याकूब 4
1 तुम्हारे बीच लड़ाई व झगड़े का कारण क्या है? क्या तुम्हारे सुख-विलास ही नहीं, जो तुम्हारे अंगों से लड़ते रहते हैं?
Whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence? even of your carnal appetites making war in your bodies?
2 तुम इच्छा तो करते हो किंतु प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते इसलिये हत्या कर देते हो. जलन के कारण तुम लड़ाई व झगड़े करते हो क्योंकि तुम प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते. तुम्हें प्राप्त नहीं होता क्योंकि तुम मांगते नहीं.
Ye desire, and ye have not: ye are envious, and jealous, and cannot obtain: ye fight and contend; but ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 तुम मांगते हो फिर भी तुम्हें प्राप्त नहीं होता क्योंकि मांगने के पीछे तुम्हारा उद्देश्य ही बुरी इच्छा से होता है—कि तुम उसे भोग विलास में उड़ा दो.
Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask wickedly; that ye may spend it in your pleasures.
4 अरे विश्वासघातियो! क्या तुम्हें यह मालूम नहीं कि संसार से मित्रता परमेश्वर से शत्रुता है? इसलिये उसने, जो संसार की मित्रता से बंधा हुआ है, अपने आपको परमेश्वर का शत्रु बना लिया है.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity to God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
5 कहीं तुम यह तो नहीं सोच रहे कि पवित्र शास्त्र का यह कथन अर्थहीन है: वह आत्मा, जिसको उन्होंने हमारे भीतर बसाया है, बड़ी लालसा से हमारे लिए कामना करते हैं?
Do ye think the scripture speaks in vain? or does the Spirit that dwelleth in us, excite to envy?
6 वह और अधिक अनुग्रह देते हैं, इसलिये लिखा है: “परमेश्वर घमंडियों के विरुद्ध रहते और दीनों को अनुग्रह देते हैं.”
No, He giveth more grace: wherefore it is said, God resisteth the proud, but sheweth favor to the humble.
7 इसलिये परमेश्वर के अधीन रहो, शैतान का विरोध करो तो वह तुम्हारे सामने से भाग खड़ा होगा.
Submit yourselves therefore to God: resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 परमेश्वर के पास आओ तो वह तुम्हारे पास आएंगे. पापियो! अपने हाथ स्वच्छ करो. तुम, जो दुचित्ते हो, अपने हृदय शुद्ध करो.
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you: cleanse your hands, O sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 आंसू बहाते हुए शोक तथा विलाप करो कि तुम्हारी हंसी रोने में तथा तुम्हारा आनंद उदासी में बदल जाए.
Be grieved, and mourn, and weep: let your mirth be turned into mourning, and your joy to sadness.
10 स्वयं को प्रभु के सामने दीन बनाओ तो वह तुमको शिरोमणि करेंगे.
Be humbled before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
11 प्रिय भाई बहनो, एक दूसरे की निंदा मत करो. जो साथी विश्वासी की निंदा करता फिरता या उस पर दोष लगाता फिरता है, वह व्यवस्था का विरोध करता है. यदि तुम व्यवस्था का विरोध करते हो, तुम व्यवस्था के पालन करनेवाले नहीं, सिर्फ उसके आलोचक बन जाते हो.
Speak not against one another, my brethren; he that speaketh against his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law; but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 व्यवस्था देनेवाला और न्यायाध्यक्ष एक ही हैं—वह, जिनमें रक्षा करने का सामर्थ्य है और नाश करने का भी. तुम कौन होते हो जो अपने पड़ोसी पर दोष लगाते हो?
Now there is but one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou then that judgest another?
13 अब तुम, सुनो, जो यह कहते हो, “आज या कल हम किसी और नगर में जाएंगे और वहां एक वर्ष रहकर धन कमाएंगे,”
Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go to such a city, and spend a year there, and trade and get gain;
14 जबकि सच तो यह है कि तुम्हें तो अपने आनेवाले कल के जीवन के विषय में भी कुछ मालूम नहीं है, तुम तो सिर्फ वह भाप हो, जो क्षण-भर के लिए दिखाई देती है और फिर लुप्त हो जाती है. सुनो!
(though ye know not what will be on the morrow; for what is your life? a vapor, which appeareth for a little while, and then vanisheth away: ) whereas ye ought to say,
15 तुम्हारा इस प्रकार कहना सही होगा: “यदि प्रभु की इच्छा हो, तो हम जीवित रहेंगे तथा यह या वह काम करेंगे.”
If the Lord will, and we should live, and do this or that:
16 परंतु तुम अपने अहंकार में घमंड कर रहे हो. यह घमंड पाप से भरा है.
but ye glory in your presumption: all such glorying is wicked.
17 यदि कोई भलाई करना जानते हुए भी उसको न करना पाप है.
To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doth it not, to him it is sin.
