न्यायियों 3

1 उन जनताओं को याहवेह ने नहीं हटाया कि याहवेह इनके द्वारा इस्राएल की नयी पीढ़ी को, जो कनान के किसी भी युद्ध में शामिल नहीं हुए थे, परख सके,

And these [are] the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;

2 और उन्हें युद्ध की कला में शिक्षित किया जा सके, जिन्हें इसके पहले युद्ध का कोई अनुभव न हो सका था.

(only for the sake of the generations of the sons of Israel's knowing, to teach them war, only those who formerly have not known them) —

3 वे जनता ये थे: फिलिस्तीनी, (जिनका शासन पांच नगरों में बंट कर हो रहा था), बाल-हरमोन पर्वत से लेकर लबो-हामाथ तक लबानोन पर्वत पर रह रहे सभी कनानी, सीदोनी तथा हिव्वी.

five princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

4 ये सभी इस्राएल को परखने के लिए रखे गए थे, कि यह स्पष्ट हो जाए, कि वे याहवेह के आदेशों, जो उनके पुरखों को याहवेह ने मोशेह के द्वारा दिए थे, उनका पालन करते हैं या नहीं.

and they are to prove Israel by them, to know whether they obey the commands of Jehovah that He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 इस्राएल के वंशज कनानी, हित्ती, अमोरी, परिज्ज़ी, हिव्वी तथा यबूसियों के बीच रहते रहे.

And the sons of Israel have dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

6 वे उनकी बेटियों को अपनी पत्नी बनाने के लिए ले लेते थे, तथा अपनी बेटियों को उनके बेटों को दे दिया करते थे, तथा उनके देवताओं की सेवा-उपासना भी करते थे.

and take their daughters to them for wives, and their daughters have given to their sons, and they serve their gods;

7 इस्राएल वंशजों ने वह किया, जो याहवेह की नज़र में बुरा था. उन्होंने याहवेह, अपने परमेश्वर को भुलाकर, बाल तथा अशेरा की सेवा-उपासना करना शुरू कर दिया.

and the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

8 याहवेह का क्रोध इस्राएल के विरुद्ध भड़क उठा. इस कारण याहवेह ने उन्हें मेसोपोतामिया के राजा कूशन-रिशाथईम के हाथों में बेच दिया. इस्राएल वंशज आठ साल कूशन-रिशाथईम के दासत्व में रहे.

And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

9 मगर जब इस्राएल वंशजों ने याहवेह की दोहाई दी, याहवेह ने इस्राएल वंशजों के लिए एक छुड़ानेवाले का उदय किया, कि वह इस्राएल वंशजों को छुड़ाए: कालेब के छोटे भाई केनज़ के पुत्र ओथनीएल को.

and the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them — Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother;

10 याहवेह का आत्मा उस पर उतरा, और उसने इस्राएल पर शासन किया. जब वह युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़ा, याहवेह ने मेसोपोतामिया के राजा कुशान-रिशाथईम को उसके अधीन कर दिया. फलस्वरूप, कूशन-रिशाथईम ओथनीएल के अधीन हो गया.

and the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

11 इसके बाद देश में चालीस सालों तक शांति बनी रही, फिर केनज़ के पुत्र ओथनीएल की मृत्यु हो गई.

and the land resteth forty years. And Othniel son of Kenaz dieth,

12 एक बार फिर इस्राएल के वंशजों ने वह किया, जो याहवेह की नज़र में गलत था. इस कारण याहवेह ने इस्राएल के विरुद्ध मोआब के राजा एगलोन की शक्ति बढ़ा दी, क्योंकि उन्होंने वह किया था, जो याहवेह की नज़र में गलत था.

and the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengtheneth Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;

13 एगलोन ने अम्मोन के वंशजों तथा अमालेक के वंशजों से मित्रता कर ली. उसने हमला कर इस्राएल को हरा दिया तथा खजूर वृक्षों के नगर को अपने वश में कर लिया.

and he gathereth unto him the Bene-Ammon and Amalek, and goeth and smiteth Israel, and they possess the city of palms;

14 इस्राएल के वंशज अठारह वर्ष मोआब के राजा एगलोन के दासत्व में रहे.

and the sons of Israel serve Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

15 तब इस्राएल के वंशजों ने याहवेह की दोहाई दी, और याहवेह ने उनके लिए एक छुड़ानेवाले का उदय किया, बिन्यामिन के वंशज गेरा का पुत्र एहूद का. वह बांए हाथ से काम करता था. इस्राएलियों ने उसी के द्वारा मोआब के राजा एगलोन को कर की राशि भेजी थी.

And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man — shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

16 एहूद ने अपने लिए दोधारी तलवार बना रखी थी, जिसकी लंबाई लगभग आधा मीटर थी. इसे उसने अपने बाहरी वस्त्र के भीतर दाईं जांघ पर बांध रखा था.

and Ehud maketh for himself a sword, and it hath two mouths (a cubit [is] its length), and he girdeth it under his long robe on his right thigh;

17 उसने मोआब के राजा एगलोन को कर राशि भेंट की. एगलोन बहुत ही मोटा व्यक्ति था.

and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon [is] a very fat man.

