लूका 14

1 एक अवसर पर जब प्रभु येशु शब्बाथ पर फ़रीसियों के नायकों में से एक के घर भोजन करने गए, वे सभी उन्हें उत्सुकतापूर्वक देख रहे थे.

When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.

2 वहां जलोदर रोग से पीड़ित एक व्यक्ति था.

Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.

3 प्रभु येशु ने फ़रीसियों और वकीलों से प्रश्न किया, “शब्बाथ पर किसी को स्वस्थ करना व्यवस्था के अनुसार है या नहीं?”

Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

4 किंतु वे मौन रहे. इसलिये प्रभु येशु ने उस रोगी पर हाथ रख उसे स्वस्थ कर दिया तथा उसे विदा किया.

But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.

5 तब प्रभु येशु ने उनसे प्रश्न किया, “यह बताओ, यदि तुममें से किसी का पुत्र या बैल शब्बाथ पर कुएं में गिर जाए तो क्या तुम उसे तुरंत ही बाहर न निकालोगे?”

He answered them, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

6 उनके पास इस प्रश्न का कोई उत्तर न था.

They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.

7 जब प्रभु येशु ने यह देखा कि आमंत्रित व्यक्ति अपने लिए किस प्रकार प्रधान आसन चुन लेते हैं, प्रभु येशु ने उन्हें यह विचार दिया:

He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,

8 “जब भी कोई तुम्हें विवाह के उत्सव में आमंत्रित करे, तुम अपने लिए आदरयोग्य आसन न चुनना. यह संभव है कि उसने तुमसे अधिक किसी आदरयोग्य व्यक्ति को भी आमंत्रित किया हो.

“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,

9 तब वह व्यक्ति, जिसने तुम्हें और उसे दोनों ही को आमंत्रित किया है, आकर तुमसे कहे ‘तुम यह आसन इन्हें दे दो,’ तब लज्जित हो तुम्हें वह आसन छोड़कर सबसे पीछे के आसन पर बैठना पड़े.

and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.

10 किंतु जब तुम्हें कहीं आमंत्रित किया जाए, जाकर सबसे साधारण आसन पर बैठ जाओ जिससे कि जब जिसने तुम्हें आमंत्रित किया है तुम्हारे पास आए तो यह कहे, ‘मेरे मित्र, उठो और उस ऊंचे आसन पर बैठो.’ इस पर अन्य सभी आमंत्रित अतिथियों के सामने तुम आदरयोग्य साबित होगे.

But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

11 हर एक, जो स्वयं को बड़ा बनाता है, छोटा बना दिया जाएगा तथा जो स्वयं को छोटा बना देता है, बड़ा किया जाएगा.”

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

12 तब फिर प्रभु येशु ने अपने न्योता देनेवाले से कहा, “जब तुम दिन या रात के भोजन पर किसी को आमंत्रित करो तो अपने मित्रों, भाई-बंधुओं, परिजनों या धनवान पड़ोसियों को आमंत्रित मत करो; ऐसा न हो कि वे भी तुम्हें आमंत्रित करें और तुम्हें बदला मिल जाए.

He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

13 किंतु जब तुम भोज का आयोजन करो तो निर्धनों, अपंगों, लंगड़ों तथा अंधों को आमंत्रित करो.

But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;

14 तब तुम परमेश्वर की कृपा के भागी बनोगे. वे लोग तुम्हारा बदला नहीं चुका सकते. बदला तुम्हें धर्मियों के दोबारा जी उठने (पुनरुत्थान) के अवसर पर प्राप्‍त होगा.”

and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

15 यह सुन वहां आमंत्रित लोगों में से एक ने प्रभु येशु से कहा, “धन्य है वह, जो परमेश्वर के राज्य के भोज में सम्मिलित होगा.”

When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in God’s Kingdom!”

16 यह सुन प्रभु येशु ने कहा, “किसी व्यक्ति ने एक बड़ा भोज का आयोजन किया और अनेकों को आमंत्रित किया.

But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

17 भोज तैयार होने पर उसने अपने सेवकों को इस सूचना के साथ आमंत्रितों के पास भेजा, ‘आ जाइए, सब कुछ तैयार है.’

