ख फंदे में फंस गया हो.
Going after her instantly, as an ox, to the slaughter, he entereth, and, as in fetters, unto the correction of a fool.
23 तब बाण उसके कलेजे को बेधता हुआ निकल जाता है, जैसे पक्षी जाल में जा उलझा हो. उसे तो यह बोध ही नहीं होता, कि यह उसके प्राण लेने के लिए किया जा रहा है.
Until an arrow cleaveth his liver, as a bird hasteth into a snare, and knoweth not, that, for his life, it is!
24 और अब, मेरे पुत्रो, ध्यान से सुनो; और मेरे मुख से निकले शब्दों के प्रति सावधान रहो.
Now, therefore, ye sons, hearken unto me, and attend, to the sayings of my mouth;
25 तुम्हारा हृदय कभी भी ऐसी स्त्री के मार्ग की ओर न फिरे, उसके आचार-व्यवहार देखकर बहक न जाना,
Let not thy heart, turn aside to her ways, Do not go astray, in her paths.
26 उसने ऐसे अनेक-अनेक व्यक्तियों को फंसाया है; और बड़ी संख्या है उसके द्वारा संहार किए गए शक्तिशाली व्यक्तियों की.
For, many, wounded, hath she caused to fall, —yea strong men, slain wholly by her:
