यिर्मयाह 18
1 वह संदेश जो याहवेह द्वारा येरेमियाह के लिए प्रगट किया गया:
The word that came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying:
2 “कुम्हार के घर जाओ, वहीं मैं तुम पर अपनी बातें प्रकाशित करूंगा.”
Arise and go down to the house of the potter, —and, there, will I cause thee to hear my words.
3 मैं कुम्हार के आवास पर गया, जहां वह अपने चक्र पर कुछ गढ़ रहा था.
So I went down, to the house of the potter, —and there he was! making a piece of work on the wheels,
4 किंतु वह बर्तन, जिसे वह मिट्टी से बना रहा था, वह उसके हाथों में ही विकृत हो गया; इसलिये उसने उसी से जैसा उसे उपयुक्त लगा, एक अन्य बर्तन का निर्माण कर दिया.
Then was marred, the vessel that he was making, while yet it was clay in the hand of the potter, —so he turned and made of it another vessel, as seemed right in the eyes of the potter to make it.
5 तब याहवेह ने अपना संदेश मुझे इस प्रकार प्रगट किया.
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying:
6 “इस्राएल वंशजों, क्या तुम्हारे साथ मैं भी वही नहीं कर सकता, जो यह कुम्हार किया करता है?” यह याहवेह की वाणी है. “यह समझ लो इस्राएल वंशजों: मेरे हाथों में तुम्हारी स्थिति ठीक वैसी ही है, जैसी कुम्हार के हाथों में उस मिट्टी की होती है.
Like this potter, can I not deal with you O house of Israel? Demandeth Yahweh: Lo! as clay in the hand of the potter, So, are, ye, in my hand O house of Israel.
7 यह संभव है कि मैं एक क्षण किसी राष्ट्र अथवा किसी राज्य के अंत, पतन अथवा विध्वंस की वाणी करूं.
The moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, —to pull up and to break down, and to destroy;
8 किंतु वह राष्ट्र, जिसके संबंध में मैंने विध्वंस की वाणी की थी, यदि अपने कुकृत्यों से विमुख हो जाता है ओर मैं उसके विरुद्ध योजित विध्वंस का विचार ही त्याग दूं.
and that nation return from its wickedness against whom I have spoken, then will I repent concerning the calamity which I had devised to bring upon it.
9 अथवा दूसरे क्षण में किसी राष्ट्र, किसी राज्य के विषय में उसके निर्माण अथवा रोपण का विचार व्यक्त करूं,
And, the moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, —to build and to plant;
10 यदि वह राष्ट्र अथवा राज्य मेरे आदेश की अवज्ञा करते हुए मेरी दृष्टि में बुरा करता है, तब मैं उसके कल्याण के लिए की गई अपनी प्रतिज्ञा पर पुनर्विचार करूंगा.
and it commit wickedness in mine eyes, in not hearkening unto my voice, then will I repent concerning the good wherewith I had said I would do it good.
11 “इसलिये अब जाकर यहूदिया तथा येरूशलेम के निवासियों से जाकर यह कहना, ‘याहवेह का संदेश यह है: यह समझ लो! मैं तुम्हारे विरुद्ध घोर विपत्ति नियोजित कर रहा हूं और तुम्हारे विरुद्ध एक योजना बना रहा हूं. ओह! तुममें से हर एक अपनी बुराई का परित्याग कर मेरे निकट लौट आए, अपनी जीवनशैली एवं आचरण को परिशुद्ध कर ले.’
Now, therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the men of Judah and concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, —Lo! I am fashioning against you calamity, and devising against you, a device, —Return I pray you every man from his wicked way, And amend your ways and your doings.
12 किंतु उनका प्रत्युत्तर होगा, ‘इससे कोई भी लाभ न होगा. क्योंकि हमने अपनी रणनीति पहले ही निर्धारित कर ली है; हममें से हर एक अपने बुरे हृदय की कठोरता के ही अनुरूप कदम उठाएगा.’”
And, since they will say, Hopeless! For after our own devices, will we walk, And, every one, the stubbornness of his own wicked heart, will we do!
13 इसलिये याहवेह का आदेश यह है: “अब राष्ट्रों के मध्य जाकर यह पूछताछ करो: क्या कभी किसी ने भी इस प्रकार की घटना के विषय में सुना है? कुंवारी कन्या इस्राएल ने अत्यंत भयावह कार्य किया है.
Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh, Ask I pray you among the nations, —Who hath heard such things as these? A very horrible thing, hath, the virgin, Israel done!
14 क्या लबानोन का हिम खुले मैदान की चट्टान से विलीन हो जाता है? अथवा अन्य देश से प्रवाहित शीतल जल कभी छीना जा सका है?
