नीतिवचन 31
1 ये राजा लमूएल द्वारा प्रस्तुत नीति सूत्र हैं, जिनकी शिक्षा उन्हें उनकी माता द्वारा दी गई थी.
The words of Lemuel the king, —the strain which was taught him by his mother: —
2 सुन, मेरे पुत्र! सुन, मेरे ही गर्भ से जन्मे पुत्र! सुन, मेरी प्रार्थनाओं के प्रत्युत्तर पुत्र!
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? aye what, the son of my vows?
3 अपना पौरुष स्त्रियों पर व्यय न करना और न अपने संसाधन उन पर लुटाना, जिन्होंने राजाओं तक के अवपात में योग दिया है.
Do not give, to women, thy strength, nor thy ways, to them who ruin kings.
4 लमूएल, यह राजाओं के लिए कदापि उपयुक्त नहीं है, दाखमधु राजाओं के लिए सुसंगत नहीं है, शासकों के लिए मादक द्रव्यपान भला नहीं होता.
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor, for dignitaries, to desire strong drink,
5 ऐसा न हो कि वे पीकर कानून को भूल जाएं, और दीन दलितों से उनके अधिकार छीन लें.
Lest he drink, and forget that which is decreed, and alter the plea of any who are sorely oppressed.
6 मादक द्रव्य उन्हें दो, जो मरने पर हैं, दाखमधु उन्हें दो, जो घोर मन में उदास हैं!
Give strong drink, to him that is perishing, and wine, to such as are embittered in soul:
7 वे पिएं तथा अपनी निर्धनता को भूल जाएं और उन्हें उनकी दुर्दशा का स्मरण न आएं.
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and, his wearying toil, let him remember no more.
8 उनके पक्ष में खड़े होकर उनके लिए न्याय प्रस्तुत करो, जो अपना पक्ष प्रस्तुत करने में असमर्थ हैं.
Open thy mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all the children of the departed.
9 निडरतापूर्वक न्याय प्रस्तुत करो और बिना पक्षपात न्याय दो; निर्धनों और निर्धनों के अधिकारों की रक्षा करो.
Open thy mouth—judge righteously, —and administer justice for the poor and the needy.
10 किसे उपलब्ध होती है उत्कृष्ट, गुणसंपन्न पत्नी? उसका मूल्य रत्नों से कहीं अधिक बढ़कर है.
A virtuous woman, who can find? for, far beyond corals, is her worth.
11 उसका पति उस पर पूर्ण भरोसा करता है और उसके कारण उसके पति का मूल्य अपरिमित होता है.
The heart of her husband, trusteth her, and, gain, he shall not lack:
12 वह आजीवन अपने पति का हित ही करती है, बुरा कभी नहीं.
She doeth him good and not evil, all the days of her life:
13 वह खोज कर ऊन और पटसन ले आती है और हस्तकार्य में उसकी गहरी रुचि है.
She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands:
14 व्यापारिक जलयानों के समान, वह दूर-दूर जाकर भोज्य वस्तुओं का प्रबंध करती है.
She is like the ships of the merchant, from afar, she bringeth in her food;
15 रात्रि समाप्त भी नहीं होती, कि वह उठ जाती है; और अपने परिवार के लिए भोजन का प्रबंध करती तथा अपनी परिचारिकाओं को उनके काम संबंधी निर्देश देती है.
And she riseth, while yet it is night, and giveth food to her household, and a task to her maidens:
16 वह जाकर किसी भूखण्ड को परखती है और उसे मोल ले लेती है; वह अपने अर्जित धन से द्राक्षावाटिका का रोपण करती है.
She considereth a field, and procureth it, Out of the fruit of her hands, she planteth a vineyard:
17 वह कमर कसकर तत्परतापूर्वक कार्य में जुट जाती है; और उसकी बाहें सशक्त रहती हैं.
She girdeth, with strength her loins, and putteth vigour into her arms:
18 उसे यह बोध रहता है कि उसका लाभांश ऊंचा रहे, रात्रि में भी उसकी समृद्धि का दीप बुझने नहीं पाता.
She tasteth, whether, good, be her merchandise, and her lamp, goeth not out by night:
19 वह चरखे पर कार्य करने के लिए बैठती है और उसके हाथ तकली पर चलने लगते हैं.
Her hands, she putteth forth to the distaff, and, her palms, lay hold of the spindle:
20 उसके हाथ निर्धनों की ओर बढ़ते हैं और वह निर्धनों की सहायता करती है.
Her palm, she spreadeth out to the oppressed, and, her hands, she extendeth to the needy:
21 शीतकाल का आगमन उसके परिवार के लिए चिंता का विषय नहीं होता; क्योंकि उसके समस्त परिवार के लिए पर्याप्त ऊनी वस्त्र तैयार रहते हैं.
She feareth not, for her household, because of the snow, for, all her household, are clothed with crimson:
22 वह अपने लिए बाह्य ऊनी वस्त्र भी तैयार रखती है; उसके सभी वस्त्र उत्कृष्ट तथा भव्य ही होते हैं.
Coverlets, she maketh for herself, Of white linen and of purple, is her clothing:
23 जब राज्य परिषद का सत्र होता है, तब प्रमुखों में उसका पति अत्यंत प्रतिष्ठित माना जाता है.
Known in the gates, is her husband, when he sitteth, with the elders of the land:
24 वह पटसन के वस्त्र बुनकर उनका विक्रय कर देती है, तथा व्यापारियों को दुपट्टे बेचती है.
Fine linen wraps, she maketh and selleth, and, girdles, doth she deliver to the trader:
25 वह शक्ति और सम्मान धारण किए हुए है; भविष्य की आशा में उसका उल्लास है.
Strength and dignity, are her clothing, and she laugheth at the time to come:
26 उसके मुख से विद्वत्तापूर्ण वचन ही बोले जाते हैं, उसके वचन कृपा-प्रेरित होते हैं.
Her mouth, she openeth with wisdom, and, the instruction of kindness, is on her tongue:
27 वह अपने परिवार की गतिविधि पर नियंत्रण रखती है और आलस्य का भोजन उसकी चर्या में है ही नहीं.
She looketh well to the goings of her household, and, the bread of idleness, will she not eat.
28 प्रातःकाल उठकर उसके बालक उसकी प्रशंसा करते हैं; उसका पति इन शब्दों में उसकी प्रशंसा करते नहीं थकता:
Her children rise up, and call her happy! her husband, and he praiseth her: —
29 “अनेक स्त्रियों ने उत्कृष्ट कार्य किए हैं, किंतु तुम उन सबसे उत्कृष्ट हो.”
Many daughters, have done virtuously, but, thou, excellest them all!
30 आकर्षण एक झूठ है और सौंदर्य द्रुत गति से उड़ जाता है; किंतु जिस स्त्री में याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा विद्यमान है, वह प्रशंसनीय रहेगी.
Deceitful is loveliness and vain is beauty, The woman that revereth Yahweh, she, shall be praised:
31 उसके परिश्रम का श्रेय उसे दिया जाए, और उसके कार्य नगर में घोषित किए जाएं.
Give her of the fruit of her own hands, and let her own works, praise her in the gates.
