1 कुछ समय बाद, गेहूं की कटनी के समय पर शिमशोन एक मेमना लेकर अपनी पत्नी से भेंटकरने गया: उसने उसके पिता से कहा, “मुझे अपनी पत्नी के कमरे में जाने की अनुमति दीजिए.” किंतु उसके ससुर ने उसे अनुमति नहीं दी.
Some time later when the wheat was being harvested, Samson went to pay his wife a visit, taking with him a young goat as a present. “I want to go to my wife in her bedroom,” he said when he arrived, but her father would not let him go in.
2 उसके ससुर ने उससे कहा, “मुझे तो यह लगा कि तुम्हें उससे घोर नफरत हो गई है; इसलिये मैंने उसे तुम्हारे साथी को दे दिया है. सुनो, क्या उसकी छोटी बहन उससे अधिक सुंदर नहीं है? अपनी पत्नी के स्थान पर तुम उसकी छोटी बहन को ले लो.”
“I thought you must totally hate her, so I gave her to your best man,” he told Samson. “But her younger sister is even more attractive—why don't you marry her instead?”
3 इस पर शिमशोन ने कहा, “अब यदि फिलिस्तीनियों का कोई नुकसान होता है, तो मुझे दोष न देना.”
“This time I can't be blamed for the trouble I'm going to cause the Philistines,” Samson declared.
4 शिमशोन ने जाकर तीन सौ लोमड़ियां पकड़ी, दो-दो लोमड़ियों की पूछो को बांधकर उनके बीच एक-एक मशाल बांध दी.
He went and caught three hundred foxes and tied their tails together, two by two.
5 जब उसने मशालों को जला लिया, उसने लोमड़ियों को फिलिस्तीनियों की खड़ी उपज में छोड़ दिया. इससे उनकी पुलियां तथा खड़ी हुई उपज जल गई. इसके अलावा उनके अंगूर के बगीचे और जैतून के बगीचे भी नष्ट होते गए.
He attached a torch to each of the tied tails and set them on fire. Then he let them loose in the grain fields of the Philistines, setting fire to all the grain, harvested and unharvested, as well as the vineyards and olive groves.
6 फिलिस्तीनी पूछताछ करने लगे, “किसने किया है यह?” और उन्हें बताया गया, “शिमशोन, तिमनी के दामाद ने, क्योंकि तिमनी ने उसकी पत्नी उसके साथी को दे दी है.” इसलिये फिलिस्तीनी आए और उसकी पत्नी और ससुर को जला दिया.
“Who did this?” the Philistines asked. “It was Samson, the son-in-law of the man from Timnah,” they were told. “That man gave Samson's wife to Samson's best man.” So the Philistines went and burned her and her father to death.
7 शिमशोन ने उनसे कहा, “तुमने जो कदम उठाया है, उसके कारण मैं शपथ खाता हूं कि जब तक मैं तो इसका बदला नहीं लूंगा, तब तक मैं शांति से नहीं बैठूंगा.”
Samson told them, “If this is the way you're going to act, then I won't stop until I take my revenge on you!”
8 फिर उसने बड़ी निर्दयता से उनको मार डाला और उसके बाद जाकर एथाम की चट्टान की गुफा में रहने लगा.
He attacked them violently, killing them, and then left to go and live in a cave at the rock of Etam.
9 फिलिस्तीनियों ने यहूदिया में पड़ाव डाल दिए, और उधर के लेही नगर पर हमला कर दिया.
So the Philistine army came and camped in Judah, drawn up for battle near Lehi.
10 यहूदिया के रहनेवालों ने उनसे पूछा, “हम पर हमला क्यों?” उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, “शिमशोन को बांधकर ले जाने के लिए हम आए हैं, ताकि हम उससे बदला लें.”
The people of Judah asked, “Why have you invaded us?” “We've come to capture Samson, to do to him what he's done to us!” they replied.
11 इसलिये यहूदिया के रहनेवाले तीन हज़ार लोग एथाम की चट्टान पर जाकर शिमशोन से कहने लगे, “क्या तुम भूल गए कि फिलिस्तीनी हमारे शासक हैं? तुमने हमारे साथ यह क्या कर डाला है?” शिमशोन ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “जैसा उन्होंने मेरे साथ किया, वैसा ही मैंने भी उनके साथ किया है.”
