मत्ती 2
1 जब राजा हेरोदेस के शासनकाल में यहूदिया प्रदेश के बेथलेहेम नगर में येशु का जन्म हुआ, तब पूर्ववर्ती देशों से ज्योतिष येरूशलेम नगर आए और पूछताछ करने लगे,
After the birth of Jesus, at Bethlehem of Judea, in the reign of King Herod, certain eastern magians came to Jerusalem, and inquired,
2 “कहां हैं वह—यहूदियों के राजा, जिन्होंने जन्म लिया है? पूर्ववर्ती देशों में हमने उनका तारा देखा है और हम उनकी आराधना करने के लिए यहां आए हैं.”
Where is the new-born King of the Jews; for we have seen his star in the east country, and are coming to do him homage?
3 यह सुन राजा हेरोदेस व्याकुल हो उठा और उसके साथ सभी येरूशलेम निवासी भी.
King Herod hearing this, was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 राजा हेरोदेस ने प्रधान पुरोहितों और शास्त्रियों को इकट्ठा कर उनसे पूछताछ की कि वह कौन सा स्थान है जहां मसीह के जन्म लेने का संकेत है?
And having assembled all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he demanded of them where the Messiah should be born.
5 उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, “यहूदिया प्रदेश के बेथलेहेम नगर में, क्योंकि भविष्यवक्ता का लेख है:
They answered, at Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the Prophet,
6 “‘और तुम, यहूदिया प्रदेश के बेथलेहेम नगर, यहूदिया प्रदेश के नायकों के मध्य किसी भी रीति से छोटे नहीं हो क्योंकि तुममें से ही एक राजा का आगमन होगा, जो मेरी प्रजा इस्राएल का चरवाहा होगा.’”
"And thou Bethlehem, in the canton of Judah, are not the least illustrious among the cities of Judah; for out of thee shall come a ruler, who will govern my people Israel."
7 इसलिये हेरोदेस ने ज्योतिषियों को अलग ले जाकर उनसे उस तारे के उदय होने का ठीक-ठीक समय मालूम किया
Then Herod having secretly called the magians, procured from them exact information concerning the time of the star's appearing.
8 और उन्हें बेथलेहेम नगर भेजते हुए कहा, “आप लोग जाकर सावधानीपूर्वक उस बालक की खोज कीजिए और जब वह आपको मिल जाए तो मुझे इसकी सूचना दीजिए कि मैं भी उसकी वंदना करने जा सकूं.”
And sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go, make an exact inquiry about the child; and when you have found him bring me word, that I may go also, and pay him homage.
9 राजा की आज्ञा सुन उन्होंने अपनी यात्रा दोबारा प्रारंभ की. उन्हें वही तारा दिखाई दिया, जो उन्होंने पूर्ववर्ती देशों में देखा था. वे उसके दर्शन में आगे बढ़ते चले गए जब तक वह तारा उस बालक के घर पर जाकर ठहर न गया.
Having heard the King, they departed; and lo! the star which had appeared to them in the east country, moved before them, till it came, and stood over the place, where the child was.
10 उसे देखकर वे बड़े आनंद से भर गए.
When they again saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly.
11 घर में प्रवेश करने पर उन्होंने उस बालक को उसकी माता मरियम के साथ देखा और झुककर उस बालक की आराधना की और फिर उन्होंने अपने कीमती उपहार सोना, लोबान और गन्धरस उसे भेंट चढ़ाई.
And being come into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother; and, prostrating themselves, did him homage. Then opening their caskets, they offered, as presents to him, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 उन्हें स्वप्न में परमेश्वर द्वारा यह चेतावनी दी गई कि वे राजा हेरोदेस के पास लौटकर न जाएं. इसलिये वे एक अन्य मार्ग से अपने देश लौट गए.
And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went home another way.
