व्यवस्था विवरण 21

1 उस देश की भूमि पर, जो याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें स्वामित्व के उद्देश्य से प्रदान कर रहे हैं, वहां यदि कोई मरा हुआ व्यक्ति खुले मैदान में पड़ा हुआ दिखाई दे और यह मालूम न हो कि किसने उस पर यह प्रहार किया है,

If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath smitten him:

2 तब तुम्हारे पुरनिए और तुम्हारे न्यायाध्यक्ष जाकर उस शव से निकटवर्ती नगरों की दूरी मापेंगे.

then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

3 तब उस नगर के पुरनिए, जो निकटतम है, गाय-बैलों से एक ऐसी बछिया लेंगे, जिससे कोई काम न लिया गया हो, न हल में, न बोने में

and it shall be, that the city which is nearest unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 तब वे पुरनिए उस बछिया को एक ऐसी घाटी में ले जाएंगे, जहां जल प्रवाहित हो रहा हो और वे उस घाटी में उस बछिया की गर्दन तोड़ देंगे.

and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley:

5 तब लेवी पुरोहित निकट आ जाएंगे, क्योंकि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने उन्हें याहवेह के सम्मान में उनकी सेवा के उद्देश्य से चुना है; हर एक विवाद और हर एक हमला उन्हीं के द्वारा सुलझाया जाना तय किया गया है.

and the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be:

6 मरे हुए व्यक्ति से पास वाले नगर के पुरनिए उस बछिया पर, जिसकी गर्दन उस घाटी में तोड़ी गई है, अपने-अपने हाथ धोएंगे,

and all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley:

7 तब वे यह घोषित करेंगे: “ये हमारे हाथ नहीं थे, जिन्होंने इसकी हत्या की है, न ही हमारे नेत्रों ने यह होते देखा है.

and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 याहवेह, आपके ही द्वारा बचाई हुई आपकी प्रजा इस्राएल को क्षमा प्रदान कीजिए और अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल पर निर्दोष की हत्या आरोपित न कीजिए.” तब उन्हें हत्या-आरोप से क्षमा प्राप्‍त हो जाएगी,

Forgive, O LORD, thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and suffer not innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

9 यह है वह प्रक्रिया जिसके द्वारा तुम अपने बीच में से निर्दोष की हत्या का दोष परिमार्जित करोगे, जब तुम वह करते हो, जो याहवेह की दृष्टि में उपयुक्त है.

So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD.

10 जब कभी तुम अपने शत्रुओं से युद्ध करते हो और याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें उन पर विजय प्रदान करते हैं और तुम उन्हें बंदी बनाकर ले आते हो,

When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God delivereth them into thine hands, and thou carriest them away captive,

11 उन बंदियों में तुम्हारी दृष्टि में कोई रूपवती स्त्री आ जाती है, तुम उसकी ओर आकर्षित हो जाते हो, यहां तक कि तुम उससे विवाह करने पर उद्यत हो जाते हो,

and seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife;

12 तो तुम उस स्त्री को अपने घर पर ले आओगे, उसके बालों का मुंडन करोगे और उसके नाखून क़तर दोगे.

then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 वह अपने बन्दीत्व के वस्त्रों को त्याग देगी, और तुम्हारे घर में रहने लगेगी. वह एक माह तक अपने माता-पिता के लिए शोक मनाएगी. यह पूरा होने पर तुम्हारे बीच यौन संबंध हो सकता है, तुम उसके पति और वह तुम्हारी पत्नी हो जाएगी.

and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 पर, यदि तुमने उसमें कोई असंतोष का कारण पाया है, तब तुम उसे मुक्त कर सकते हो कि वह अपनी इच्छा अनुसार कहीं भी चली जाए. तुम निश्चयतः उसको रुपयों में नहीं बेचोगे, क्योंकि तुम पहले ही उसे अपमानित कर चुके हो.

And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.

15 यदि किसी व्यक्ति की दो पत्नियां हैं, एक उसकी प्रेम पात्र और अन्य, जो प्रिय नहीं है; दोनों ही से उसे संतान प्राप्‍त हुई है; यदि प्रथमजात संतान उसे उस पत्नी से प्राप्‍त हुई है, जो उसे प्रिय नहीं है,

If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated;

16 तब, जिस अवसर पर वह अपना इच्छा पत्र तैयार करता है, वह उस संतान को, जो उसकी प्रिय पत्नी से पैदा हुआ है, अप्रिय पत्नी की संतान को छोड़ उस संतान को पहिलौठे का स्थान नहीं दे सकता.

then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, which is the firstborn:

17 वह उस पत्नी के पहिलौठे संतान को अपनी संपत्ति में से अन्यों की अपेक्षा दो गुणा भाग प्रदान कर पहिलौठे का अधिकार पूरा करेगा. क्योंकि वही उसके शौर्य का पहिला फल है, पहिलौठे का अधिकार उसी का है.

but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

18 यदि किसी व्यक्ति का पुत्र हठी और विद्रोही स्वभाव का है, जो अपने माता-पिता के प्रति आज्ञाकारी नहीं है, और जब वे उसकी ताड़ना करते हैं, तब भी वह उनकी नहीं सुनता,

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them:

19 इस स्थिति में उसे माता-पिता अपने नगर के पुरनियों के सामने नगर प्रवेश द्वार पर ले जाएं.

then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 तब वे उन पुरनियों को सूचित करेंगे, “हमारा यह पुत्र हठी और विद्रोही प्रवृत्ति का है. वह हमारी आज्ञाओं का पालन नहीं करता, वह पेटू और पियक्कड़ है.”

and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a riotous liver, and a drunkard.

21 तब नगर के सारे पुरुष उसका पथराव करके उसे मार डालेंगे. इस प्रकार तुम अपने बीच से उस बुराई को निकाल दोगे, और सारा इस्राएल इसके विषय में सुनकर भयभीत हो जाएगा.

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

22 यदि किसी व्यक्ति ने ऐसा पाप कर्म कर दिया है, जिसका दंड मृत्यु है, उसे मृत्यु दंड दे दिया गया है, उसे वृक्ष पर लटका दिया गया है,

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree;

23 उसका शव सारी रात वृक्ष पर लटका न रहे. निश्चयतः तुम उसे उसी दिन गाड़ दोगे क्योंकि वह व्यक्ति जिसे लटका दिया गया है, वह परमेश्वर का शापित व्यक्ति है, जिससे तुम याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर द्वारा मीरास के रूप में दिए हुए देश को दूषित न कर दो.

his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is accursed of God; that thou defile not thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
