प्रेरितों के काम 22

1 “प्रियजन! अब कृपया मेरा उत्तर सुन लें.”

“Men, brothers and fathers, listen to my defense before you now.”

2 जब उन्होंने पौलॉस को इब्री भाषा में संबोधित करते हुए सुना तो वे और अधिक शांत हो गए. पौलॉस ने उनसे कहना शुरू किया.

When they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they were even more quiet, and he said:

3 “मैं यहूदी हूं, मेरा जन्म किलिकिया प्रदेश, के तारस्यॉस नगर में तथा पालन पोषण इसी नगर येरूशलेम में हुआ है. मेरी शिक्षा नियमानुकूल पूर्वजों की व्यवस्था के अनुरूप आचार्य गमालिएल महोदय की देखरेख में हुई, आज परमेश्वर के प्रति जैसा आप सबका उत्साह है, वैसा ही मेरा भी था.

“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, educated strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, just as you all are today.

4 मैं तो इस मत के शिष्यों को प्राण लेने तक सता रहा था, स्त्री-पुरुष दोनों को ही मैं बंदी बना कारागार में डाल देता था,

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,

5 महापुरोहित और पुरनियों की समिति के सदस्य इस सच्चाई के गवाह हैं, जिनसे दमिश्क नगर के यहूदियों के संबंध में अधिकार पत्र प्राप्‍त कर मैं दमिश्क नगर जा रहा था कि वहां से इस मत के शिष्यों को बंदी बनाकर येरूशलेम ले आऊं कि वे दंडित किए जाएं.

as also the high priest and all the council of elders can bear me witness. I even obtained letters from them to the brothers in Damascus, to bring those also who were there bound to Jerusalem to be punished.

6 “जब मैं लगभग दोपहर के समय दमिश्क नगर के पास पहुंचा, आकाश से अचानक बहुत तेज प्रकाश मेरे चारों ओर चमका

Now it happened, as I was going and approaching Damascus, about noon, suddenly a strong light from heaven shone around me.

7 और मैं भूमि पर गिर पड़ा. तभी मुझे संबोधित करता एक शब्द सुनाई दिया, ‘शाऊल! शाऊल! तुम मुझे क्यों सता रहे हो?’

I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

8 “मैंने प्रश्न किया, ‘आप कौन हैं, प्रभु?’ “‘मैं नाज़रेथ नगर का येशु हूं, जिसे तुम सता रहे हो,’ उस शब्द ने उत्तर दिया.

So I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus the Natsorean, whom you are persecuting.’

9 मेरे साथियों को प्रकाश तो अवश्य दिखाई दे रहा था किंतु मुझसे बातचीत करता हुआ शब्द उन्हें साफ़ सुनाई नहीं दे रहा था.

Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not understand the voice of the One speaking to me.

10 “मैंने पूछा, ‘मैं क्या करूं, प्रभु?’ प्रभु ने मुझे उत्तर दिया. “‘उठो, दमिश्क नगर में जाओ, वहीं तुम्हें बताया जाएगा कि तुम्हारे द्वारा क्या-क्या किया जाना तय किया गया है.’

So I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told about all that has been appointed to you to do.’

11 तेज प्रकाश के कारण मैं देखने की क्षमता खो बैठा था. इसलिये मेरे साथी मेरा हाथ पकड़कर मुझे दमिश्क नगर ले गए.

And since I could not see, because of the brightness of that light, I entered Damascus being led by the hand of those who were with me.

12 “हननयाह नामक व्यक्ति, जो व्यवस्था के अनुसार परमेश्वर भक्त और सभी स्थानीय यहूदियों द्वारा सम्मानित थे,

Then a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,

13 मेरे पास आकर मुझसे बोले, ‘भाई शाऊल! अपनी दृष्टि प्राप्‍त करो!’ उसी क्षण दृष्टि प्राप्‍त कर मैंने उनकी ओर देखा.

came to me, and standing by me said, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I looked up at him.

14 “उन्होंने मुझसे कहा, ‘हमारे पूर्वजों के परमेश्वर ने आपको अपनी इच्छा जानने तथा उन्हें देखने के लिए, जो धर्मी हैं तथा उन्हीं के मुख से निकले हुए शब्द सुनने के लिए चुना गया है.

Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear words from His mouth.

15 आपने जो कुछ देखा और सुना है, वह सबके सामने आपकी गवाही का विषय होगा.

For you shall be a witness for Him to all men of the things that you have seen and heard.

16 तो अब देर क्यों? उठिए, बपतिस्मा लीजिए—प्रभु के नाम की दोहाई देते हुए पाप क्षमा प्राप्‍त कीजिए.’

And now, why hesitate? Get up, be baptized and wash away your sins, invoking the name of the Lord.’