Three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam and asked Samson, “Don't you understand that the Philistines rule over us? What do you think you're doing to us?” “I only did what they did to me,” he replied.
12 यहूदिया के रहनेवालों ने उससे कहा, “तुम्हें बंदी बनाकर फिलिस्तीनियों को सौंप देने के लिए हम यहां आए हैं.” शिमशोन ने उनसे कहा, “बस, मुझसे शपथ लो, कि तुम मेरी हत्या न करोगे.”
“Well, we've come to take you prisoner and hand you over to the Philistines,” they told him. “Just swear to me that you're not going to kill me yourselves,” Samson answered.
13 उन्होंने उसे आश्वासन दिया, “नहीं, नहीं, हम तुम्हें अच्छी तरह से बांधकर फिलिस्तीनियों को सौंप देंगे. मगर हम तुम्हारी हत्या नहीं करेंगे.” तब उन्होंने शिमशोन को दो नई रस्सियां लेकर बांध दिया और उसे गुफा में से बाहर ले आए.
“No, we won't,” they assured him. “We'll only tie you up and hand you over to the Philistines. We certainly aren't going to kill you!” They tied him using two new ropes and led him up from the rock.
14 जब वे लेही पहुंचे, फिलिस्तीनी उससे मिलने के लिए चिल्लाते हुए आ गए. याहवेह का आत्मा सामर्थ्य में शिमशोन पर उतरा. उसकी बांधी गई रस्सियां ऐसी हो गईं जैसे आग में जला हुआ सन. उसके बंधन उसके हाथों से गिर पड़े.
When Samson got close to Lehi, the Philistines ran towards him, shouting at him. But the Spirit of the Lord swept over him, and the ropes tying his arms together became as weak as burnt flax, and his hands broke free.
15 उसे वहीं एक गधे के जबड़े की हड्डी मिली, जिसे उसने उठा लिया और उससे एक हज़ार फिलिस्तीनियों को मार डाला.
He grabbed the fresh jawbone of a donkey, using it to kill a thousand Philistines.
16 तब शिमशोन ने कहा, “गधे के जबड़े की हड्डी से मैंने उनके ढेर पर ढेर लगा दिए. गधे के जबड़े की हड्डी से मैंने एक हज़ार व्यक्तियों को मार दिया.”
Then Samson declared, “With a donkey's jawbone I have piled the dead into heaps. With a donkey's jawbone I have killed a thousand men.”
17 यह कहकर उसने गधे के जबड़े की हड्डी फेंक दी. वह स्थान रामात-लेही नाम से मशहूर हो गया.
After Samson had finished his speech, he threw away the jawbone, and he named the place Hill of the Jawbone.
18 तब वह बहुत ही प्यासा हो गया. उसने इन शब्दों में याहवेह की दोहाई दी, “आपने अपने सेवक को यह महान विजय दी है; अब क्या मैं इस प्यास के कारण इन खतना-रहित लोगों द्वारा मारा जाऊंगा?”
He was now extremely thirsty, and he Samson called out to the Lord, saying, “You have achieved this amazing victory through your servant, but now do I have to die of thirst and be captured by the heathen?”
19 तब परमेश्वर ने लेही की भूमि के उस गड्ढे को ऐसा फाड़ दिया, कि उसमें से जल निकलने लगा. जब शिमशोन ने उसे पिया, उसमें दोबारा बल आ गया और वह फिर से ताजा हो गया. इस घटना के कारण उसने उस स्थान को एन-हक्कोरे नाम दिया. लेही में यह आज तक बना हुआ है.
So God split open a rock seam in Lehi, and water came out of it. Samson drank and his strength returned—he felt much better. That's why he named it the Spring of the Caller, and it's still there in Lehi to this very day.
20 फिलिस्तीनियों के शासनकाल में शिमशोन ने बीस साल तक इस्राएल पर शासन किया.
Samson led Israel as judge for twenty years during the time of the Philistines.
