नहेमायाह 13

1 उस दिन सभा के लिए मोशेह की पुस्तक ऊंची आवाज में पढ़ी गई. इस पुस्तक में यह लिखा हुआ पाया गया कि परमेश्वर की सभा में न तो किसी अम्मोनी के और न किसी मोआबी के प्रवेश की आज्ञा है,

At that time the Book of Moses was read aloud in the hearing of the people, and in it they found the passage stating that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,

2 क्योंकि उन्होंने इस्राएल के लिए भोजन और पानी का इंतजाम करने की बजाय उन पर शाप देने के लक्ष्य से बिलआम को पैसे दिए थे. मगर हमारे परमेश्वर ने शाप को आशीर्वाद में बदल दिया.

because they had not met the Israelites with food and water, but had hired Balaam to call down a curse against them (although our God had turned the curse into a blessing).

3 इसलिये जब उन्होंने उस व्यवस्था को सुना, उन्होंने सभी विदेशियों को इस्राएल में से बाहर कर दिया.

As soon as the people heard this law, they excluded from Israel all of foreign descent.

4 इसके पहले, पुरोहित एलियाशिब, जिसे हमारे परमेश्वर के भवन के कमरों का अधिकारी चुना गया था, वास्तव में तोबियाह का रिश्तेदार था.

Now before this, Eliashib the priest, a relative of Tobiah, had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God

5 उसने तोबियाह के लिए एक बड़े कमरे को बना रखा था, जहां इसके पहले अन्‍नबलि, लोबान, तरह-तरह के बर्तन और लेवियों, गायकों, द्वारपालों और पुरोहितों के लिए इकट्ठा दानों के ठहराए गए अन्‍न, अंगूर के रस और तेल का दसवां भाग जमा किया जाता था.

and had prepared for Tobiah a large room where they had previously stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the temple articles, and the tithes of grain, new wine, and oil prescribed for the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, along with the contributions for the priests.

6 मगर ऐसा हुआ कि इस समय में मैं येरूशलेम में था ही नहीं, क्योंकि बाबेल के राजा, अर्तहषस्ता के समय के बत्तीसवें साल में मैं राजा से मिलने गया हुआ था, मगर यहां कुछ समय रहने के बाद मैंने राजा की आज्ञा ली

While all this was happening, I was not in Jerusalem, because I had returned to Artaxerxes king of Babylon in the thirty-second year of his reign. Some time later I obtained leave from the king

7 और येरूशलेम आ गया. मुझे उस बुराई के बारे में पता चला, जो एलियाशिब ने तोबियाह के लिए किया—उसने परमेश्वर के भवन के आंगन में तोबियाह के लिए एक कमरा तैयार किया था.

to return to Jerusalem. Then I discovered the evil that Eliashib had done on behalf of Tobiah by providing him a room in the courts of the house of God.

8 इससे मैं बहुत नाराज़ हुआ; तब मैंने तोबियाह का सारा सामान उस कमरे के बाहर फेंक दिया.

And I was greatly displeased and threw all of Tobiah’s household goods out of the room.

9 तब मेरे आदेश पर वे कमरे शुद्ध किए गए. मैंने परमेश्वर के भवन के बर्तन, अन्‍नबलि और लोबान दोबारा उस कमरे में रखाव दिए.

Then I ordered that the rooms be purified, and I had the articles of the house of God restored to them, along with the grain offerings and frankincense.

10 तब मुझे यह भी पता चला कि लेवियों के लिए ठहराया हुआ भाग उन्हें दिया ही नहीं गया था, फलस्वरूप तरह-तरह की सेवाओं के लिए चुने गए लेवी और गायक सेवा का काम छोड़कर जा चुके थे-अपने-अपने खेतों में खेती करने.

I also learned that because the portions for the Levites had not been given to them, all the Levites and singers responsible for performing the service had gone back to their own fields.

11 इसलिये मैंने अधिकारियों को फटकार लगाई, “परमेश्वर का भवन क्यों छोड़ दिया गया है?” तब मैंने उन सबको वापस बुलाकर उन्हें सेवा के काम पर दोबारा नियुक्त कर दिया.

