योना 3
1 तब याहवेह का वचन योनाह के पास दूसरी बार पहुंचा:
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
2 “उठो और उस बड़े शहर नीनवेह को जाओ और वहां उस संदेश की घोषणा करो जिसे मैं तुम्हें देनेवाला हूं.”
“Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message that I give you.”
3 तब योनाह उठकर याहवेह की आज्ञा के अनुसार नीनवेह को गया. नीनवेह एक बड़ा शहर था; जिससे होकर जाने में तीन दिन लग जाते थे.
This time Jonah got up and went to Nineveh, in accordance with the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, requiring a three-day journey.
4 योनाह ने नगर में प्रवेश किया और अपने पहले दिन की यात्रा में यह घोषणा करते गया, “अब से चालीस दिन के बाद नीनवेह को ध्वस्त कर दिया जाएगा.”
On the first day of his journey, Jonah set out into the city and proclaimed, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned!”
5 नीनवेह के लोगों ने परमेश्वर में विश्वास किया. उपवास रखने की घोषणा की गई और साधारण से लेकर बड़े, सब लोगों ने टाट (शोक-वस्त्र) पहना.
And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
6 जब नीनवेह के राजा तक योनाह का समाचार पहुंचा, तो वह अपने सिंहासन से उठा, और अपने राजसी वस्त्र को उतारकर टाट को ओढ़ लिया और जाकर राख में बैठ गया.
When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 उसने नीनवेह में यह घोषणा करवायी: “राजा और सामन्तों के फैसले के अनुसार: “कोई भी मनुष्य या पशु, गाय-बैल या भेड़-बकरी कुछ भी न खाय; उन्हें कुछ भी खाने या पीने न दिया जाय.
Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let no man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink.
8 पर मनुष्य और पशु टाट ओढ़ें. हर एक जन तुरंत परमेश्वर की दोहाई दे और वे अपनी बुरे कामों तथा हिंसा के कार्यों को छोड़ दें.
Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and have everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
9 संभव है कि परमेश्वर अपने निर्णय को बदल दें और दया करके हम पर क्रोध न करें और हम नाश होने से बच जाएं.”
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
10 जब परमेश्वर ने उनके काम को देखा कि कैसे वे अपने बुरे कार्यों से फिर गये हैं, तो उन्होंने अपनी इच्छा बदल दी और उनके ऊपर वह विनाश नहीं लाया जिसका निर्णय उन्होंने लिया था.
When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.