18 जब एहूद उसे कर राशि भेंट कर चुका, उसने उन सभी व्यक्तियों को भेज दिया, जो उसके साथ आए थे.

And it cometh to pass, when he hath finished to bring near the present, that he sendeth away the people bearing the present,

19 एहूद स्वयं गिलगाल की मूर्तियों के पास पहुंचने के बाद वहां से लौट आया और राजा को कहा, “महाराज, मुझे आपको एक गुप्‍त संदेश देना है.” राजा ने आदेश दिया, “शांति!” तब सभी सेवक कमरे से बाहर चले गए.

and he himself hath turned back from the graven images which [are] at Gilgal, and saith, 'A secret word I have unto thee, O king;' and he saith, 'Hush!' and go out from him do all those standing by him.

20 एहूद राजा के निकट गया. राजा इस समय छत पर बने अपने ठण्ड़े कमरे में अकेला बैठा हुआ था. एहूद ने राजा से कहा, “मुझे परमेश्वर की ओर से आपके लिए भेजा हुआ एक संदेश देना है.” सो राजा अपने आसन से उठ खड़ा हुआ.

And Ehud hath come unto him, and he is sitting in the upper chamber of the wall which he hath for himself, and Ehud saith, 'A word of God I have unto thee;' and he riseth from off the throne;

21 एहूद ने अपने बाएं हाथ से दाईं जांघ पर बंधी हुई तलवार निकाली और राजा के पेट में भोंक दी.

and Ehud putteth forth his left hand, and taketh the sword from off his right thigh, and striketh it into his belly;

22 फ़लक के साथ मुठिया भी भीतर चली गई और चर्बी ने फ़लक को ढक लिया. एहूद ने एगलोन के पेट से तलवार बाहर नहीं निकाली. पेट में से मल बाहर निकल आया.

and the haft also goeth in after the blade, and the fat shutteth on the blade, that he hath not drawn the sword out of his belly, and it goeth out at the fundament.

23 एहूद बाहर बरामदा में चला गया, उसने अपने पीछे छत के कमरे के दरवाजे बंद कर दिए और ताला लगा दिया.

And Ehud goeth out at the porch, and shutteth the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and hath bolted [it];

24 जब वह जा चुका, राजा के सेवक आए और उन्होंने देखा कि दरवाजे पर ताला लगा हुआ है, उन्होंने सोचा, “महाराज ठण्ड़े कमरे में आराम कर रहे होंगे.”

and he hath gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, 'He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall.'

25 वे लोग इतनी देर तक इंतजार करते-करते व्याकुल हो गए. फिर भी जब छत के कमरे का दरवाजा न खुला, उन्होंने चाबी लेकर दरवाजा खोला तो देखा कि उनका स्वामी भूमि पर मरा पड़ा हुआ था.

And they stay till confounded, and lo, he is not opening the doors of the upper chamber, and they take the key, and open, and lo, their lord is fallen to the earth — dead.

26 यहां, जब वे इंतजार कर रहे थे, एहूद निकल भागा. वह मूर्तियों के पास से निकलकर सईरा जा पहुंचा.

And Ehud escaped during their tarrying, and hath passed by the images, and is escaped to Seirath.

27 वहां उसने एफ्राईम के पहाड़ी प्रदेश में तुरही फूंका. इस्राएल के वंशज पहाड़ी इलाके से उसका पीछा करते हुए नीचे आए और वह उनका अगुआ बन गया.

And it cometh to pass, in his coming in, that he bloweth with a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and go down with him do the sons of Israel from the hill-country, and he before them;

28 उसने घोषणा की, “मेरे पीछे चले आओ, क्योंकि याहवेह ने तुम्हारे शत्रु मोआबियों को तुम्हारे अधीन कर दिया है.” सो वे उसके साथ गए और जाकर यरदन के घाटों को, जो मोआब के परे थे, अपने अधीन कर लिया और किसी को भी पार जाने न दिया.

and he saith unto them, 'Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;' and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

29 उस समय उन्होंने लगभग दस हज़ार मोआबियों को मार डाला. ये सभी हष्ट-पुष्ट पुरुष थे. इनमें से एक भी बचकर निकल न सका.

And they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

30 इस प्रकार उस दिन इस्राएल ने मोआब को अपने अधीन कर लिया. इसके बाद देश में अस्सी साल तक शांति बनी रही.

and Moab is humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land resteth eighty years.

31 एहूद के बाद अनात के पुत्र शमगर ने बैलों को हांकने की छड़ी का प्रयोग कर छः सौ फिलिस्तीनियों को मार डाला और इस प्रकार उसने भी इस्राएल को छुटकारा दिलाया.

And after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines — six hundred men — with an ox-goad, and he saveth — he also — Israel.