So I rebuked the officials and asked, “Why has the house of God been neglected?” Then I gathered the Levites and singers together and stationed them at their posts,

12 तब सारे यहूदिया के लोगों ने भंडार में अनाज, अंगूर का रस और तेल का दसवां भाग रखवा दिया.

and all Judah brought a tenth of the grain, new wine, and oil into the storerooms.

13 तब मैंने पुरोहित शेलेमियाह को, शासक सादोक को और लेवियों में से पेदाइयाह को भंडारों का अधिकारी ठहरा दिया. उनके अलावा मैंने, मत्तनियाह के पोते ज़क्‍कूर के पुत्र हनान को चुना, क्योंकि ये सभी विश्वासयोग्य पाए गए. इनकी जवाबदारी थी अपने रिश्तेदारों में सामग्री बांटना.

I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, with Hanan son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, to assist them, because they were considered trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing the supplies to their fellow Levites.

14 मेरे परमेश्वर, इस काम के लिए आप मुझे याद रखें. सच्चाई से किए गए मेरे कामों को, जो मैंने परमेश्वर के भवन और इसकी सेवा में किए हैं, आप मिटा न दीजिए.

Remember me for this, O my God, and do not blot out my deeds of loving devotion for the house of my God and for its services.

15 उन्हीं दिनों में मेरे सामने यह भी आया कि यहूदिया में कुछ व्यक्ति ऐसे थे, जो शब्बाथ पर अंगूर रौंद रहे थे, कुछ अनाज के बोरे नगर में ला रहे थे, कुछ इन्हें गधों पर लाद रहे थे, सभी प्रकार का सामान शब्बाथ पर येरूशलेम में लाया जा रहा था, वैसे ही अंगूर का रस, अंगूर, अंजीर और सभी प्रकार के बोझ. इसलिये मैंने शब्बाथ पर भोजन बेचने पर उन्हें डांटा.

In those days I saw people in Judah treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were being brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I warned them against selling food on that day.

16 येरूशलेम में कुछ सोरवासी भी रहने लगे थे, जो मछली और सब प्रकार का बिकने वाला सामान वहां से बिक्री कर रहे थे. वे यह सब यहूदाह के वंशजों को शब्बाथ पर बेच रहे थे; हां, येरूशलेम ही में!

Additionally, men of Tyre who lived there were importing fish and all kinds of merchandise and selling them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah in Jerusalem.

17 तब मैंने यहूदिया के रईसों को फटकार लगाई. मैंने उनसे कहा, “आप लोग शब्बाथ को अपवित्र कर यह कैसी बुराई कर रहे हैं?

Then I rebuked the nobles of Judah and asked, “What is this evil you are doing—profaning the Sabbath day?

18 क्या आपके पूर्वजों ने यह नहीं किया था, जिसके फलस्वरूप हमारे परमेश्वर ने हम पर और इस नगर पर यह सारी विपत्ति ड़ाल दी है? यह होने पर भी आप लोग शब्बाथ को अपवित्र करके इस्राएल पर परमेश्वर के क्रोध को बढ़ा रहे हैं.”

Did not your forefathers do the same things, so that our God brought all this disaster on us and on this city? And now you are rekindling His wrath against Israel by profaning the Sabbath!”

19 तब यह हुआ कि शब्बाथ शुरू होने के ठीक पहले, जब येरूशलेम के फाटकों पर अंधेरा छा ही रहा था, मैंने आदेश दिया कि फाटक बंद कर दिए जाएं और वे शब्बाथ खत्म होने के पहले बिलकुल न खोले जाएं. इसके बाद मैंने अपने ही कुछ सेवकों को फाटकों पर ठहरा दिया कि शब्बाथ पर किसी भी बोझ को अंदर न आने दिया जाए.

When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem, just before the Sabbath, I ordered that the gates be shut and not opened until after the Sabbath. I posted some of my servants at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.

20 एक या दो मौके ही ऐसे गए होंगे, जब विभिन्‍न प्रकार के व्यापारियों और बेचने वालों ने येरूशलेम के बाहर रात बिताई थी.

