नहेमायाह 4

1 जब सनबल्लत को यह मालूम हुआ कि हम शहरपनाह को दोबारा से बना रहे हैं, वह गुस्से से भर गया और हम यहूदियों का मज़ाक उड़ाने लगा.

Now, Sanballat, hearing that we were building the wall, was very angry, and in his wrath made sport of the Jews.

2 उसने अपने साथ में काम करनेवालों और शमरिया के सेनाध्यक्षों के सामने कहा, “यह निर्बल यहूदी कर क्या रहे हैं? क्या ये लोग अपने लिए इसको दोबारा बना लेंगे? तब क्या वे बलि चढ़ा सकेंगे? क्या वे यह काम एक ही दिन में पूरा कर सकेंगे? क्या वे पत्थर के टुकड़ों के ढेर से भवन बनाने के लायक पत्थर निकाल सकेंगे, जबकि ये आग में जल चुके हैं?”

And in the hearing of his countrymen and the army of Samaria he said, What are these feeble Jews doing? will they make themselves strong? will they make offerings? will they get the work done in a day? will they make the stones which have been burned come again out of the dust?

3 अम्मोनी तोबियाह जो उसके पास ही खड़ा था, कहने लगा, “अरे, वे लोग जो बना रहे हैं, वह ऐसा है, कि अगर एक लोमड़ी ही उस पर कूद पड़े तो उनकी बनाई हुई पत्थर की शहरपनाह ढह जाएगी!”

Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Such is their building that if a fox goes up it, their stone wall will be broken down.

4 हमारे परमेश्वर, सुन लीजिए कि हमारा कैसा अपमान हो रहा है! उनके द्वारा की जा रही इस निंदा को उन्हीं पर लौटा दीजिए और उन्हें बंधुआई के देश में लूट का सामान बना दीजिए.

Give ear, O our God, for we are looked down on: let their words of shame be turned back on themselves, and let them be given up to wasting in a land where they are prisoners:

5 उनके पाप को क्षमा न कीजिए. आपके सामने से उनका पाप मिटाया न जाए क्योंकि उन्होंने शहरपनाह बनाने वालों का मनोबल खत्म कर दिया है.

Let not their wrongdoing be covered or their sin washed away from before you: for they have made you angry before the builders.

6 इस तरह हमने शहरपनाह को बनाया और सारी शहरपनाह उसकी आधी ऊंचाई तक पूरी हो गई, क्योंकि लोग इस काम के प्रति दृढ़ थे.

So we went on building the wall; and all the wall was joined together half-way up: for the people were working hard.

7 इस मौके पर जब सनबल्लत, तोबियाह, अरबियों, अम्मोनियों, और अशदोदियों ने यह सुना, कि येरूशलेम की शहरपनाह का मरम्मत का काम तेजी पर है और सभी नाके अब बंद किए जाने लगे हैं, वे बहुत ही गुस्सा हो गए.

But when it came to the ears of Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabians and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites, that the building of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and the broken places were being made good, they were full of wrath;

8 उन सभी ने मिलकर येरूशलेम पर हमला करने का षड़्‍यंत्र रचा, कि इसके द्वारा वहां गड़बड़ी डाली जा सके.

And they made designs, all of them together, to come and make an attack on Jerusalem, causing trouble there.

9 इसलिये हमने अपने परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना की और उनकी योजनाओं का ध्यान रखते हुए वहां दिन और रात के लिए पहरेदार ठहरा दिए.

But we made our prayer to God, and had men on watch against them day and night because of them.

10 सो यहूदिया में लोग इस तरह कहने लगे: “बोझ उठाने वालों का बल घट गया है, फिर भी मलबा बहुत है; हम खुद ही शहरपनाह बनाने के लायक नहीं रहे हैं.”

And Judah said, The strength of the workmen is giving way, and there is much waste material; it is impossible for us to put up the wall.

11 हमारे शत्रुओं ने आपस में विचार-विमर्श किया, “हम ऐसा करें: हमारे उनके बीच में पहुंचने तक उन्हें यह पता ही न चलने पाए, तब हम उनको मार के इस काम को खत्म कर देंगे.”

And those who were against us said, Without their knowledge and without their seeing us, we will come among them and put them to death, causing the work to come to a stop.

12 उनके आस-पास के यहूदियों ने दस बार आकर हमें इस षड़्‍यंत्र की सूचना दी, “वे लोग हर एक दिशा से आकर हम पर हमला करेंगे.”

And it came about that when the Jews who were living near them came, they said to us ten times, From all directions they are coming against us.