17 “येरूशलेम लौटने पर जब मैं मंदिर में प्रार्थना कर रहा था, मैं ध्यानमग्न की स्थिति में पहुंच गया.

“Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I came to be in a trance

18 मैंने प्रभु को स्वयं से यह कहते सुना, ‘बिना देर किए येरूशलेम छोड़ दो क्योंकि मेरे विषय में तुम्हारे द्वारा दी गई गवाही इन्हें स्वीकार नहीं होगी.’

and saw Him saying to me, ‘Hurry up and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not receive your testimony concerning me.’

19 “मैंने उत्तर दिया, ‘प्रभु, वे स्वयं यह जानते हैं कि एक-एक यहूदी आराधनालय से मैं आपके शिष्यों को चुन-चुनकर बंदी बनाता तथा यातनाएं देता था.

So I said: ‘Lord, they know that I used to imprison and beat those believing into you, from one synagogue to another;

20 जब आपके गवाह स्तेफ़ानॉस का लहू बहाया जा रहा था तो मैं न केवल इसके समर्थन में वहां खड़ा था, परंतु उसके हत्यारों के बाहरी कपड़ों की रखवाली भी कर रहा था.’

and when the blood of your witness Stephen was shed, I myself was standing there and agreeing to his murder, even guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’

21 “किंतु मेरे लिए प्रभु की आज्ञा थी, ‘जाओ; मैं तुम्हें गैर-यहूदियों के बीच दूर-दूर के स्थानों में भेज रहा हूं.’”

And He said to me, ‘Get going, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

22 यहां तक तो वे पौलॉस की बात ध्यान से सुनते रहे किंतु अब उन्होंने चिल्लाना शुरू कर दिया, “इस व्यक्ति के बोझ से धरती को मुक्त करो. इसे जीवित रहने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है.”

Well they kept listening to him until this statement, and then they raised their voice and shouted, “Rid the earth of this fellow, for it isn't fitting for him to live!”

23 जब वे चिल्लाने, वस्त्र उछालने और हवा में धूल उड़ाने लगे

As they were shouting, tearing off clothes and throwing dust into the air,

24 तो सेनापति ने पौलॉस को सेना गढ़ के अंदर ले जाने की आज्ञा दी कि उन्हें कोड़े लगाकर उनसे पूछताछ की जाए और उनके विरुद्ध भीड़ के इस प्रकार चिल्लाने का कारण मालूम हो सके.

the commander ordered him to be taken into the barracks, directing that he be interrogated with lashes, in order to learn for what crime they kept shouting against him like that.

25 जब वे पौलॉस को कोड़े लगाने की तैयारी में उनके हाथ-पैर फैलाकर बांध ही रहे थे, पौलॉस ने अपने पास खड़े शताधिपति से प्रश्न किया, “क्या आपके सामने एक रोमी नागरिक का दोष साबित हुए बिना उसे कोड़े लगाना ठीक है?”

But as they stretched him out with the thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and uncondemned?”

26 यह सुनना ही था कि शताधिपति ने तुरंत सेनापति के पास जाकर उससे कहा, “आप यह क्या करने पर हैं? यह व्यक्ति तो रोमी नागरिक है!”

Well when the centurion heard that, he went and reported to the commander saying, “Consider what you are about to do, because this man is a Roman!”

27 सेनापति ने पौलॉस के पास आकर उनसे प्रश्न किया, “तुम रोमी नागरिक हो?” “जी हां.” पौलॉस ने उत्तर दिया.

So the commander went and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” So he said, “Yes.”

28 सेनापति ने उनसे कहा, “एक बड़ी राशि चुकाने पर प्राप्‍त हुई है मुझे यह नागरिकता.” “किंतु मैं तो जन्म से रोमी नागरिक हूं!” पौलॉस ने उत्तर दिया.

The commander replied, “I acquired this citizenship at considerable cost.” And Paul said, “But I was so born.”

29 वे लोग, जो उनसे पूछताछ करने आए थे तुरंत वहां से खिसक लिए. जब सेनापति को यह मालूम हुआ कि उसने पौलॉस को, जो एक रोमी नागरिक हैं, बेड़ियां लगा दी हैं, तो वह घबरा गया.

So those who were about to interrogate him withdrew immediately; and even the commander was apprehensive when he realized that he had put chains on a Roman.

30 अगले दिन सच्चाई मालूम करने की इच्छा में कि पौलॉस पर यहूदियों द्वारा आरोप क्यों लगाए गए, सेनापति ने उन्हें रिहा कर दिया, प्रधान पुरोहितों तथा महासभा को इकट्ठा होने की आज्ञा दी और पौलॉस को लाकर उनके सामने पेश किया.

But the next day, desiring to know for certain why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds and ordered the chief priests and all their council to come, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
