यिर्मयाह 20

1 जब याहवेह के भवन के प्रमुख अधिकारी, इम्मर के पुत्र पुरोहित पशहूर ने येरेमियाह को इन विषयों पर भविष्यवाणी करते हुए सुना,

Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who [was] also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

2 तब उसने भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह को पिटवाया तथा ऊपरी बिन्यामिन द्वार में उन्हें काठ के बांक में जकड़ दिया, यह याहवेह के भवन के निकट ही था.

Then Pashur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that [were] in the high gate of Benjamin, which [was] by the house of the LORD.

3 अगले दिन, जब पशहूर ने उन्हें बांक से विमुक्त किया, येरेमियाह ने उससे कहा, “याहवेह द्वारा तुम्हें दिया गया नाम पशहूर नहीं, बल्कि मागोर-मिस्साबीब है.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah to him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.

4 क्योंकि याहवेह का संदेश यह है: ‘तुम यह देखोगे कि मैं तुम्हें स्वयं के लिए तथा तुम्हारे सारे मित्रों के लिए आतंक बना देने पर हूं; तुम्हारे देखते-देखते वे अपने शत्रुओं की तलवार से वध किए जाएंगे. तब मैं सारे यहूदिया को बाबेल के राजा के हाथों में सौंप दूंगा, वह उन्हें बंदी बनाकर बाबेल ले जाएगा तथा तलवार से उनका संहार कर देगा.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thy eyes shall behold [it]: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

5 मैं इस नगर की सारी धन संपदा इसकी सारी उपज एवं इसकी सारी मूल्यवान सामग्री उसे सौंप दूंगा—यहां तक कि यहूदिया के राजाओं की सारी निधि मैं उनके शत्रुओं के हाथों में सौंप दूंगा. वे उन्हें लूट लेंगे, उन्हें बंदी बना लेंगे तथा उन्हें बाबेल ले जाएंगे.

Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all its labors, and all its precious things, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, who shall pillage them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

6 और तुम, पशहूर, तथा वे सभी जो तुम्हारे आवास में निवास कर रहे हैं, बंधुआई में ले जाए जाएंगे, तुम बाबेल में प्रवेश करोगे. और वहीं तुम्हारी मृत्यु हो जाएगी वहीं तुम्हें गाड़ा जाएगा, तुम्हें तथा तुम्हारे उन सभी मित्रों को जिनके लिए तुमने झूठी भविष्यवाणी की थी.’”

And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.

7 याहवेह, आपने मुझे प्रलोभित किया, कि मैं प्रलोभित हो गया; आपने मुझे गुमराह किया और आप मुझ पर प्रबल भी हो गए. सारे दिन मैं उपहास का बर्तन बना रहता हूं; सभी मेरा उपहास करते रहते हैं.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

8 जब भी मैं कुछ कहना चाहता हूं, मैं उच्च स्वर में रोने लगता हूं; मेरी वाणी के विषय रह गए हैं हिंसा एवं विध्वंस. क्योंकि मेरे संदर्भ में याहवेह के संदेश का परिणाम हुआ है सतत निंदा एवं फटकार.

For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

9 किंतु यदि मैं यह निश्चय करूं, “अब मैं याहवेह का उल्लेख ही नहीं करूंगा अथवा अब मैं उनकी ओर से कोई भी संदेश भेजा न करूंगा,” तब आपका संदेश मेरे हृदय में प्रज्वलित अग्नि का रूप ले लेता है, वह प्रज्वलित अग्नि जो मेरी अस्थियों में बंद है. अब यह मेरे लिए असह्य हो रही है; इसे दूर रखते-रखते मैं व्यर्थ हो चुका हूं.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But [his word] was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not [stay].

10 मैंने अनेकों को दबे स्वर में यह कहते सुना है, “चारों ओर आतंक व्याप्‍त हो चुका है! फटकार करो उनकी! निःसंदेह हमें उनकी फटकार करनी ही होगी!” ये मेरे विश्वास्य मित्रों के शब्द हैं जिन्हें मेरे पतन में रुचि है. वे विचार कर रहे हैं, “संभव है वह फंदे में फंस जाए; और हम उसे अपने वश में कर लें तथा उससे अपना बदला ले लें.”

For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, [say they], and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, [saying], Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

11 किंतु याहवेह मेरे साथ शक्तिवान योद्धा के सदृश हैं जिसका आतंक चारों ओर व्याप्‍त है; इसलिये मेरे उत्पीड़क मुझ पर प्रबल न होंगे बल्कि लड़खड़ा जाएंगे. अपनी विफलता पर उन्हें घोर लज्जा का सामना करना पड़ेगा यह ऐसी चिरस्थायी लज्जा होगी; जिसे भूलना पसंद करना संभव न होगा.

But the LORD [is] with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: [their] everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

12 फिर भी सेनाओं के याहवेह, आप तो सद्‍वृत्त की विवेचना करते रहते हैं, आपकी दृष्टि मन एवं हृदय का आंकलन करती रहती है, कुछ ऐसा कीजिए कि मैं आपके द्वारा उनसे लिए गए बदले का प्रत्यक्षदर्शी हो जाऊं, क्योंकि अपना मुकदमा मैंने आपको ही सौंप रखा है.

But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, [and] seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for to thee have I opened my cause.

13 याहवेह के लिए गायन हो! याहवेह का स्तवन हो! क्योंकि उन्होंने निस्सहाय के प्राणों को बुरे बंधन से उद्धार प्रदान किया है.

Sing to the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evil-doers.

14 शापित हो वह दिन जिसमें मैंने जन्म लिया! जिस दिन मेरी माता ने मुझे जन्म दिया, उसे धन्य न कहा जाए!

Cursed [be] the day in which I was born: let not the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.

15 शापित हो वह व्यक्ति जिसने मेरे पिता को अत्यंत हर्षित कर दिया, जब उसने उन्हें यह संदेश दिया, “आपका एक पुत्र पैदा हुआ है!”

Cursed [be] the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A male child is born to thee; making him very glad.

16 उस संदेशवाहक की नियति वही हो जो उन नगरों की हुई थी, जिन्हें याहवेह ने निर्ममता से नष्ट कर दिया था. उसे प्रातःकाल से ही पीड़ा की कराहट सुनाई देने लगी, तथा दोपहर में युद्ध की चेतावनी की वाणी.

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noon;

17 क्योंकि मेरे जन्म के पूर्व ही मेरी जीवन लीला उसने समाप्‍त नहीं कर दी, कि मेरी माता ही मेरी कब्र हो जाती, और मेरी माता स्थायी रूप से गर्भवती रह जाती.

Because he slew me not at my birth; or that my mother might have been my grave, and she had not been delivered.

18 मैं गर्भ से बाहर ही क्यों आ गया कि संकट और शोक देखूं, कि मेरे जीवन के दिन लज्जा में जिए जाएं?

Why was I brought into the world to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
