प्रेरितों के काम 24

1 पांच दिन बाद महापुरोहित हननयाह पुरनियों तथा तरतुलुस नामक एक वकील के साथ कयसरिया नगर आ पहुंचे और उन्होंने राज्यपाल के सामने पौलॉस के विरुद्ध अपने आरोप प्रस्तुत किए.

And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and [with] a certain orator [named] Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

2 जब पौलॉस को वहां लाया गया, राज्यपाल के सामने तरतुलुस ने पौलॉस पर आरोप लगाने प्रारंभ कर दिए: “आपकी दूरदृष्टि के कारण आपके शासन में लंबे समय से शांति बनी रही है तथा आपके शासित प्रदेश में इस राष्ट्र के लिए आपके द्वारा लगातार सुधार किए जा रहे हैं.

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse [him], saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

3 परमश्रेष्ठ राज्यपाल फ़ेलिक्स, हम इनका हर जगह और हर प्रकार से धन्यवाद करते हुए हार्दिक स्वागत करते हैं.

We accept [it] always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4 मैं आपका और अधिक समय खराब नहीं करूंगा. मैं आपसे यह छोटा सा उत्तर सुनने की विनती करना चाहता हूं.

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

5 “यह व्यक्ति हमारे लिए वास्तव में कष्टदायक कीड़ा साबित हो रहा है. यह एक ऐसा व्यक्ति है, जो विश्व के सारे यहूदियों के बीच मतभेद पैदा कर रहा है. यह एक कुख्यात नाज़री पंथ का मुखिया भी है.

For we have found this man [a] pestilent [fellow], and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6 इसने मंदिर की पवित्रता भंग करने की भी कोशिश की है इसलिये हमने इसे बंदी बना लिया. [हम तो अपनी ही व्यवस्था की विधियों के अनुसार इसका न्याय करना चाह रहे थे.

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

7 किंतु सेनापति लिसियस ने ज़बरदस्ती दखलंदाज़ी कर इसे हमसे छीन लिया

But the chief captain Lysias came [upon us], and with great violence took [him] away out of our hands,

8 तथा हमें आपके सामने अपने आरोप प्रस्तुत होने की आज्ञा दी.] कि आप स्वयं स्थिति की जांच कर इन सभी आरोपों से संबंधित सच्चाईयों को जान सकें.”

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

9 तब दूसरे यहूदियों ने भी आरोप लगाना प्रारंभ कर दिया और इस बात की पुष्टि की कि ये सभी आरोप सही हैं.

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

10 राज्यपाल फ़ेलिक्स की ओर से संकेत प्राप्‍त होने पर पौलॉस ने इसके उत्तर में कहना प्रारंभ किया. “इस बात के प्रकाश में कि आप इस राष्ट्र के न्यायाधीश रहे हैं, मैं खुशी से अपना बचाव प्रस्तुत कर रहा हूं.

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

11 आप इस सच्चाई की पुष्टि कर सकते हैं कि मैं लगभग बारह दिन पहले सिर्फ आराधना के उद्देश्य से येरूशलेम गया

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

12 और इन्होंने न तो मुझे मंदिर में, न यहूदी आराधनालय में और न नगर में किसी से वाद-विवाद करते या नगर की शांति भंग करते पाया है और

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

13 न ही वे मुझ पर लगाए जा रहे इन आरोपों को साबित कर सकते हैं.

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

14 हां यह मैं आपके सामने अवश्य स्वीकार करता हूं कि इस मत के अनुसार, जिसे इन्होंने पंथ नाम दिया है, मैं वास्तव में हमारे पूर्वजों के ही परमेश्वर की सेवा-उपासना करता हूं. सब कुछ, जो व्यवस्था और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के लेखों के अनुसार है, मैं उसमें पूरी तरह विश्वास करता हूं.

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

15 परमेश्वर में मेरी भी वह आशा है जैसी इनकी कि निश्चित ही एक ऐसा दिन तय किया गया है, जिसमें धर्मियों तथा अधर्मियों दोनों ही का पुनरुत्थान होगा.

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

16 इसलिए मैं भी परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों दोनों ही के सामने हमेशा एक निष्कलंक विवेक बनाए रखने की भरपूर कोशिश करता हूं.

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and [toward] men.

17 “अनेक वर्षों के बीत जाने के बाद मैं अपने समाज के गरीबों के लिए सहायता राशि लेकर तथा बलि चढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से येरूशलेम आया था.

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

18 उसी समय इन्होंने मंदिर में मुझे शुद्ध होने की रीति पूरी करते हुए देखा. वहां न कोई भीड़ थी और न ही किसी प्रकार का शोर.

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

19 हां, उस समय वहां आसिया प्रदेश के कुछ यहूदी अवश्य थे, जिनका यहां आपके सामने उपस्थित होना सही था. यदि उन्हें मेरे विरोध में कुछ कहना ही था तो सही यही था कि वे इसे आपकी उपस्थिति में कहते.

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

20 अन्यथा ये व्यक्ति, जो यहां खड़े हैं, स्वयं बताएं कि महासभा के सामने उन्होंने मुझे किस विषय में दोषी पाया है,

Or else let these same [here] say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

21 केवल इस एक बात को छोड़ के, जो मैंने उनके सामने ऊंचे शब्द में व्यक्त किया: ‘मरे हुओं के पुनरुत्थान में मेरी मान्यता के कारण आज आपके सामने मुझ पर मुकद्दमा चलाया जा रहा है.’”

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

22 किंतु राज्यपाल फ़ेलिक्स ने, जो इस पंथ से भली-भांति परिचित था, सुनवाई को स्थगित करते हुए घोषणा की, “सेनापति लिसियस के आने पर ही मैं इस विषय में निर्णय दूंगा.”

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of [that] way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

23 उसने शताधिपति को आज्ञा दी कि पौलॉस को कारावास में तो रखा जाए किंतु उन्हें इतनी स्वतंत्रता अवश्य दी जाए कि उनके खास मित्र आकर उनकी सेवा कर सकें.

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let [him] have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

24 कुछ दिनों के बाद फ़ेलिक्स अपनी पत्नी द्रुसिल्ला के साथ वहां आया, जो यहूदी थी. उसने पौलॉस को बुलवाने की आज्ञा दी और उनसे उनके मसीह येशु में विश्वास विषय पर बातें सुनी.

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25 जब पौलॉस धार्मिकता, संयम तथा आनेवाले न्याय का वर्णन कर रहे थे, फ़ेलिक्स ने भयभीत हो पौलॉस से कहा, “इस समय तो तुम जाओ. जब मेरे पास समय होगा, मैं स्वयं तुम्हें बुलवा लूंगा.”

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

26 फ़ेलिक्स पौलॉस से धनराशि प्राप्‍ति की आशा लगाए हुए था. इसी आशा में वह पौलॉस को बातचीत के लिए बार-बार अपने पास बुलवाता था.

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

27 यही क्रम दो वर्षों तक चलता रहा. तब फ़ेलिक्स के स्थान पर पोर्कियॉस फ़ेस्तुस इस पद पर चुना गया और यहूदियों को प्रसन्‍न करने के उद्देश्य से फ़ेलिक्स ने पौलॉस को बंदी ही बना रहने दिया.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
