नीतिवचन 4
1 मेरे पुत्रो, अपने पिता की शिक्षा ध्यान से सुनो; इन पर विशेष ध्यान दो, कि तुम्हें समझ प्राप्त हो सके.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 क्योंकि मेरे द्वारा दिए जा रहे नीति-सिद्धांत उत्तम हैं, इन शिक्षाओं का कभी त्याग न करना.
For I give you a good gift; forsake ye not my law.
3 जब मैं स्वयं अपने पिता का पुत्र था, मैं सुकुमार था, माता के लिए लाखों में एक.
For I also was a son obedient to [my] father, and loved in the sight of [my] mother:
4 मेरे पिता ने मुझे शिक्षा देते हुए कहा था, “मेरी शिक्षा अपने हृदय में दृढतापूर्वक बैठा लो; मेरे आदेशों का पालन करते रहो, क्योंकि इन्हीं में तुम्हारा जीवन सुरक्षित है.
who spoke and instructed me, [saying], Let our speech be fixed in thine heart, keep [our] commandments, forget them not:
5 मेरे मुख से निकली शिक्षा से बुद्धिमत्ता प्राप्त करो, समझ प्राप्त करो; न इन्हें त्यागना, और न इनसे दूर जाओ.
and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.
6 यदि तुम इसका परित्याग न करो, तो यह तुम्हें सुरक्षित रखेगी; इसके प्रति तुम्हारा प्रेम ही तुम्हारी सुरक्षा होगी.
And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to thee: love it, and it shall keep thee.
7 सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता है बुद्धिमत्ता की उपलब्धि: बुद्धिमत्ता प्राप्त करो. यदि तुम्हें अपना सर्वस्व भी देना पड़े, समझ अवश्य प्राप्त कर लेना.
8 ज्ञान को अमूल्य संजो रखना, तब वह तुम्हें भी प्रतिष्ठित बनाएगा; तुम इसे आलिंगन करो तो यह तुम्हें सम्मानित करेगा.
Secure it, and it shall exalt thee: honour it, that it may embrace thee;
9 यह तुम्हारे मस्तक को एक भव्य आभूषण से सुशोभित करेगा; यह तुम्हें एक मनोहर मुकुट प्रदान करेगा.”
that it may give unto thy head a crown of graces, and may cover thee with a crown of delight.
10 मेरे पुत्र, मेरी शिक्षाएं सुनो और उन्हें अपना लो, कि तुम दीर्घायु हो जाओ.
Hear, [my] son, and receive my words; and the years of thy life shall be increased, that the resources of thy life may be many.
11 मैंने तुम्हें ज्ञान की नीतियों की शिक्षा दी है, मैंने सीधे मार्ग पर तुम्हारी अगुवाई की है.
For I teach thee the ways of wisdom; and I cause thee to go in right paths.
12 इस मार्ग पर चलते हुए तुम्हारे पैर बाधित नहीं होंगे; यदि तुम दौड़ोगे तब भी तुम्हारे पांव ठोकर न खाएंगे.
For when thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not be distressed.
13 इन शिक्षाओं पर अटल रहो; कभी इनका परित्याग न करो; ज्ञान तुम्हारा जीवन है, उसकी रक्षा करो.
Take hold of my instruction; let it not go, —but keep it for thyself for thy life.
14 दुष्टों के मार्ग पर पांव न रखना, दुर्जनों की राह पर पांव न रखना.
Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.
15 इससे दूर ही दूर रहना, उस मार्ग पर कभी न चलना; इससे मुड़कर आगे बढ़ जाना.
In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not thither; but turn from them, and pass away.
16 उन्हें बुराई किए बिना नींद ही नहीं आती; जब तक वे किसी का बुरा न कर लें, वे करवटें बदलते रह जाते हैं.
For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.
17 क्योंकि बुराई ही उन्हें आहार प्रदान करती है और हिंसा ही उनका पेय होती है.
For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with wine of transgression.
18 किंतु धर्मी का मार्ग भोर के प्रकाश समान है, जो दिन चढ़ते हुए उत्तरोत्तर प्रखर होती जाती है और मध्याह्न पर पहुंचकर पूर्ण तेज पर होती है.
But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.
19 पापी की जीवनशैली गहन अंधकार होती है; उन्हें यह ज्ञात ही नहीं हो पाता, कि उन्हें ठोकर किससे लगी है.
But the ways of the ungodly are dark; they know not how they stumble.
20 मेरे पुत्र, मेरी शिक्षाओं के विषय में सचेत रहना; मेरी बातों पर विशेष ध्यान देना.
[My] son, attend to my speech; and apply thine ear to my words:
21 ये तुम्हारी दृष्टि से ओझल न हों, उन्हें अपने हृदय में बनाए रखना.
that thy fountains may not fail thee; keep them in [thine] heart.
22 क्योंकि जिन्होंने इन्हें प्राप्त कर लिया है, ये उनका जीवन हैं, ये उनकी देह के लिए स्वास्थ्य हैं.
For they are life to those that find them, and health to all [their] flesh.
23 सबसे अधिक अपने हृदय की रक्षा करते रहना, क्योंकि जीवन के प्रवाह इसी से निकलते हैं.
Keep thine heart with the utmost care; for out of these are the issues of life.
24 कुटिल बातों से दूर रहना; वैसे ही छल-प्रपंच के वार्तालाप में न बैठना.
Remove from thee a froward mouth, and put far away from thee unjust lips.
25 तुम्हारी आंखें सीधे लक्ष्य को ही देखती रहें; तुम्हारी दृष्टि स्थिर रहे.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids assent [to] just [things].
26 इस पर विचार करो कि तुम्हारे पांव कहां पड़ रहे हैं तब तुम्हारे समस्त लेनदेन निरापद बने रहेंगे.
Make straight paths for thy feet, and order thy ways aright.
27 सन्मार्ग से न तो दायें मुड़ना न बाएं; बुराई के मार्ग पर पांव न रखना.
Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but turn away thy foot from an evil way.
