यहोशू 14

1 पुरोहित एलिएज़र तथा नून के पुत्र यहोशू तथा इस्राएल के परिवारों के मुखियों द्वारा कनान देश में इस्राएलियों को दिया गया हिस्सा इस प्रकार है.

This was the land that was allotted to the Israelites to own in the land of Canaan by Eleazar the priest, Joshua, son of Nun, and the leaders of the tribes.

2 उनके भाग के लिए चिट्ठी डालकर, नाम चुनकर मीरास का निर्णय लिया गया. साढ़े नौ गोत्रों के संबंध में याहवेह ने मोशेह को यही आदेश दिया था.

The decision regarding the land division among the nine and a half tribes was made by casting lots, as the Lord had instructed Moses.

3 मोशेह तो ढाई गोत्रों को यरदन के पार हिस्सा दे चुके थे. उनके साथ मोशेह ने लेवी गोत्र को कोई भी हिस्सा नहीं दिया,

Moses had allotted land to the two and a half tribes east of the Jordan but he had made no allocation to the Levites among them.

4 क्योंकि योसेफ़ के दो गोत्र थे; मनश्शेह तथा एफ्राईम. इस देश में लेवी के वंश को कोई भी हिस्सा नहीं दिया गया था. उन्हें केवल रहने के लिए ही जगह दी गई थी. उनके चराइयां एवं उनके पशु ही उनकी संपत्ति थी.

The descendants of Joseph had become two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. The Levites were not given any land, only towns to live in and pasture for their flocks and herds.

5 इस विषय में इस्राएल वंश ने ठीक वही किया जैसा याहवेह द्वारा मोशेह को आदेश दिया गया था.

So the Israelites followed the instructions the Lord had given Moses in allocating the land.

6 जब गिलगाल में यहूदाह गोत्र के लोग यहोशू के पास आए, और कनिज्ज़ी येफुन्‍नेह के पुत्र कालेब ने यहोशू से आग्रह किया, “कादेश-बरनेअ में परमेश्वर के दास मोशेह से आपके तथा मेरे संबंध में की गई याहवेह की प्रतिज्ञा आपको मालूम है.

Leaders from the tribe of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb, son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him, “You remember what the Lord told Moses, the man of God, at Kadesh-barnea about me and you.

7 जब याहवेह के सेवक मोशेह ने मुझे कादेश-बरनेअ से इस देश की जानकारी लेने भेजा था, तब मेरी आयु चालीस वर्ष की थी. और मैं उनके लिए सही सूचना लाया.

I was forty when Moses, the servant of God, sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land. When I returned I told the truth in my report.

8 फिर भी उन लोगों ने, जो मेरे साथ वहां आये थे उनको डरा दिया; किंतु मैंने याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर की बात को पूरा किया.

But those who went with me made our people afraid. However, I have faithfully followed the Lord my God.

9 तब उस दिन मोशेह ने यह कहते हुए शपथ ली: ‘निश्चय जिस भूमि पर तुम्हारे पांव पड़े हैं, हमेशा के लिए तुम्हारे तथा तुम्हारे बच्चों के लिए हो जाएंगे, क्योंकि तुमने पूरे मन से याहवेह, मेरे परमेश्वर की इच्छा अनुसार काम किया है.’

At that time Moses made a solemn promise, telling me, ‘The land where you have walked will belong to you and your children forever, because you faithfully followed the Lord my God.’

10 “जब इस्राएली मरुभूमि में भटक रहे थे, तब याहवेह ने मोशेह को इस बारे में बताया था कि, अपने वायदे के अनुसार याहवेह ने मुझे पैंतालीस वर्ष जीवित रखा है. आज मेरी उम्र पचासी वर्ष की हो चुकी है.

Look—the Lord has kept me alive these past forty-five years as he promised, from the time the Lord told Moses this while Israel was wandering in the wilderness. Now I'm eighty-five,

11 मुझमें आज भी वैसा ही बल है, जैसा उस समय था, जब मोशेह ने मुझे वहां भेजा था. युद्ध के लिए मुझमें जैसा बल उस समय था, आज भी उतनी ही ताकत है.

but I'm still as strong today as when Moses sent me out. I'm as strong and ready for battle or for whatever may come as I was then.

12 तब मुझे याहवेह के उस दिन दिए गए वचन के अनुसार यह देश दे दीजिए, क्योंकि आपको मालूम था कि वहां अनाकियों के लोग रहते थे. यह बहुत बड़ा भी हैं. यदि याहवेह मेरे साथ रहेंगे तो मैं उनकी प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार उन अनाकियों को निकाल भगाऊंगा.”

So give me the hill country that the Lord spoke about. You heard at that time about the descendants of Anak who lived there in large, fortified towns. If the Lord is with me I will drive them out as the Lord promised.”

13 यहोशू ने येफुन्‍नेह के पुत्र कालेब के लिए आशीष की बातें कहीं और उसे हिस्से में हेब्रोन दे दिया.

So Joshua blessed Caleb and granted him ownership of Hebron.

14 इस प्रकार आज तक हेब्रोन येफुन्‍नेह कालेब का भाग है, क्योंकि उसने पूरे मन से याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर को माना था.

So Hebron belonged to Caleb, son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, from that day to this because he had faithfully followed the Lord, the God of Israel.

15 हेब्रोन इससे पहले किरयथ-अरबा के नाम से जाना जाता था, क्योंकि अनाकियों में सबसे अधिक शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति का नाम अरबा था. इसके बाद सारे देश में लड़ाई की स्थिति थम गई.

(Hebron was formerly called Kiriath-arba, named after a great leader of the descendants of Anak.) And the land was at peace.
