योना 1

1 याहवेह का यह वचन अमितै के पुत्र योनाह के पास पहुंचा:

The worde of the Lord came also vnto Ionah the sonne of Amittai, saying,

2 “उठो और उस महानगर नीनवेह को जाओ और उसके निवासियों के विरुद्ध घोषणा करो, क्योंकि उनकी दुष्टता मेरी दृष्टि में आ गई है.”

Arise, and goe to Nineueh, that great citie, and crye against it: for their wickednesse is come vp before mee.

3 पर योनाह याहवेह की उपस्थिति से भागने के उद्देश्य से तरशीश जाने के लिए योप्पा जा पहुंचा. वहां उसे एक पानी जहाज़ मिला, जो तरशीश जाने पर था. किराया देने के बाद, वह पानी जहाज़ में चढ़ गया कि वह याहवेह की उपस्थिति से भागकर वह दूसरे यात्रियों के साथ तर्शीश पहुंच सके.

But Ionah rose vp to flee into Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went downe to Iapho: and he founde a ship going to Tarshish: so he payed the fare thereof, and went downe into it, that he might go with them vnto Tarshish, from the presence of the Lord.

4 तब याहवेह ने समुद्र पर एक प्रचंड आंधी चलाई, और सतह पर ऐसा भयंकर तूफान उठा कि पानी जहाज़ के टूटने की स्थिति उत्पन्‍न हो गई.

But the Lord sent out a great winde into the sea, and there was a mightie tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

5 सब नाविक भयभीत हो गए और हर एक अपने-अपने देवता को पुकारने लगा. और वे पानी जहाज़ में लदी हुई सामग्री को समुद्र में फेंकने लगे ताकि जहाज़ का बोझ कम हो जाए. किंतु इस समय योनाह जहाज़ के निचले भाग में जाकर गहरी नींद में पड़ा हुआ था.

Then the mariners were afraide, and cryed euery man vnto his God, and cast the wares that were in the ship, into the sea to lighten it of the: but Ionah was gone downe into the sides of the ship, and he lay downe, and was fast a sleepe.

6 जहाज़ का कप्‍तान उसके पास गया और उसे जगाकर कहा, “तुम ऐसी स्थिति में कैसे सो सकते हो? उठो और अपने ईश्वर को पुकारो! संभव है कि तुम्हारा ईश्वर हम पर कृपा करे और हम नाश होने से बच जाएं.”

So the shipmaster came to him, and saide vnto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call vpon thy God, if so be that God wil thinke vpon vs, that we perish not.

7 तब नाविकों ने एक दूसरे को कहा, “ऐसा करें, हम चिट्ठी डालकर यह पता करें कि किसके कारण हम पर यह विपत्ति आई है.” तब उन्होंने चिट्ठी डाली और चिट्ठी योनाह के नाम पर निकली.

And they saide euery one to his fellowe, Come, and let vs cast lottes, that we may know, for whose cause this euill is vpon vs. So they cast lottes, and the lot fell vpon Ionah.

8 इस पर उन्होंने योनाह से पूछा, “हमें बता कि हम पर यह विपत्ति किसके कारण आई है? तू क्या काम करता है? तू कहां से आ रहा है? तू किस देश और किस जाति का है?”

Then said they vnto him, Tell vs for whose cause this euill is vpon vs? what is thine occupation? and whence commest thou? which is thy countrey? and of what people art thou?

9 योनाह ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “मैं एक इब्री हूं और मैं उस याहवेह, स्वर्ग के परमेश्वर की आराधना करता हूं, जिन्होंने समुद्र तथा भूमि की सृष्टि की है.”

And he answered them, I am an Ebrewe, and I feare the Lord God of heauen, which hath made the sea, and the dry lande.

10 यह सुनकर वे भयभीत हो गए और उन्होंने योनाह से कहा, “तुमने यह क्या कर डाला?” (क्योंकि योनाह उन्हें यह बता चुका था कि वह याहवेह की उपस्थिति से भाग रहा था.)

Then were the men exceedingly afrayde, and said vnto him, Why hast thou done this? (for the men knewe, that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had tolde them)

11 इस पर उन्होंने योनाह से पूछा, “अब हम तुम्हारे साथ क्या करें कि हमारे लिये समुद्र शांत हो जाए?” क्योंकि समुद्र की लहरें और भी उग्र होती जा रही थी.

Then saide they vnto him, What shall we doe vnto thee, that the sea may be calme vnto vs? (for the sea wrought and was troublous)

12 योनाह ने कहा, “मुझे उठाकर समुद्र में फेंक दें. तब समुद्र शांत हो जाएगा. क्योंकि मैं जानता हूं कि तुम्हारे ऊपर यह बड़ा तूफान मेरे ही कारण आया है.”

And he said vnto them, Take me, and cast me into the sea: so shall the sea be calme vnto you: for I knowe that for my sake this great tempest is vpon you.

13 फिर भी, नाविकों ने जहाज़ को तट तक ले जाने की बहुत कोशिश की. पर वे सफल न हुए, क्योंकि समुद्र पहले से और उग्र होता जा रहा था.

Neuerthelesse, the men rowed to bring it to the lande, but they coulde not: for the sea wrought, and was troublous against them.

14 तब उन्होंने ऊंचे स्वर में याहवेह को यह कहकर पुकारा, “हे याहवेह, इस व्यक्ति का प्राण लेने के कारण, कृपया हमें नाश न होने दें. हमें एक निर्दोष को मारने का दोषी न ठहराएं, क्योंकि आपने वही किया है, जो आपको अच्छा लगा.”

Wherefore they cryed vnto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let vs not perish for this mans life, and lay not vpon vs innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done, as it pleased thee.

15 तब उन्होंने योनाह को उठाकर समुद्र में फेंक दिया और उग्र समुद्र शांत हो गया.

So they tooke vp Ionah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from her raging.

16 इससे उन व्यक्तियों ने याहवेह का बहुत भय माना, और उन्होंने याहवेह के लिए एक बलि चढ़ाई और मन्‍नतें मानीं.

Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice vnto the Lord, and made vowes.

17 याहवेह ने एक विशाल मछली ठहरायी थी, जिसने योनाह को निगल लिया, और योनाह उस मछली के पेट में तीन दिन और तीन रात रहा.

Nowe the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallowe vp Ionah: and Ionah was in the belly of the fish three dayes, and three nightes.