Shall the snow of Lebanon, fail from the rock of the field? Or shall waters from afar, deep, overflowing, be dried up?
15 किंतु मेरी प्रजा है कि उसने मुझे भूलना पसंद कर दिया है; वे निस्सार देवताओं के लिए धूप जलाते हैं, तथा वे पूर्व मार्गों पर चलते हुए लड़खड़ा गए हैं. वे मुख्य मार्ग पर न चलकर कदमडंडी पर चलने लगें.
Yet my people have forgotten me, Unto vanity, have they been burning incense; And it hath caused them to stumble In their ways The roads of age-past times, To walk in by-paths—A way not cast up.
16 कि उनका देश निर्जन हो जाए चिरस्थायी घृणा का विषय; हर एक जो वहां से निकलेगा चकित हो जाएगा और आश्चर्य में सिर हिलाएगा.
To make their land a desolation The hissings of age-abiding times, —Every one that passeth by her, shall be astonished and wag his head.
17 मैं उन्हें शत्रु के समक्ष पूर्वी वायु प्रवाह-सदृश बिखरा दूंगा; मैं उनके संकट के समय उनके समक्ष अपनी पीठ कर दूंगा न कि अपना मुखमंडल.”
Like an east wind, will I scatter them before the enemy, —The back and not the face, will I let them see in the day of their distress.
18 तब कुछ लोग विचार-विमर्श करने लगे, “येरेमियाह के विरुद्ध कोई युक्ति गढ़ी जाए; निश्चयतः पुरोहित से तो व्यवस्था-विधान दूर होगा नहीं और न बुद्धिमानों से परामर्श की क्षमता बंद होगी, उसी प्रकार भविष्यवक्ताओं से परमेश्वर का संदेश भी समाप्त नहीं किया जा सकेगा. चलो, हम उस पर वाकबाण चलाएं तथा उसके वचन को अनसुनी कर दें.”
Then said they, —Come ye and let us devise against Jeremiah devices, For the law shall not perish from the priest, Nor, counsel, from the wise, Nor, the word from the prophet: Come and let as smite him with the tongue, And let us not give ear to any of his words!
19 याहवेह, मेरी विनय पर ध्यान दीजिए; तथा मेरे विरोधियों की बातों को सुन लीजिए!
Give thou ear O Yahweh unto me, —And hearken unto the voice of mine accusers.
20 क्या संकट के द्वारा कल्याण का प्रतिफल दिया जा सकता है? उन्होंने तो मेरे लिए गड्ढा खोद रखा है. स्मरण कीजिए मैं आपके समक्ष कैसे ठहरा रहता था और उनकी सहायता में ही मत दिया करता था, कि उनके प्रति आपका क्रोध दूर किया जा सके.
Shall, evil, be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my life, —Remember how I stood before thee To speak in their behalf what was good! To turn back thine indignation from them.
21 इसलिये अब उनकी संतान को अकाल को सौंप दीजिए; तथा उन्हें तलवार की शक्ति के अधीन कर दीजिए. उनकी पत्नियों को संतानहीन तथा विधवा हो जाने दीजिए; उनके पतियों को मृत्यु का आहार हो जाने दीजिए, उनके लड़के युद्ध में तलवार के ग्रसित हो जाएं.
Therefore, give thou up their sons to the famine And deliver them into the hands of the sword, And let their, wives, become, childless and widows, And let, their men, be slain by death, Their young men be smitten by the sword in battle.
22 जब आप उन पर लुटेरों का आक्रमण होने दें, तब उनके आवासों से चिल्लाहट सुनाई पड़े, क्योंकि मुझे पकड़ने के लिए उन्होंने मेरे लिए गड्ढा खोद रखा है, और उन्होंने मेरे मार्ग में फंदे बिछा रखे हैं.
Let there be heard a cry out of their houses, When thou shalt bring in upon them a troop, suddenly, —Because they digged a pit to capture me, And snares, did they hide for my feet.
23 फिर भी, याहवेह, मेरे समक्ष उनकी घातक युक्तियां आपको ज्ञात हैं. उनकी पापिष्ठता को क्षमा न कीजिए और न उनके पाप आपकी दृष्टि से ओझल हों. आपके ही समक्ष वे नष्ट हो जाएं; जब आप क्रुद्ध हों तब आप उनके लिए उपयुक्त कदम उठाएं.
But, thou, O Yahweh, knowest all their counsels against me to put me to death, Put thou no propitiatory-covering over their iniquity, And their sin from before thee, do not thou blot out, —But let them be overthrown before thee, In the time of thine anger, deal thou effectively with them.
