नीतिवचन 14
1 बुद्धिमान स्त्री एक सशक्त परिवार का निर्माण करती है, किंतु मूर्ख अपने ही हाथों से उसे नष्ट कर देती है.
Every wise woman has built her house, And the foolish breaks it down with her hands.
2 जिस किसी के जीवन में याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा है, उसके जीवन में सच्चाई है; परंतु वह जो प्रभु को तुच्छ समझता है, उसका आचरण छल से भरा हुआ है!
Whoever is walking in his uprightness is fearing YHWH, And the perverted is despising Him [in] his ways.
3 मूर्ख के मुख से निकले शब्द ही उसके दंड के कारक बन जाते हैं, किंतु बुद्धिमानों के होंठों से निकले शब्द उनकी रक्षा करते हैं.
A rod of pride [is] in the mouth of a fool, And the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 जहां बैल ही नहीं हैं, वहां गौशाला स्वच्छ रहती है, किंतु बैलों की शक्ति से ही धन की भरपूरी निहित है.
Without oxen a stall [is] clean, And great [is] the increase by the power of the ox.
5 विश्वासयोग्य साक्षी छल नहीं करता, किंतु झूठे साक्षी के मुख से झूठ ही झूठ बाहर आता है.
A faithful witness does not lie, And a false witness breathes out lies.
6 छिछोरा व्यक्ति ज्ञान की खोज कर सकता है, किंतु उसे प्राप्त नहीं कर पाता, हां, जिसमें समझ होती है, उसे ज्ञान की उपलब्धि सरलतापूर्वक हो जाती है.
A scorner has sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge [is] easy to the intelligent.
7 मूर्ख की संगति से दूर ही रहना, अन्यथा ज्ञान की बात तुम्हारी समझ से परे ही रहेगी.
Go from before a foolish man, Or you have not known the lips of knowledge.
8 विवेकी की बुद्धिमता इसी में होती है, कि वह उपयुक्त मार्ग की विवेचना कर लेता है, किंतु मूर्खों की मूर्खता धोखा है.
The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way, And the folly of fools [is] deceit.
9 दोष बलि मूर्खों के लिए ठट्ठा का विषय होता है, किंतु खरे के मध्य होता है अनुग्रह.
Fools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright—a pleasing thing.
10 मनुष्य को स्वयं अपने मन की पीडा का बोध रहता है और अज्ञात व्यक्ति हृदय के आनंद में सम्मिलित नहीं होता.
The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not interfere with its joy.
11 दुष्ट के घर-परिवार का नष्ट होना निश्चित है, किंतु धर्मी का डेरा भरा-पूरा रहता है.
The house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourishes.
12 एक ऐसा भी मार्ग है, जो उपयुक्त जान पड़ता है, किंतु इसका अंत है मृत्यु-द्वार.
There is a way—right before a man, And its latter end [are] ways of death.
13 हंसता हुआ व्यक्ति भी अपने हृदय में वेदना छुपाए रख सकता है, और हर्ष के बाद शोक भी हो सकता है.
Even in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy [is] affliction.
14 विश्वासहीन व्यक्ति अपनी ही नीतियों का परिणाम भोगेगा, किंतु धर्मी अपनी नीतियों का.
The backslider in heart is filled from his ways, And a good man—from his fruits.
15 मूर्ख जो कुछ सुनता है उस पर विश्वास करता जाता है, किंतु विवेकी व्यक्ति सोच-विचार कर पैर उठाता है.
The simple gives credence to everything, And the prudent attends to his step.
16 बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति वह है, जो याहवेह का भय मानता, और बुरी जीवनशैली से दूर ही दूर रहता है; किंतु निर्बुद्धि अहंकारी और असावधान होता है.
The wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.
17 वह, जो शीघ्र क्रोधी हो जाता है, मूर्ख है, तथा वह जो बुराई की युक्ति करता है, घृणा का पात्र होता है.
Whoever is short of temper does folly, And a man of wicked schemes is hated.
18 निर्बुद्धियों को प्रतिफल में मूर्खता ही प्राप्त होती है, किंतु बुद्धिमान मुकुट से सुशोभित किए जाते हैं.
The simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned [with] knowledge.
