यहेजकेल 18

1 फिर याहवेह का यह वचन मेरे पास आया:

And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:

2 “इस्राएल देश के बारे में इस कहावत का उल्लेख करने के द्वारा तुम लोग क्या कहना चाहते हो: “‘खट्टे अंगूर तो खाए माता-पिताओं ने, किंतु दांत खट्टे हुए बच्चों के’?

What occasion have ye, to be using this proverb, concerning the soil of Israel, saying, —Fathers eat sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are blunted?

3 “मैं अपने जीवन की शपथ खाकर कहता हूं, परम प्रधान याहवेह की घोषणा है, तुम इस्राएल देश में इस कहावत का उल्लेख फिर न करोगे.

As I live, Declareth My Lord, Yahweh, Surely ye shall have occasion no longer to use this proverb, in Israel.

4 हर एक जन मेरा है, माता-पिता के साथ साथ बच्‍चे भी—दोनों एक समान मेरे हैं. इसलिये जो व्यक्ति पाप करता है, वही मरेगा भी.

Lo! as for all persons, mine they are, As the person of the father, so also the person of the son, mine they are, —The person that sinneth, the same shall die.

5 “मान लो एक धर्मी व्यक्ति है, जो वही करता है जो उचित और सही है.

But when, any man, shall be righteous, and do justice and righteousness:

6 वह जो पहाड़ों के पूजा स्थलों पर नहीं खाता है या इस्राएल के मूर्तियों की ओर नहीं देखता है. वह अपने पड़ोसी की पत्नी को भ्रष्‍ट नहीं करता है, या किसी स्त्री के साथ उसके मासिक के समय संभोग नहीं करता है.

Upon the mountains, hath not eaten, And his eyes, hath not lifted up unto the manufactured gods of the house of Israel, And the wife of his neighbour, hath not defiled, And unto a woman during her removal, hath not approached;

7 वह किसी पर अत्याचार नहीं करता है, पर गिरवी रखी गई वस्तु ऋणी को लौटा देता है. वह डाका नहीं डालता है, पर अपना भोजन भूखे को देता है, और नंगे को कपड़ा देता है.

And no man, hath treated with violence, But his debt-pledge, hath restored. Plunder, hath not seized, — His bread—to the famished, hath given, And the naked, hath covered with clothing;

8 वह बिना किसी ब्याज के पैसा उधार देता है, या उनसे लाभ नहीं उठाता है. वह गलत कार्य करने से अपने हाथ को रोके रखता है और दो पक्षों के बीच सही न्याय करता है.

Upon interest, hath not put out his money. And increase, hath not accepted, From dishonesty, hath turned back his hand, — Justice in truth, hath done, between man and man;

9 वह मेरे नियम पर चलता है और विश्वासयोग्यता के साथ मेरे कानूनों का पालन करता है. तो वह व्यक्ति धर्मी है; वह निश्चित रूप से जीवित रहेगा, परम प्रधान याहवेह की घोषणा है.

In my statutes, hath walked. And my regulations, hath observed to do them in truth, Righteous, he is, He shall surely live, Declareth My Lord. Yahweh.

10 “मान लो उस व्यक्ति का एक हिंसक प्रवृत्ति का बेटा है, जो खून-ख़राबा करता है या इनमें से कोई भी काम करता है,

But he hath begotten a son Who is a violent man A shedder of blood, - Who doeth the like of any of these things;

11 (यद्यपि उसके पिता ने इनमें से कोई भी काम नहीं किया है): “वह पहाड़ के पूजा स्थलों पर खाता है. वह अपने पड़ोसी की पत्नी को भ्रष्‍ट करता है.

Whereas he, none of those other things, doeth, For indeed upon the mountains, he hath eaten, And the wife of his neighbour, hath defiled;

12 वह गरीब और ज़रूरतमंद पर अत्याचार करता है. वह डाका डालता है. वह गिरवी रखी गई वस्तु को लौटाता नहीं है. वह मूर्तियों की ओर देखता है. वह घृणित कार्य करता है.

