नीतिवचन 5
1 मेरे पुत्र, मेरे ज्ञान पर ध्यान देना, अपनी समझदारी के शब्दों पर कान लगाओ,
My son, attend to my wisdom. And bow thine ear to my understanding;
2 कि तुम्हारा विवेक और समझ स्थिर रहे और तुम्हारी बातों में ज्ञान सुरक्षित रहे.
That thou mayest keep discretion, And that thy lips may preserve knowledge!
3 क्योंकि व्यभिचारिणी की बातों से मानो मधु टपकता है, उसका वार्तालाप तेल से भी अधिक चिकना होता है;
Truly, the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 किंतु अंत में वह चिरायते सी कड़वी तथा दोधारी तलवार-सी तीखी-तीक्ष्ण होती है.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 उसका मार्ग सीधा मृत्यु तक पहुंचता है; उसके पैर अधोलोक के मार्ग पर आगे बढ़ते जाते हैं. (Sheol h7585)
Her feet go down to death; Her steps lay hold of the under-world. (Sheol h7585)
6 जीवन मार्ग की ओर उसका ध्यान ही नहीं जाता; उसके चालचलन का कोई लक्ष्य नहीं होता और यह वह स्वयं नहीं जानती.
That she may not ponder the way of life, Her paths waver when she heedeth it not.
7 और अब, मेरे पुत्रो, ध्यान से मेरी शिक्षा को सुनो; मेरे मुख से बोले शब्दों से कभी न मुड़ना.
Hear me now, therefore, O children! And turn not away from the words of my mouth!
8 तुम उससे दूर ही दूर रहना, उसके घर के द्वार के निकट भी न जाना,
Remove thy way far from her. And come not nigh the door of her house:
9 कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम अपना सम्मान किसी अन्य को सौंप बैठो और तुम्हारे जीवन के दिन किसी क्रूर के वश में हो जाएं,
Lest thou give thy bloom to others, And thy years to a cruel one;
10 कहीं अपरिचित व्यक्ति तुम्हारे बल का लाभ उठा लें और तुम्हारे परिश्रम की सारी कमाई परदेशी के घर में चली जाए.
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, And thine earnings be in the house of an alien;
11 और जीवन के संध्याकाल में तुम कराहते रहो, जब तुम्हारी देह और स्वास्थ्य क्षीण होता जाए.
And lest thou mourn in thy latter end. When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 और तब तुम यह विचार करके कहो, “क्यों मैं अनुशासन तोड़ता रहा! क्यों मैं ताड़ना से घृणा करता रहा!
And say, “How have I hated instruction! And how hath my heart despised reproof!
13 मैंने शिक्षकों के शिक्षा की अनसुनी की, मैंने शिक्षाओं पर ध्यान ही न दिया.
I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to my instructors;
14 आज मैं विनाश के कगार पर, सारी मण्डली के सामने, खड़ा हूं.”
I have well-nigh fallen into utter misery; In the midst of the congregation and the assembly.”
15 तुम अपने ही जलाशय से जल का पान करना, तुम्हारा अपना कुंआ तुम्हारा सोता हो.
Drink water out of thine own cistern. And running water out of thine own well:
16 क्या तुम्हारे सोते की जलधाराएं इधर-उधर बह जाएं, क्या ये जलधाराएं सार्वजनिक गलियों के लिए हैं?
So shall thy fountains overflow in the streets, In the wide streets, as streams of water;
17 इन्हें मात्र अपने लिए ही आरक्षित रखना, न कि तुम्हारे निकट आए अजनबी के लिए.
They shall belong to thee alone, And not to strangers with thee;
18 आशीषित बने रहें तुम्हारे सोते, युवावस्था से जो तुम्हारी पत्नी है, वही तुम्हारे आनंद का सोता हो.
And thy fountain shall be blessed, Yea, thou shalt have joy in the wife of thy youth.
19 वह हिरणी सी कमनीय और मृग सी आकर्षक है. उसी के स्तन सदैव ही तुम्हें उल्लास से परिपूर्ण करते रहें, उसका प्रेम ही तुम्हारा आकर्षण बन जाए.
A lovely hind, a graceful doe, Her breasts shall satisfy thee at all times, And thou shalt be always ravished with her love.
20 मेरे पुत्र, वह व्यभिचारिणी भली क्यों तुम्हारे आकर्षण का विषय बने? वह व्यभिचारिणी क्यों तुम्हारे सीने से लगे?
Why, then, my son, wilt thou be ravished with a wanton, And embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 पुरुष का चालचलन सदैव याहवेह की दृष्टि में रहता है, वही तुम्हारी चालों को देखते रहते हैं.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And he weigheth well all his paths.
22 दुष्ट के अपराध उन्हीं के लिए फंदा बन जाते हैं; बड़ा सशक्त होता है उसके पाप का बंधन.
His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked; Yea, he shall be held fast by the cords of his own sins.
23 उसकी मृत्यु का कारण होती है उसकी ही शिक्षा, उसकी अतिशय मूर्खता ही उसे भटका देती है.
He shall die for want of instruction; Yea, through the greatness of his folly he shall stagger.
