अय्यूब 14
1 “स्त्री से जन्मे मनुष्य का जीवन, अल्पकालिक एवं दुःख भरा होता है.
Man that is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble:
2 उस पुष्प समान, जो खिलता है तथा मुरझा जाता है; वह तो छाया-समान द्रुत गति से विलीन हो जाता तथा अस्तित्वहीन रह जाता है.
As a flower, he cometh forth—and fadeth, He fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 क्या इस प्रकार का प्राणी इस योग्य है कि आप उस पर दृष्टि बनाए रखें तथा उसका न्याय करने के लिए उसे अपनी उपस्थिति में आने दें?
And yet upon such a one as this, hast thou opened thine eye? And, him, wouldst thou bring into judgment with thee?
4 अशुद्ध में से किसी शुद्ध वस्तु की सृष्टि कौन कर सकता है? कोई भी इस योग्य नहीं है!
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one!
5 इसलिये कि मनुष्य का जीवन सीमित है; उसके जीवन के माह आपने नियत कर रखे हैं. साथ आपने उसकी सीमाएं निर्धारित कर दी हैं, कि वह इनके पार न जा सके.
If determined am his days, the number of his months, is with thee, Fixed times for him, thou hast appointed and he cannot go beyond.
6 जब तक वह वैतनिक मज़दूर समान अपना समय पूर्ण करता है उस पर से अपनी दृष्टि हटा लीजिए, कि उसे विश्राम प्राप्त हो सके.
Look sway from him, that he may rest, Till he shall pay off, as a hireling, his day.
7 “वृक्ष के लिए तो सदैव आशा बनी रहती है: जब उसे काटा जाता है, उसके तने से अंकुर निकल आते हैं. उसकी डालियां विकसित हो जाती हैं.
Though there is—for a tree—hope, —if it should be cut down, that, again, it will grow, and, the tender branch thereof, will not cease;
8 यद्यपि भूमि के भीतर इसकी मूल जीर्ण होती जाती है तथा भूमि में इसका ठूंठ नष्ट हो जाता है,
If its root, should become old in the earth, and, in the dust, its stock should die:
9 जल की गंध प्राप्त होते ही यह खिलने लगता है तथा पौधे के समान यह अपनी शाखाएं फैलाने लगता है.
Through the scent of water, it may break forth, and produce branches like a sapling,
10 किंतु मनुष्य है कि, मृत्यु होने पर वह पड़ा रह जाता है; उसका श्वास समाप्त हुआ, कि वह अस्तित्वहीन रह जाता है.
Yet, man, dieth, and is prostrate, Yea the son of earth doth cease to breathe, and where is he?
11 जैसे सागर का जल सूखते रहता है तथा नदी धूप से सूख जाती है,
Waters, have failed from, the sea, and, a river, may waste and dry up;
12 उसी प्रकार मनुष्य, मृत्यु में पड़ा हुआ लेटा रह जाता है; आकाश के अस्तित्वहीन होने तक उसकी स्थिति यही रहेगी, उसे इस गहरी नींद से जगाया जाना असंभव है.
So, a man, hath lain down, and shall not arise, until there are no heavens, they shall not awake, nor be roused up out of their sleep.
13 “उत्तम तो यही होता कि आप मुझे अधोलोक में छिपा देते, आप मुझे अपने कोप के ठंडा होने तक छिपाए रहते! आप एक अवधि निश्चित करके इसके पूर्ण हो जाने पर मेरा स्मरण करते! (Sheol h7585)
Oh that, in hades, thou wouldst hide me! that thou wouldst keep me secret, until the turn of thine anger, that thou wouldst set for me a fixed time, and remember me: (Sheol h7585)
14 क्या मनुष्य के लिए यह संभव है कि उसकी मृत्यु के बाद वह जीवित हो जाए? अपने जीवन के समस्त श्रमपूर्ण वर्षों में मैं यही प्रतीक्षा करता रह जाऊंगा. कब होगा वह नवोदय?
If a man die, can he live again? All the days of my warfare, would I wait, until my relief should come: —
15 आप आह्वान करो, तो मैं उत्तर दूंगा; आप अपने उस बनाए गये प्राणी की लालसा करेंगे.
Thou shouldst call, and, I, would answer thee, —For the work of thine own hand, thou shouldst long.
16 तब आप मेरे पैरों का लेख रखेंगे किंतु मेरे पापों का नहीं.
For, now, my steps, thou countest, Thou wilt not pass over my sin:
17 मेरे अपराध को एक थैली में मोहरबन्द कर दिया जाएगा; आप मेरे पापों को ढांप देंगे.
Sealed up in a bag, is my transgression, and thou hast glued over mine iniquity.
18 “जैसे पर्वत नष्ट होते-होते वह चूर-चूर हो जाता है, चट्टान अपने स्थान से हट जाती है.
But, in very deed, a mountain falling, will lie prostrate, or, a rock moved out of its place:
19 जल में भी पत्थरों को काटने की क्षमता होती है, तीव्र जल प्रवाह पृथ्वी की धूल साथ ले जाते हैं, आप भी मनुष्य की आशा के साथ यही करते हैं.
Stones, have been hollowed out by waters, the floods thereof wash away the dust of the earth, and, the hope of mortal man, thou hast destroyed:
20 एक ही बार आप उसे ऐसा हराते हैं, कि वह मिट जाता है; आप उसका स्वरूप परिवर्तित कर देते हैं और उसे निकाल देते हैं.
Thou dost overpower him utterly, and he departeth, Disfiguring his face, so, hast thou sent him away.
21 यदि उसकी संतान सम्मानित होती है, उसे तो इसका ज्ञान नहीं होता; अथवा जब वे अपमानित किए जाते हैं, वे इससे अनजान ही रहते हैं.
His sons, come to honour, and he knoweth it not, Or they are brought low, and he perceiveth it not of them.
22 जब तक वह देह में होता है, पीड़ा का अनुभव करता है, इसी स्थिति में उसे वेदना का अनुभव होता है.”
But, his flesh, for himself, is in pain, and, his soul, for himself, doth mourn.
