सभोपदेशक 11
1 पानी के ऊपर अपनी रोटी डाल दो; क्योंकि बहुत दिनों के बाद यह तुम्हें दोबारा मिल जाएगी.
Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 अपना अंश सात भागों बल्कि आठ भागों में बांट दो, क्योंकि तुम्हें यह पता ही नहीं कि पृथ्वी पर क्या हो जाए!
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 अगर बादल पानी से भरे होते हैं, तो वे धरती पर जल बरसाते हैं. और पेड़ चाहे दक्षिण की ओर गिरे या उत्तर की ओर, यह उसी जगह पर पड़ा रहता है जहां यह गिरता है.
If the clouds are full of rain, they empty [themselves] upon the earth: and if the tree falleth towards the south, or towards the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 जो व्यक्ति हवा को देखता है वह बीज नहीं बो पाएगा; और जो बादलों को देखता है वह उपज नहीं काटेगा.
He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 जिस तरह तुम्हें हवा के मार्ग और गर्भवती स्त्री के गर्भ में हड्डियों के बनने के बारे में मालूम नहीं, उसी तरह सारी चीज़ों के बनानेवाले परमेश्वर के काम के बारे में तुम्हें मालूम कैसे होगा?
As thou knowest not what [is] the way of the spirit, [nor] the structure of the parts of conception in her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 बीज सुबह-सुबह ही बो देना और शाम में भी आराम न करना क्योंकि तुम्हें यह मालूम नहीं है, कि सुबह या शाम का बीज बोना फलदायी होगा या दोनों ही एक बराबर अच्छे होंगे.
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both [shall be] alike good.
7 उजाला मनभावन होता है, और आंखों के लिए सूरज सुखदायी.
Truly the light [is] sweet, and a pleasant [thing it is] for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 अगर किसी व्यक्ति की उम्र बड़ी है, तो उसे अपने जीवनकाल में आनंदित रहने दो. किंतु वह अपने अंधकार भरे दिन भुला न दे क्योंकि वे बहुत होंगे. ज़रूरी है कि हर एक चीज़ बेकार ही होगी.
But if a man shall live many years, [and] rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh [is] vanity.
9 हे जवान! अपनी जवानी में आनंदित रहो, इसमें तुम्हारा हृदय तुम्हें आनंदित करे. अपने हृदय और अपनी आंखों की इच्छा पूरी करो. किंतु तुम्हें यह याद रहे कि परमेश्वर इन सभी कामों के बारे में तुम पर न्याय और दंड लाएंगे.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: but know thou, that for all these [things] God will bring thee into judgment.
10 अपने हृदय से क्रोध और अपने शरीर से बुराई करना छोड़ दो क्योंकि बचपन, और जवानी भी बेकार ही हैं.
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth [are] vanity.
