यिर्मयाह 40

1 राज्यपाल गेदालिया के आवास में से अंगरक्षकों के प्रधान नेबुज़रादान ने जब येरेमियाह को येरूशलेम तथा यहूदिया के सारे बंदियों के बीच जंजीरों से बंधा हुआ देखा जिन्हें बाबेल ले जाया जा रहा था, तब उसने उसे रामाह में विमुक्त कर दिया. उस समय याहवेह का संदेश येरेमियाह को प्रगट किया गया.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive to Babylon.

2 अंगरक्षकों के प्रधान ने येरेमियाह को अलग ले जाकर कहा, “याहवेह, आपके ही परमेश्वर ने इस स्थान के विरुद्ध यह घोर विपत्ति योजित की थी.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, The LORD your God has pronounced this evil on this place.

3 अब याहवेह ने जैसी पूर्ववाणी की थी; उसे ही बनाकर दिखाया है. क्योंकि आप लोगों ने ही तो याहवेह के विरुद्ध पाप किया है, आप लोगों ने उनके आदेशों का पालन नहीं किया, इसलिये आप पर यह विपत्ति टूट पड़ी है.

Now the LORD has brought it, and done according as he has said: because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come on you.

4 किंतु अब देखिए, आज मैं आपको आपके हाथों में पड़ी हुई इन बेड़ियों से विमुक्त कर रहा हूं, यदि आपको उपयुक्त लगे, आप मेरे साथ बाबेल चल सकते हैं, आपकी देखभाल का दायित्व मेरा होगा; किंतु यदि आप मेरे साथ बाबेल चलना उपयुक्त न समझें तो, आपकी इच्छा, आपके समक्ष संपूर्ण देश खुला पड़ा है; आपको जो स्थान अनुकूल लगे वहीं चले जाइए.”

And now, behold, I loose you this day from the chains which were on your hand. If it seem good to you to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well to you: but if it seem ill to you to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before you: where it seems good and convenient for you to go, thither go.

5 इसलिये कि येरेमियाह वहां अनिश्चय की स्थिति में ही ठहरे हुए थे, नेबुज़रादान ने उनसे कहा, “अच्छा, तो आप शापान के पौत्र अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह के पास लौट जाइए, जिसे बाबेल के राजा ने यहूदिया के नगरों पर राज्यपाल नियुक्त किया है, आप गेदालियाह के यहां अपने ही लोगों के मध्य निवास कीजिए. यदि नहीं, तो आपको जहां कहीं उपयुक्त लगे वहीं चले जाइए.” इसके बाद अंगरक्षकों के प्रधान ने येरेमियाह को कुछ अन्‍न पदार्थ तथा एक उपहार देकर उन्हें विदा किया.

Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wherever it seems convenient to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

6 येरेमियाह वहां से मिज़पाह में अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह के यहां जाकर उस देश में शेष रह गए लोगों के मध्य निवास करने लगे.

Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelled with him among the people that were left in the land.

7 जब युद्ध क्षेत्र में सारे सेनापतियों तथा सैनिकों को यह सूचना प्राप्‍त हुई कि बाबेल के राजा ने अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह को संपूर्ण देश तथा उन पुरुषों, स्त्रियों तथा बालकों पर, जो देश में गरीब थे तथा जो बाबेल में बंदी नहीं किए गए थे, अधिपति नियुक्त कर दिया है,

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

8 वे मिज़पाह में गेदालियाह से भेंट करने आ गए. उनके साथ थे नेथनियाह का पुत्र इशमाएल, कोरियाह के पुत्र योहानन तथा योनातन, तनहूमेथ का पुत्र सेराइयाह, नेतोफ़ातवासी एफाई के पुत्र, माकाहथिवासी का पुत्र येत्सानियाह, दोनों ही तथा उनकी सैनिक टुकड़ी.

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

9 यह सब देखते हुए शापान के पौत्र, अहीकाम के पुत्र, गेदालियाह ने उनके तथा सैनिकों के समक्ष यह कहते हुए शपथ ली: “कसदियों की सेवा करने का विचार तुम्हें भयभीत न करे, इसी देश में निवास करते हुए बाबेल के राजा की सेवा करते रहो, कि तुम्हारा हित हो.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 मैं तो मिज़पाह में ही रहूंगा, कि मैं तुम्हारी सहायता में खड़ा रह सकूं, कि मैं उन कसदियों के लिए तुम्हारा प्रवक्ता हो सकूं जो अपना प्रतिवाद लेकर मेरे पास आए थे, किंतु तुम द्राक्षारस, ग्रीष्मकालीन फल एवं तेल का संग्रहण करते रहना, उन्हें भंडारण बर्तनों में रख देना, अपने-अपने नगरों में निवास करना, जिन्हें अब तुमने अपना लिया है.”

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come to us: but you, gather you wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.

11 इसी प्रकार वे सभी यहूदियों ने जो इस समय मोआब, अम्मोन, एदोम तथा अन्य देशों में निवास करने लगे थे, यह सुना कि बाबेल के राजा ने यहूदिया में कुछ लोगों को छोड़ दिया है, तथा यह, कि उसने उन पर शापान के पौत्र, अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह को अधिपति नियुक्त कर दिया है,

Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

12 तब सभी स्थानों से सारे यहूदी लौटकर आने लगे, जहां उन्हें खदेड़ दिया गया था, वे यहूदिया देश में आए तथा मिज़पाह में गेदालियाह से भेंट करने गए. उन्होंने बड़ी मात्रा में द्राक्षारस एवं ग्रीष्मकालीन फलों का भंडारण कर डाला.

Even all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

13 तब कोरियाह का पुत्र योहानन तथा रणभूमि में सैनिकों के सारे सेनापति मिज़पाह में गेदालियाह से भेंट करने आए.

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 उन्होंने उससे कहा, “क्या आपको यह संज्ञान है कि अम्मोन के वंशजों के राजा बालिस ने नेथनियाह के पुत्र इशमाएल को आपकी हत्या के उद्देश्य से भेजा है?” किंतु अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह ने उनका विश्वास ही नहीं किया.

And said to him, Do you certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay you? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

15 तब कोरियाह के पुत्र योहानन ने मिज़पाह में अकेले में जाकर गेदालियाह के समक्ष यह प्रस्ताव रखा, “मुझे अनुमति दीजिए, कि मैं जाकर नेथनियाह के पुत्र इशमाएल का वध कर दूं. किसी को भी इसके विषय में ज्ञात न हो सकेगा, हम क्यों उसे आपकी हत्या का अवसर दें? अन्यथा आपकी शरण में आए ये सारे यहूदी पुनः बिखर जाएंगे तथा यहूदिया का बचा हुआ शेष नष्ट हो जाएगा?”

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly saying, Let me go, I pray you, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he slay you, that all the Jews which are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

16 किंतु अहीकाम के पुत्र गेदालियाह ने उससे कहा, “इशमाएल के विषय में तुम्हारा यह वचन असत्य है! मत करो उसकी हत्या.”

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing: for you speak falsely of Ishmael.
