प्रेरितों के काम 16

1 वह दरबे और लुस्त्रा नगर भी गए. वहां तिमोथियॉस नामक एक शिष्य थे जिनकी माता यहूदी मसीही शिष्या; परंतु पिता यूनानी थे.

Paul went first to Derbe, and then on to Lystra, where he met a believer by the name of Timothy. He was the son of a Jewish Christian mother, and his father was Greek.

2 तिमोथियॉस इकोनियॉन और लुस्त्रा नगरों के शिष्यों में सम्मानित थे.

The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.

3 पौलॉस की इच्छा तिमोथियॉस को अपने साथी के रूप में साथ रखने की थी, इसलिये पौलॉस ने उनका ख़तना किया क्योंकि वहां के यहूदी यह जानते थे कि तिमोथियॉस के पिता यूनानी हैं.

Paul wanted Timothy to travel with him, so he circumcised him because the Jews in the area all knew that Timothy's father was Greek.

4 वे नगर-नगर यात्रा करते हुए शिष्यों को वे सभी आज्ञा सौंपते जाते थे, जो येरूशलेम में प्रेरितों और पुरनियों द्वारा ठहराई गयी थी.

As they went through the different towns they gave them the requirements the apostles and elders in Jerusalem had said should be observed.

5 इसलिये कलीसिया प्रतिदिन विश्वास में स्थिर होती गई तथा उनकी संख्या में प्रतिदिन बढ़ोतरी होती गई.

The churches were strengthened in their trust in the Lord and every day their numbers increased.

6 वे फ़्रिजिया तथा गलातिया क्षेत्रों में से होते हुए आगे बढ़ गए. पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञा थी कि वे आसिया क्षेत्र में परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार न करें

They traveled through the districts of Phrygia and Galatia, since the Holy Spirit prevented them from going to the province of Asia to speak the word.

7 मूसिया नगर पहुंचने पर उन्होंने बिथुनिया नगर जाने का विचार किया किंतु मसीह येशु के आत्मा ने उन्हें इसकी आज्ञा नहीं दी.

When they arrived at the border of Mysia they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to enter.

8 इसलिये मूसिया नगर से निकलकर वे त्रोऑस नगर पहुंचे.

So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.

9 रात में पौलॉस ने एक दर्शन देखा: एक मकेदोनियावासी उनसे दुःखी शब्द में विनती कर रहा था, “मकेदोनिया क्षेत्र में आकर हमारी सहायता कीजिए!”

There Paul saw in vision during the night a man from Macedonia standing up, pleading with him, “Please come over to Macedonia and help us!”

10 पौलॉस द्वारा इस दर्शन देखते ही यह जानकर कि परमेश्वर ने हमें उन्हें सुसमाचार प्रचार करने के लिए बुलाया है; हमने तुरंत मकेदोनिया क्षेत्र जाने की योजना बनाई.

After Paul saw this vision, we immediately made arrangements to go to Macedonia, since we concluded that God had called us to share the good news with them.

11 त्रोऑस नगर से हम सीधे जलमार्ग द्वारा सामोथ्रेसिया टापू पहुंचे और दूसरे दिन नियापोलिस नगर

We set sail from Troas and made straight for Samothrace. The next day we went on to Neapolis,

12 और वहां से फ़िलिप्पॉय नगर, जो मकेदोनिया प्रदेश का एक प्रधान नगर तथा रोमी बस्ती है. हम यहां कुछ दिन ठहर गए.

and from there to Philippi, the most important town in Macedonia, and also a Roman colony. We stayed in this city for several days.

13 शब्बाथ पर हम नगर द्वार से निकलकर प्रार्थना के लिए निर्धारित स्थान की खोज में नदी तट पर चले गए. हम वहां इकट्ठी हुई स्त्रियों से वार्तालाप करते हुए बैठ गए.

On the Sabbath day we went out of the town gates down to the riverside where we thought people would come to pray. We sat down and talked with the women that had gathered there.

14 वहां थुआतेइरा नगर निवासी लुदिया नामक एक स्त्री थी, जो परमेश्वर की आराधक थी. वह बैंगनी रंग के वस्त्रों की व्यापारी थी. उसने हमारा वार्तालाप सुना और प्रभु ने पौलॉस द्वारा दी जा रही शिक्षा के प्रति उसका हृदय खोल दिया.

