मत्ती 3
1 कालांतर में यहूदिया प्रदेश के बंजर भूमि में बपतिस्मा देनेवाला योहन आकर यह प्रचार करने लगे,
In those days appeared John the Immerser, who proclaimed in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2 “मन फिराओ क्योंकि स्वर्ग-राज्य पास आ गया है.”
Reform, for the Reign of Heaven approaches.
3 यह वही हैं जिनके विषय में भविष्यवक्ता यशायाह ने अपने अभिलेख में इस प्रकार संकेत दिया है: “वह आवाज, जो बंजर भूमि में पुकार-पुकारकर कह रही है, ‘प्रभु का रास्ता सीधा करो, उनका मार्ग सरल बनाओ.’”
For this is he, of whom the Prophet Isaiah speaks in these words, "The voice of one proclaiming in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord, make for him a straight passage."
4 बपतिस्मा देनेवाले योहन का परिधान ऊंट के रोम से निर्मित वस्त्र और उसके ऊपर चमड़े का कमरबंध था, और उनका भोजन था टिड्डियां तथा जंगलीमधु.
Now John wore raiment of camel's hair with a letter girdle about his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 येरूशलेम नगर, सारे यहूदिया प्रदेश और यरदन नदी के नज़दीकी क्षेत्र से बड़ी संख्या में लोग उनके पास आने लगे.
Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the country along the Jordan, resorted to him,
6 पापों को मानने के बाद योहन उन्हें यरदन नदी में बपतिस्मा दिया करते थे.
and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 जब योहन ने देखा कि अनेक फ़रीसी और सदूकी बपतिस्मा लेने आ रहे हैं, उन्होंने उनकी उल्लाहना करते हुए कहा, “विषैले सांपों की संतान! समीप आ रहे क्रोध से भागने की चेतावनी तुम्हें किसने दे दी?
But he seeing many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to receive immersion, said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has prompted you to flee from the impending vengeance?
8 सच्चे मन फिराने का प्रमाण दो
Produce, then, the proper fruit of reformation;
9 और ऐसा मत सोचो कि आप कह सकते हैं, ‘हम तो अब्राहाम की संतान हैं!’ क्योंकि मैं तुम्हें बताता हूं कि परमेश्वर में इन पत्थरों तक से अब्राहाम की संतान पैदा करने का सामर्थ्य है.
and presume not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father, for I assure you, that of these stones God can raise children to Abraham.
10 कुल्हाड़ी पहले ही वृक्षों की जड़ पर रखी हुई है. हर एक पेड़, जो उत्तम फल नहीं फलता, काटा जाता और आग में झोंक दिया जाता है.
And even now the ax lies at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which produces not good fruit, is cut down, and turned into fuel.
11 “मैं तो तुम्हें पश्चाताप के लिए पानी से बपतिस्मा दे रहा हूं किंतु वह, जो मेरे बाद आ रहे हैं, मुझसे अधिक शक्तिशाली हैं. मैं तो इस योग्य भी नहीं कि उनकी जूतियां उठाऊं. वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा और आग में बपतिस्मा देंगे.
I, indeed, immerse you in water, into reformation; but he who comes after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and in fire.
12 सूप उनके हाथ में है. वह अपने खलिहान को अच्छी तरह साफ़ करेंगे, गेहूं को भंडार में इकट्ठा करेंगे और भूसी को कभी न बुझनेवाली आग में भस्म कर देंगे.”
His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his grain; he will gather his wheat into the granary, and consume the chaff in unquenchable fire.
13 येशु गलील प्रदेश से यरदन नदी पर योहन के पास आए कि उनके द्वारा बपतिस्मा लें
Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, to be immersed by John.
14 किंतु योहन ने इसका इनकार करते हुए कहा, “आवश्यक तो यह है कि मैं आपसे बपतिस्मा लूं. यहां तो आप मुझसे बपतिस्मा लेने आए हैं!”
But John excused himself, saying, It is I who need to be immersed by you; and you come to me!
15 मसीह येशु ने इसके उत्तर में कहा, “इस समय तो यही होने दो. हम दोनों के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित धार्मिकता इसी रीति से पूरी करना सही है.” इस पर योहन सहमत हो गए.
Jesus answering, said to him, Permit this at present; for thus ought we to ratify every institution. Then John acquiesced.
16 बपतिस्मा के बाद जैसे ही मसीह येशु जल में से बाहर आए, उनके लिए स्वर्ग खोल दिया गया और योहन ने परमेश्वर के आत्मा को कबूतर के समान उतरते हुए तथा येशु पर ठहरते देखा.
Jesus being immersed, no sooner arose out of the water, than heaven was opened to him; and the Spirit of God appeared, descending like a dove, and lighting upon him;
17 उसी समय स्वर्ग से यह शब्द सुना गया, “यह मेरा पुत्र है—मेरा परम प्रिय—जिससे मैं पूरी तरह प्रसन्न हूं.”
while a voice from heaven proclaimed, This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I delight.