He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

18 “किंतु वे सभी बहाने बनाने लगे. एक ने कहा, ‘मैंने भूमि मोल ली है और आवश्यक है कि मैं जाकर उसका निरीक्षण करूं. कृपया मुझे क्षमा करें.’

They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’

19 “दूसरे ने कहा, ‘मैंने अभी-अभी पांच जोड़े बैल मोल लिए हैं और मैं उन्हें परखने के लिए बस निकल ही रहा हूं. कृपया मुझे क्षमा करें.’

“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’

20 “एक और अन्य ने कहा, ‘अभी, इसी समय मेरा विवाह हुआ है इसलिये मेरा आना संभव नहीं.’

“Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’

21 “सेवक ने लौटकर अपने स्वामी को यह सूचना दे दी. अत्यंत गुस्से में घर के स्वामी ने सेवक को आज्ञा दी, ‘तुरंत नगर की गलियों-चौराहों में जाओ और निर्धनों, अपंगों, लंगड़ों और अंधों को ले आओ.’

“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’

22 “सेवक ने लौटकर सूचना दी, ‘स्वामी, आपके आदेशानुसार काम पूरा हो चुका है किंतु अब भी कुछ जगह भरने बाकी है.’

“The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’

23 “तब घर के स्वामी ने उसे आज्ञा दी, ‘अब नगर के बाहर के मार्गों से लोगों को यहां आने के लिए विवश करो कि मेरा भवन भर जाए.

“The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 यह निश्चित है कि वे, जिन्हें पहले आमंत्रित किया गया था, उनमें से एक भी मेरे भोज को चख न सकेगा.’”

For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper. For many are called, but few are chosen.’”

25 एक बड़ी भीड़ प्रभु येशु के साथ साथ चल रही थी. प्रभु येशु ने मुड़कर उनसे कहा,

Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,

26 “यदि कोई मेरे पास आता है और अपने माता-पिता, पत्नी, संतान तथा भाई बहनों को, यहां तक कि स्वयं अपने जीवन को, मुझसे अधिक महत्व देता है, मेरा चेला नहीं हो सकता.

“If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.

27 वह, जो अपना क्रूस स्वयं उठाए हुए मेरा अनुसरण नहीं करता, वह मेरा चेला हो ही नहीं सकता.

Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross and come after me, can’t be my disciple.

28 “तुममें ऐसा कौन है, जो भवन निर्माण करना चाहे और पहले बैठकर खर्च का अनुमान न करे कि उसके पास निर्माण काम पूरा करने के लिए पर्याप्‍त राशि है भी या नहीं?

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?

29 अन्यथा यदि वह नींव डाल ले और काम पूरा न कर पाए तो देखनेवालों के ठट्ठों का कारण बन जाएगा:

Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation and isn’t able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,

30 ‘देखो, देखो! इसने काम प्रारंभ तो कर दिया किंतु अब समाप्‍त नहीं कर पा रहा!’

saying, ‘This man began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “या ऐसा कौन राजा होगा, जो दूसरे पर आक्रमण करने के पहले यह विचार न करेगा कि वह अपने दस हज़ार सैनिकों के साथ अपने विरुद्ध बीस हज़ार की सेना से टक्कर लेने में समर्थ है भी या नहीं?

Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

32 यदि नहीं, तो जब शत्रु की सेना दूर ही है, वह अपने दूतों को भेजकर उसके सामने शांति का प्रस्ताव रखेगा.

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy and asks for conditions of peace.

33 इसी प्रकार तुममें से कोई भी मेरा चेला नहीं हो सकता यदि वह अपना सब कुछ त्याग न कर दे.

So therefore, whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

34 “नमक उत्तम है किंतु यदि नमक ही स्वादहीन हो जाए तो किस वस्तु से उसका स्वाद लौटाया जा सकेगा?

“Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?

35 तब वह न तो भूमि के लिए किसी उपयोग का रह जाता है और न खाद के रूप में किसी उपयोग का. उसे फेंक दिया जाता है. “जिसके सुनने के कान हों, वह सुन ले.”

It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