The oppressed and the needy, hath treated with violence, Hath ruthlessly plundered, The pledge, hath not restored, But unto the manufactured gods, hath lifted up his eyes, Abomination, hath wrought;

13 वह ब्याज पर पैसा उधार देता है और लाभ कमाता है. क्या ऐसा व्यक्ति जीवित रहेगा? वह जीवित नहीं रहेगा! क्योंकि उसने ये सारे घृणित कार्य किए हैं, वह निश्चय मार डाला जाएगा; उसके खून का दोष स्वयं उसी के ऊपर होगा.

Upon interest, hath put out. And increase, hath accepted—, And shall he live? He shall not live All these abominations, he hath done, He shall surely be put to death, His blood, upon himself, shall be.

14 “पर मान लो, इस बेटे का एक बेटा है, जो अपने पिता द्वारा किए गए सब पापों को देखता है, और यद्यपि वह उन पापों को देखता है, पर वह ऐसा कोई पाप नहीं करता है:

But lo! he hath begotten a son, Who hath considered all the sins of his father which he hath done, - Yea he hath considered and not done like them:

15 “वह पहाड़ के पूजा स्थलों पर नहीं खाता है या इस्राएल के मूर्तियों को नहीं देखता है. वह अपने पड़ोसी की पत्नी को भ्रष्‍ट नहीं करता है.

Upon the mountains, hath not eaten, And his eyes, hath not lifted up unto the manufactured gods of the house of Israel, The wife of his neighbour, hath not defiled;

16 वह किसी पर अत्याचार नहीं करता है, वह कर्जा देने के लिये किसी चीज़ को गिरवी नहीं रखता. वह डाका नहीं डालता है, पर अपना भोजन भूखे को देता है और नंगे को कपड़ा देता है.

And no man, hath he treated with violence, Hath by no means withholden the pledge, And plunder, hath not seized, — His bread—to the famished, hath given And the naked, hath covered with clothing;

17 वह गरीबों को सताने से अपने हाथ रोके रखता है और उनसे कोई ब्याज या फायदा नहीं उठाता है. वह मेरे कानूनों का पालन करता और मेरे नियमों पर चलता है. वह अपने पिता के पाप के कारण नहीं मरेगा; वह निश्चय ही जीवित रहेगा.

From dishonesty, hath turned back his hand Neither interest nor increase, hath accepted, my regulations, hath executed, In my statutes, hath walked, — He shall not die for the iniquity of his father He shall surely live.

18 पर उसका पिता उसके स्वयं के पाप के कारण मरेगा, क्योंकि उसने अवैध वसूली की, अपने भाई को लूटा और वह काम किया जो उसके लोगों के बीच गलत है.

His father Because he exacted unjust gain Seized plunder of a brother, And that which was not good, had done in the midst of his people Therefore lo! he died, in his iniquity.

19 “तौभी तुम पूछते हो, ‘पुत्र अपने पिता के दोष का भागीदार क्यों नहीं होता?’ जब बेटे ने वह काम किया जो उचित और सही है और ध्यानपूर्वक मेरे नियमों को माना है, तो वह निश्चय ही जीवित रहेगा.

Will ye then say. Why hath not the son borne a part of the iniquity of the father? But the son hath done justice and righteousness, All my statutes, hath observed and done them He shall surely live.

20 जो पाप करेगा, मरेगा भी वहीं. कोई बच्चा अपने माता-पिता के दोष का भागीदार नहीं होगा, और न ही माता-पिता अपने बच्चों के दोष के भागीदार होंगे. धर्मी के धर्मीपन का फल उस धर्मी को ही मिलेगा, और दुष्ट की दुष्टता का फल उस दुष्ट को दिया जाएगा.

The person that sinneth, the same, shall die, — A, son, shall not bear a part of the iniquity of, the father Neither shall, a father, bear a part of the iniquity of the son, the righteousness of the righteous, upon himself, shall be. And, the lawlessness of a lawless man, upon himself, shall be.

21 “पर यदि कोई दुष्ट व्यक्ति अपने सब पापों को छोड़ देता है और मेरे नियमों का पालन करता है, और वह काम करता है जो उचित और सही है, तो वह व्यक्ति निश्चय जीवित रहेगा; वह न मरेगा.

But as for the lawless man— When he shall turn back from all his sins which he hath committed, And observe all my statutes, And do justice and righteousness He shall surely live. He shall not die:

22 उसने जो भी पाप किए हैं, वे फिर याद किए नहीं जाएंगे. वह अपने किए गये धर्म के कामों के कारण जीवित रहेगा.