19 अंततः बुराई को भलाई के समक्ष झुकना ही पड़ता है, तथा दुष्टों को भले लोगों के द्वार के समक्ष.
The evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 पड़ोसियों के लिए भी निर्धन घृणा का पात्र हो जाता है, किंतु अनेक हैं, जो धनाढ्य के मित्र हो जाते हैं.
The poor is hated even of his neighbor, And those loving the rich [are] many.
21 वह, जो अपने पड़ोसी से घृणा करता है, पाप करता है, किंतु वह धन्य होता है, जो निर्धनों के प्रति उदार एवं कृपालु होता है.
Whoever is despising his neighbor sins, Whoever is favoring the humble, O his blessedness.
22 क्या वे मार्ग से भटक नहीं गये, जिनकी अभिलाषा ही दुष्कर्म की होती है? वे, जो भलाई का यत्न करते रहते हैं. उन्हें सच्चाई तथा निर्जर प्रेम प्राप्त होता है.
Do they who are devising evil not err? And kindness and truth [are] to those devising good,
23 श्रम किसी भी प्रकार का हो, लाभांश अवश्य प्राप्त होता है, किंतु मात्र बातें करते रहने का परिणाम होता है गरीबी.
In all labor there is advantage, And a thing of the lips [is] only to want.
24 बुद्धिमान समृद्धि से सुशोभित होते हैं, किंतु मूर्खों की मूर्खता और अधिक गरीबी उत्पन्न करती है.
The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools [is] folly.
25 सच्चा साक्षी अनेकों के जीवन को सुरक्षित रखता है, किंतु झूठा गवाह धोखेबाज है.
A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breathes out lies.
26 जिसके हृदय में याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा होती है, उसे दृढ़ गढ़ प्राप्त हो जाता है, उसकी संतान सदैव सुरक्षित रहेगी.
Strong confidence [is] in the fear of YHWH, And there is a refuge to His sons.
27 याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा ही जीवन का सोता है, उससे मानव मृत्यु के द्वारा बिछाए गए जाल से बचता जाएगा.
The fear of YHWH [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
28 प्रजा की विशाल जनसंख्या राजा के लिए गौरव का विषय होती है, किंतु प्रजा के अभाव में प्रशासक नगण्य रह जाता है.
The honor of a king [is] in the multitude of a people, And the ruin of a prince in lack of people.
29 वह बुद्धिमान ही होता है, जिसका अपने क्रोधावेग पर नियंत्रण होता है, किंतु जिसे शीघ्र ही क्रोध आ जाता है, वह मूर्खता की वृद्धि करता है.
Whoever is slow to anger [is] of great understanding, And whoever is short in temper is exalting folly.
30 शांत हृदय देह के लिए संजीवनी सिद्ध होता है, किंतु ईर्ष्या अस्थियों में लगे घुन-समान है.
A healed heart [is] life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones [is] envy.
31 वह, जो निर्धन को उत्पीड़ित करता है, उसके सृजनहार को अपमानित करता है, किंतु वह, जो निर्धन के प्रति उदारता प्रदर्शित करता है, उसके सृजनहार को सम्मानित करता है.
An oppressor of the poor reproaches his Maker, And whoever is honoring Him Is favoring the needy.
32 दुष्ट के विनाश का कारण उसी के कुकृत्य होते हैं, किंतु धर्मी अपनी मृत्यु के अवसर पर निराश्रित नहीं छूट जाता.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness, And the righteous [is] trustful in his death.
33 बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति के हृदय में ज्ञान का निवास होता है, किंतु मूर्खों के हृदय में ज्ञान गुनहगार अवस्था में रख दिया जाता है.
Wisdom rests in the heart of the intelligent. And it is known in the midst of fools.
34 धार्मिकता ही राष्ट्र को उन्नत बनाती है, किंतु किसी भी समाज के लिए पाप निंदनीय ही होता है.
Righteousness exalts a nation, And the righteousness of peoples [is] a sin-offering.
35 चतुर सेवक राजा का प्रिय पात्र होता है, किंतु वह सेवक, जो लज्जास्पद काम करता है, राजा का कोप को भड़काता है.
The favor of a king [is] to a wise servant, And one causing shame is an object of his wrath!