13 इसलिये मैंने शहरपनाह के पीछे उन जगहों पर पहरेदार ठहरा दिए, जहां-जहां ऊंचाई कम थी जो जगह अब तक खुली पड़ी थी. मैंने परिवारों को उनकी तलवारों, भालों और धनुषों के साथ बैठा दिया.

So in the lowest part of the space at the back of the walls, in the open places, I put the people by families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

14 जब मुझे उनके मन में आ रहे डर का अहसास हुआ, मैंने रईसों, अधिकारियों और बाकी लोगों को यह कहा, “कोई ज़रूरत नहीं उनसे डरने की! आप याद रखिए: सिर्फ प्रभु को, जो महान और प्रतापी है. अपने भाइयों, अपने पुत्रों, अपनी पुत्रियों, अपनी पत्नियों और अपने घरों की भलाई को ध्यान में रखकर युद्ध के लिए तैयार हो जाइए.”

And after looking, I got up and said to the great ones and to the chiefs and to the rest of the people, Have no fear of them: keep in mind the Lord who is great and greatly to be feared, and take up arms for your brothers, your sons, and your daughters, your wives and your houses.

15 हमारे शत्रुओं को यह मालूम हो गया कि हमें उनके षड़्‍यंत्र का पता चल चुका है और परमेश्वर ने उनकी योजना विफल कर दी है. हम सभी शहरपनाह के अपने-अपने काम में दोबारा लग गए.

And when it came to the ears of those who were against us, that we had knowledge of their designs and that God had made their purpose come to nothing, we all went back to the wall, everyone to his work

16 उस दिन के बाद मेरे आधे सेवक शहरपनाह के काम करते थे और आधे कवच पहनकर बर्छी, धनुष और ढाल लिए हुए रहते थे. यहूदाह के सारे घराने को हाकिमों का समर्थन मिला हुआ था.

And from that time, half of my servants were doing their part of the work, and half kept the spears and body-covers and the bows and the metal war-dresses; and the chiefs were at the back of the men of Judah.

17 वे सभी, जो शहरपनाह को बनाने में लगे थे और जो सामान उठाने में लगे थे, एक हाथ से काम करते थे और दूसरे में हथियार थामे रहते थे.

Those who were building the wall and those who were moving material did their part, everyone working with one hand, with his spear in the other;

18 काम करते हुए भी हर एक मिस्त्री अपनी जांघ पर तलवार लटकाए हुए रहता था और जिस व्यक्ति की जवाबदारी थी नरसिंगा फूंकना, वह लगातार मेरे पास ही खड़ा रहता था.

Every builder was working with his sword at his side. And by my side was a man for sounding the horn.

19 रईसों, अधिकारियों और दूसरे लोगों को मैंने कहा, “यह काम बड़ा और फैला हुआ है और हम सभी इस शहरपनाह पर एक दूसरे से अलग हो चुके हैं.

And I said to the great ones and the chiefs and the rest of the people, The work is great and widely spaced and we are far away from one another on the wall:

20 इसलिये जब कभी तुम्हें नरसिंगे की आवाज सुनाई दे, तुम उसी दिशा में आकर हमारे पास इकट्ठा हो जाना. हमारे परमेश्वर हमारे लिए युद्ध करेंगे.”

Wherever you may be when the horn is sounded, come here to us; our God will be fighting for us.

21 इस प्रकार हम इस काम में लग गए-आधे लोग सुबह से लेकर तारों के दिखने तक बर्छी लिए हुए खड़े रहते थे.

So we went on with the work: and half of them had spears in their hands from the dawn of the morning till the stars were seen.

22 उस समय मैंने लोगों से यह भी कहा, “हर एक व्यक्ति रात के समय अपने-अपने सेवक के साथ येरूशलेम में ही रहे, कि रात में तो वे पहरेदार हो जाएं और दिन के समय काम करने लगें.”

And at the same time I said to the people, Let everyone with his servant come inside Jerusalem for the night, so that at night they may keep watch for us, and go on working by day.

23 न तो मेरे लिए, न मेरे संबंधियों के लिए, न मेरे सेवकों के लिए और न उन पहरेदारों के लिए, जो मेरे साथ साथ बने रहते थे, अपने कपड़े बदलने का मौका मिल पाता था; जब हम जलाशयों के पास जाते थे, तब भी हथियारों को आपने साथ रखते थे.

So not one of us, I or my brothers or my servants or the watchmen who were with me, took off his clothing, everyone went armed to the water.