Once or twice, the merchants and those who sell all kinds of goods camped outside Jerusalem,

21 तब मैंने उन्हें इस प्रकार चेतावनी दी, “क्यों आप लोग शहरपनाह के पास रात बिताते हैं? यदि आप दोबारा यह करते पाए जाएंगे, तो मुझे आप पर ताकत का इस्तेमाल करना पड़ेगा.” इस चेतावनी के बाद वे शब्बाथ पर येरूशलेम कभी नहीं आए.

but I warned them, “Why are you camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they did not return on the Sabbath.

22 तब मैंने लेवियों को आदेश दिया कि शब्बाथ को पवित्र करने के उद्देश्य से वे अपने आपको शुद्ध कर द्वारपाल के समान आया करें. मेरे परमेश्वर, इस भले काम के लिए भी आप मुझे याद रखिए और अपनी बड़ी करुणा के अनुसार मुझ पर अपनी दया हमेशा बनाए रखिए.

Then I instructed the Levites to purify themselves and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy. Remember me for this as well, O my God, and show me mercy according to Your abundant loving devotion.

23 उन्हीं दिनों में मेरा ध्यान इस सच्चाई की ओर भी गया, कि यहूदियों ने अशदोद, अम्मोन और मोआब की स्त्रियों से विवाह किया हुआ था.

In those days I also saw Jews who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.

24 उनकी संतान के विषय में सच्चाई यह है कि उनकी संतान के आधे लोग अशदोद की भाषा बोलते है, उनमें से कोई भी यहूदिया की भाषा में बातचीत कर ही नहीं सकता, बल्कि वे सिर्फ अपने ही लोगों की भाषा का इस्तेमाल करते हैं.

Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod or of the other peoples, but could not speak the language of Judah.

25 इसलिये मैंने उनसे बहस की, उन्हें धिक्कारा, उनमें से कुछ पर तो मैंने हाथ भी छोड़ दिया और कुछ के बाल नोचे. तब मैंने उन्हें परमेश्वर की शपथ दी, “तुम उनके पुत्रों को अपनी पुत्रियां विवाह के लिए नहीं दोगे और न उनकी पुत्रियां को अपने पुत्रों के लिए या खुद अपने विवाह के लिए लोगे.

I rebuked them and called down curses on them. I beat some of these men and pulled out their hair. Then I made them take an oath before God and said, “You must not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters as wives for your sons or for yourselves!

26 क्या इस्राएल के राजा शलोमोन ने इन्हीं विषयों में पाप नहीं किया था? इतना होने पर भी अनेकों देशों में उनके समान राजा कोई न था. उन पर उनके परमेश्वर का प्रेम स्थिर था और परमेश्वर ने उन्हें सारे इस्राएल पर राजा ठहराया दिया; फिर भी, उन विदेशी स्त्रियों ने उन्हें तक पाप करने के लिए फेर दिया था.

Did not King Solomon of Israel sin in matters like this? There was not a king like him among many nations, and he was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel—yet foreign women drew him into sin.

27 तब क्या यह सही होगा कि हम आपसे सहमत होकर यह बड़ी बुराई करें और विदेशी स्त्रियों से विवाह करने के द्वारा अपने परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध विश्वासघात करें?”

Must we now hear that you too are doing all this terrible evil and acting unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?”

28 यहां तक कि महापुरोहित एलियाशिब के पुत्रों में से एक योइयादा, होरोनी के सनबल्लत का दामाद था. मैंने उसे वहां से निकाल दिया.

Even one of the sons of Jehoiada son of Eliashib the high priest had become a son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I drove him away from me.

29 मेरे परमेश्वर, आप इन्हें याद रखिए, क्योंकि इन्होंने पुरोहित के पद को और पुरोहित की और लेवियों की वाचा को अशुद्ध किया है.

Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites.

30 इस प्रकार मैंने उन्हें उन सभी से शुद्ध कर दिया, जो कुछ विदेशी था. मैंने पुरोहितों और लेवियों के लिए उनके कामों को ठहरा भी दिया-हर एक के लिए निश्चित काम.

Thus I purified the priests and Levites from everything foreign, and I assigned specific duties to each of the priests and Levites.

31 मैंने ठहराए गए अवसरों के लिए लकड़ी और पहले फलों को देने का भी प्रबंध कर दिया. मेरे परमेश्वर, मेरी भलाई के लिए मुझे याद रखिये!

I also arranged for contributions of wood at the appointed times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, with favor.