None of his transgressions which he hath committed shall be remembered against him, —In his righteousness which he hath done, he shall live.

23 क्या मैं किसी दुष्ट की मृत्यु से खुश होता हूं? परम प्रधान याहवेह की घोषणा है. बल्कि क्या मैं खुश नहीं होता, जब वह अपने बुरे कामों को छोड़कर जीवित रहता है?

Could I take delight, in the death of the lawless? Demandeth My Lord. Yahweh. Must it not be in his turning from his ways in which case he shall live?

24 “पर यदि कोई धर्मी व्यक्ति अपने धर्मीपन को छोड़कर पाप करता है और वही घृणित काम करने लगता है जो दुष्ट व्यक्ति करते हैं, तो क्या वह जीवित रहेगा? उसके द्वारा किए गये कोई भी धर्मी काम याद नहीं किए जाएंगे. अपने किए गये विश्वासघात के कारण वह दोषी है और अपने किए गये पापों के कारण वह मरेगा.

But, when a righteous man, shall turn away, from his righteousness and do that which is perverse, Shall do, according to all the abominations which the lawless man hath done, Shall he live? None of his righteous acts which he hath done, shall be remembered, In his treachery wherein he hath been treacherous, And in his sin wherein he hath sinned, In them, shall he die.

25 “फिर भी तुम कहते हो, ‘प्रभु की नीति उचित नहीं है.’ हे इस्राएलियो, सुनो: क्या मेरी नीति अनुचित है? क्या ये तुम्हारी ही नीतियां नहीं हैं जो अनुचित हैं?

Can ye then say— The way of My Lord will not be equal? Hear I pray you O house of Israel, Will my way, not be equal? Will not your ways be unequal?

26 यदि कोई धर्मी व्यक्ति अपने धर्मीपन को छोड़कर दुष्ट काम करता है, तब वह अपने दुष्ट काम के कारण मरेगा; अपने किए गये पापों के कारण वह मरेगा.

When a righteous man shall turn away from his righteousness and do that which is perverse and die because of those things In his own perversity which he hath done, shall he die.

27 पर यदि कोई दुष्ट व्यक्ति अपने बुरे कामों को छोड़ देता है और वह काम करता है जो उचित और सही है, तो वह अपना प्राण बचाएगा.

But when a lawless man turneth away from his lawlessness which he hath done, And hath done justice and righteousness He, shall save his own soul, alive:

28 क्योंकि उसने अपने किए गये सब पापों पर सोच-विचार किया और उन्हें छोड़ दिया, इसलिये वह व्यक्ति निश्चय ही जीवित रहेगा; वह नहीं मरेगा.

When he considered, then he turned away from all his transgressions which he had committed, He shall surely live. He shall not die.

29 तौभी इस्राएली कहते हैं, ‘प्रभु की नीति उचित नहीं है.’ हे इस्राएल के लोगो, क्या मेरी नीतियां अनुचित हैं? क्या ये तुम्हारी ही नीतियां नहीं हैं जो अनुचित हैं?

Can the house of Israel then say- The way of My Lord will not be equal? Will my ways, not be equal O house of Israel? Will not your ways be unequal?

30 “इसलिये, हे इस्राएलियो, मैं तुममें से हर एक का न्याय उसी के आचरण के अनुसार करूंगा, परम प्रधान याहवेह की घोषणा है. पश्चात्ताप करो! अपने सब पापों को छोड़ दो; तब पाप तुम्हारे लिए पतन का कारण नहीं बनेगा.

Therefore, Every man according to his own ways, will I judge you O house of Israel, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Return ye—and make good your return—from all your transgressions, That they become not unto you a stumbling block of iniquity.

31 अपने द्वारा किए गए सब अपराधों से दूर हो जाओ और एक नया हृदय और एक नई आत्मा ले लो. हे इस्राएल के लोगों, तुम्हारी मृत्यु क्यों हो?

Cast off from you all your transgressions which ye have committed against me, And make you a new heart; And a new spirit, - For why should ye die, O house of Israel?

32 क्योंकि मुझे किसी के भी मृत्यु से खुशी नहीं होती, परम प्रधान याहवेह की घोषणा है. इसलिये पश्चात्ताप करो और जीवित रहो!

For I cannot take delight in the death of him that dieth, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Make good your return then and, live!