One of them was called Lydia, who sold purple cloth from the town of Thyatira. She worshiped God, and she listened to us. The Lord opened her mind to what Paul was saying, and she accepted what he told her.

15 जब उसने और उसके रिश्तेदारों ने बपतिस्मा ले लिया तब उसने हमको अपने यहां आमंत्रित करते हुए कहा, “यदि आप यह मानते हैं कि मैं प्रभु के प्रति विश्वासयोग्य हूं, तो आकर मेरे घर में रहिए.” उसने हमें विनती स्वीकार करने पर विवश कर दिया.

After she and all her household were baptized, she pleaded with us, “If you really think that I'm truly committed to the Lord, then come and stay at my house.” She kept on insisting until we agreed!

16 एक दिन प्रार्थना स्थल की ओर जाते हुए मार्ग में हमारी भेंट एक युवा दासी से हुई, जिसमें एक ऐसी दुष्टात्मा थी, जिसकी सहायता से वह भविष्य प्रकट कर देती थी. वह अपने स्वामियों की बहुत आय का साधन बन गई थी.

One day when we were going down to the place of prayer we met a slave girl possessed by an evil spirit. She earned her masters a great deal of money by fortune-telling.

17 यह दासी पौलॉस और हमारे पीछे-पीछे यह चिल्लाती हुए चलने लगी, “ये लोग परम प्रधान परमेश्वर के दास हैं, जो तुम पर उद्धार का मार्ग प्रकट कर रहे हैं.”

This girl followed Paul and the rest of us around, shouting, “These men are the servants of Almighty God. They are telling you how to be saved!”

18 अनेक दिनों तक वह यही करती रही. अंत में झुंझला कर पौलॉस पीछे मुड़े और उसके अंदर समाई दुष्टात्मा से बोले, “मसीह येशु के नाम में मैं तुझे आज्ञा देता हूं, निकल जा उसमें से!” तुरंत ही वह दुष्टात्मा उसे छोड़कर चली गई.

She went on doing this for several days. This bothered Paul so he turned around and told the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to leave her!” The spirit immediately left her.

19 जब उसके स्वामियों को यह मालूम हुआ कि उनकी आय की आशा जाती रही, वे पौलॉस और सीलास को पकड़कर नगर चौक में प्रधान न्यायाधीशों के सामने ले गए

But when her masters saw they had lost their means of making money, they grabbed hold of Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities at the marketplace.

20 और उनसे कहने लगे, “इन यहूदियों ने नगर में उत्पात मचा रखा है.

They brought them in front of the magistrates, and accused them: “These Jewish men are causing a great disturbance in our town,” they said.

21 ये लोग ऐसी प्रथाओं का प्रचार कर रहे हैं जिन्हें स्वीकार करना या पालन करना हम रोमी नागरिकों के नियमानुसार नहीं है.”

“They're advocating things that are illegal for us as Romans to accept or to practice.”

22 इस पर सारी भीड़ उनके विरुद्ध हो गई और प्रधान हाकिमों ने उनके वस्त्र फाड़ डाले और उन्हें बेंत लगाने की आज्ञा दी.

The crowd joined together in an attack on them. The magistrates tore off Paul and Silas' clothes, and ordered them beaten with rods.

23 उन पर अनेक कठोर प्रहारों के बाद उन्हें कारागार में डाल दिया गया और कारागार-शासक को उन्हें कठोर सुरक्षा में रखने का निर्देश दिया.

After giving them a severe beating, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them locked up.

24 इस आदेश पर कारागार-शासक ने उन्हें भीतरी कक्ष में डालकर उनके पैरों को लकड़ी की बेड़ियों में जकड़ दिया.

The jailer followed his orders. He threw Paul and Silas into the inner cell and shackled their feet in the stocks.

25 लगभग आधी रात के समय पौलॉस और सीलास प्रार्थना कर रहे थे तथा परमेश्वर की स्तुति में भजन गा रहे थे. उनके साथी कैदी उनकी सुन रहे थे.

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

26 अचानक ऐसा बड़ा भूकंप आया कि कारागार की नींव हिल गई, तुरंत सभी द्वार खुल गए और सभी बंदियों की बेड़ियां टूट गईं.