13 उनके विदा होने के बाद प्रभु का एक दूत ने योसेफ़ को एक स्वप्न में प्रकट होकर आज्ञा दी, “उठो, बालक और उसकी माता को लेकर मिस्र देश को भाग जाओ और उस समय तक वहीं ठहरे रहना जब तक मैं तुम्हें आज्ञा न दूं क्योंकि हेरोदेस हत्या की मंशा से बालक को खोज रहा है.”
When they were gone, lo! a messenger of the Lord appearing to Joseph in a dream, said, Arise, take the child with his mother, and flee into Egypt; and remain there till I order you; for Herod will seek the child to destroy him.
14 इसलिये योसेफ़ उठे और अभी, जबकि रात ही थी, उन्होंने बालक और उसकी माता को लेकर मिस्र देश को प्रस्थान किया.
Accordingly he arose, took the child with his mother, and withdrew by night into Egypt,
15 वे वहां हेरोदेस की मृत्यु तक ठहरे रहे कि प्रभु का यह वचन पूरा हो, जो उन्होंने एक भविष्यवक्ता के माध्यम से कहा था: “मिस्र देश से मैंने अपने पुत्र को बुलाया.”
where he continued until the death of Herod; so that, what the Lord had spoken by the Prophet, was verified, "Out of Egypt I called my Son."
16 यह मालूम होने पर कि ज्योतिष उसे मूर्ख बना गए, हेरोदेस बहुत ही क्रोधित हुआ. ज्योतिषियों से मिली सूचना के आधार पर उसने बेथलेहेम नगर और उसके नज़दीकी क्षेत्र में दो वर्ष तथा उससे कम आयु के सभी शिशुओं के विनाश की आज्ञा दे दी.
Then Herod, finding that he had been deceived by the magians, was highly incensed and dispatched emissaries who slew, by his order, all the male children in Bethlehem, and in all its territory, from those entering the second year, down to the time of which he had procured exact information from the magians.
17 इससे भविष्यवक्ता येरेमियाह द्वारा पूर्वघोषित इस वचन की पूर्ति हुई:
Then was the word of Jeremiah the Prophet verified,
18 “रमाह नगर में एक शब्द सुना गया, रोना तथा घोर विलाप! राहेल अपने बालकों के लिए रो रही है. धीरज उसे स्वीकार नहीं क्योंकि अब वे हैं ही नहीं.”
"A cry was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and weeping, and bitter complaint: Rachel bewailing her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."
19 जब राजा हेरोदेस की मृत्यु हुई, प्रभु के एक दूत ने स्वप्न में प्रकट होकर योसेफ़ को आज्ञा दी,
When Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord appearing in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, said,
20 “उठो! बालक और उसकी माता को लेकर इस्राएल देश लौट जाओ क्योंकि जो बालक के प्राण लेने पर उतारू थे, उनकी मृत्यु हो चुकी है.”
Arise, take the child with his mother, and go into the land of Israel; for they are dead who sought his life.
21 इसलिये योसेफ़ उठे और बालक और उसकी माता को लेकर इस्राएल देश में लौट आए.
Accordingly, he arose, took the child with his mother, and came to the land of Israel;
22 यह मालूम होने पर कि हेरोदेस के स्थान पर अब उसका पुत्र आरखेलाओस यहूदिया प्रदेश का राजा है, भय के कारण वह वहां नहीं गए. तब परमेश्वर की ओर से स्वप्न में चेतावनी प्राप्त होने पर वह गलील प्रदेश की ओर चल दिए
but hearing that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod in the throne of Judea, he was afraid to return thither; and being warned in a dream, retired into the district of Galilee,
23 तथा नाज़रेथ नामक नगर में जाकर बस गए कि भविष्यवक्ताओं द्वारा कहा गया-यह वचन पूरा हो: वह नाज़री कहलाएगा.
and resided in a city named Nazareth; in this verifying the declarations of the Prophet concerning Jesus, that he should be called a Nazarene.