Suddenly a tremendous earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. Immediately all the doors flew open and everyone's chains fell off.

27 नींद से जागने पर कारागार-शासक ने सभी द्वार खुले पाए. यह सोचकर कि सारे कैदी भाग चुके हैं, वह तलवार से अपने प्राणों का अंत करने जा ही रहा था;

The jailer woke up and saw the doors of the prison wide open. He drew his sword and was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.

28 तब पौलॉस ने ऊंचे शब्द में उससे कहा, “स्वयं को कोई हानि न पहुंचाइए, हम सब यहीं हैं!”

But Paul shouted out, “Don't hurt yourself—we're all still here!”

29 कारागार-शासक रोशनी का इंतजाम करने के लिए आज्ञा देते हुए भीतर दौड़ गया और भय से कांपते हुए पौलॉस और सीलास के चरणों में गिर पड़ा.

The jailer asked for lights to be brought and rushed in. Shaking with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.

30 इसके बाद उन्हें बाहर लाकर उसने उनसे प्रश्न किया, “श्रीमन, मुझे क्या करना चाहिए कि मुझे उद्धार प्राप्‍त हो?”

He escorted them out and asked them, “Sirs, what do I have to do so I can be saved?”

31 उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, “प्रभु येशु मसीह में विश्वास कीजिए, आपको उद्धार प्राप्‍त होगा—आपको तथा आपके परिवार को.”

“Trust in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your whole household,” they replied.

32 तब उन्होंने कारागार-शासक और उसके सारे परिवार को प्रभु के वचन की शिक्षा दी.

Then they shared the word of the Lord with him and everyone who lived in his house.

33 कारागार-शासक ने रात में उसी समय उनके घावों को धोया. बिना देर किए उसने और उसके परिवार ने बपतिस्मा लिया.

Even though it was late at night he bathed their wounds, and he was baptized right away, along with all his family.

34 इसके बाद वह उन्हें अपने घर ले आया और उन्हें भोजन कराया. परमेश्वर में सपरिवार विश्वास करके वे सभी बहुत आनंदित थे.

He took them home and had a meal prepared for them. The jailer and his whole family were full of joy because they trusted in God.

35 अगले दिन प्रधान हाकिमों ने अपने अधिकारियों द्वारा यह आज्ञा भेजी, “उन व्यक्तियों को छोड़ दो.”

Early the next day the magistrate sent officials to the jailer, telling him, “Release those men.”

36 कारागार-शासक ने इस आज्ञा की सूचना पौलॉस को देते हुए कहा, “प्रधान न्यायाधीशों ने आपको छोड़ देने की आज्ञा दी है. इसलिये आप शांतिपूर्वक यहां से विदा हो सकते हैं.”

The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have sent word to release you. So you can leave, and go in peace.”

37 पौलॉस ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “उन्होंने हमें बिना किसी मुकद्दमे के सबके सामने पिटवाया, जबकि हम रोमी नागरिक हैं, फिर हमें कारागार में भी डाल दिया और अब वे हमें चुपचाप बाहर भेजना चाह रहे हैं! बिलकुल नहीं! स्वयं उन्हीं को यहां आने दीजिए, वे ही हमें यहां से बाहर छोड़ देंगे.”

But Paul told them, “They publicly beat us without a trial—and yet we're Roman citizens! Then they threw us in prison. Now they want to quietly let us go? No, they should come themselves and release us!”

38 उन अधिकारियों ने यह सब प्रधान न्यायाधीशों को जा बताया. यह मालूम होने पर कि पौलॉस तथा सीलास रोमी नागरिक हैं वे बहुत ही डर गए.

The officials went back and reported this to the magistrates. When they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens they were really worried,

39 तब वे स्वयं आकर पौलॉस तथा सीलास को मनाने लगे और उन्हें कारागार से बाहर लाकर उनसे नगर से चले जाने की विनती करते रहे.

and went to apologize to them. They escorted them out and begged them to leave town.

40 तब पौलॉस तथा सीलास कारागार से निकलकर लुदिया के घर गए. वहां भाई बहिनों से भेंट कर उन्हें प्रोत्साहित करते हुए वे वहां से विदा हो गए.

So Paul and Silas left the prison and went to Lydia's house. There they met with the believers, encouraged them, and then went on their way.
