1 उसी समय राजा हेरोदेस ने कलीसिया के कुछ लोगों को सताने के उद्देश्य से बंदी बना लिया
At that time Herod the king undertook to afflict some of the church.
2 और तलवार से योहन के भाई याकोब की हत्या करवा दी.
And he slew with the sword James the brother of John.
3 जब उसने यह देखा कि उसके ऐसा करने से यहूदी प्रसन्न होते हैं, उसने पेतरॉस को भी बंदी बनाने का निश्चय किया. यह अखमीरी रोटी के पर्व का अवसर था.
And when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he apprehended Peter also. Those were the days of unleavened bread.
4 पेतरॉस को बंदी बनाकर उसने उन पर चार-चार सैनिकों के चार दलों का पहरा लगा दिया कि फ़सह पर्व समाप्त हो जाने पर वह उन पर मुकद्दमा चलाए.
And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four tetrads of soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the passover.
5 पेतरॉस को कारागार में रखा गया किंतु कलीसिया उनके लिए एक मन से प्रार्थना कर रही थी.
Therefore, Peter was kept in prison; but fervent prayer to God was made for him by the church.
6 उन पर मुकद्दमा चलाए जाने से एक रात पहले पेतरॉस दो सैनिकों के मध्य बेड़ियों से बंधे सोए हुए थे. और द्वार के सामने भी चौकीदार पहरा दे रहे थे.
When Herod was about to bring him out, on that night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains; and the keepers before the doors were guarding the prison.
7 प्रभु का एक दूत एकाएक वहां प्रकट हुआ और वह कमरा ज्योति से भर गया. स्वर्गदूत ने पेतरॉस को थपथपा कर जगाया और कहा, “जल्दी उठिए!” तत्काल ही पेतरॉस की हथकड़ियां गिर पड़ीं.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison. And he gently struck Peter on the side, and awoke him, saying: Arise quickly; and his chains fell from his hands.
8 स्वर्गदूत ने पेतरॉस से कहा, “वस्त्र और जूतियां पहन लीजिए” पेतरॉस ने ऐसा ही किया. तब स्वर्गदूत ने उन्हें आज्ञा दी, “अब ऊपरी कपड़ा ओढ़ कर मेरे पीछे-पीछे आ जाइए.”
And the angel said to him: Gird yourself, and bind on your sandals; and he did so. And he said to him: Throw your mantle around you, and follow me.
9 पेतरॉस उसके पीछे कारागार से बाहर आ गए किंतु वह यह समझ नहीं पा रहे थे कि जो कुछ स्वर्गदूत द्वारा किया जा रहा था, वह सच्चाई थी या सिर्फ़ सपना.
And he went out, and followed him; and he knew not that what was done by the angel was real, but thought that he saw a vision.
10 जब वे पहले और दूसरे पहरे को पार करके उस लोहे के दरवाज़े पर पहुंचे, जो नगर में खुलता है, वह द्वार अपने आप खुल गया और वे बाहर निकल गए. जब वे गली पार कर चुके तो अचानक स्वर्गदूत उन्हें छोड़कर चला गया.
And when they had passed through the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord. And they went out, and passed on through one street; and the angel immediately departed from him.
11 तब पेतरॉस की सुध-बुध लौटी और वह कह उठे, “अब मुझे सच्चाई का अहसास हो रहा है कि प्रभु ने ही अपने स्वर्गदूत को भेजकर मुझे हेरोदेस से और यहूदी लोगों की सारी उम्मीदों से छुड़ा लिया है.”
And when Peter came to himself, he said: Now I know, in truth, that the Lord has sent his angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod, and from all that was expected by the Jewish people.
12 यह जानकर वह योहन अर्थात् मार्कास की माता मरियम के घर पहुंचे, जहां अनेक शिष्य इकट्ठा होकर प्रार्थना कर रहे थे.
And being aware of his condition, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, who is surnamed Mark, where many had met together, and were praying.
13 उनके खटखटाने पर रोदा नामक दासी द्वार पर आई.
And when he knocked at the door of the entrance, a maid-servant, named Rhoda, came to listen.
14 पेतरॉस का शब्द पहचानकर, आनंद में द्वार खोले बिना ही उसने अंदर जाकर बताया कि पेतरॉस बाहर द्वार पर खड़े हैं.
And recognizing Peter’s voice, she did not open the entrance for joy, but ran in and told that Peter was standing before the entrance.
15 वे उससे कहने लगे, “तेरी तो मति मारी गई है!” किंतु जब वह अपनी बात पर अटल रही तो वे कहने लगे, “वह पेतरॉस का स्वर्गदूत होगा.”
And they said to her: You are mad. But she confidently affirmed that it was even so. Then said hey: It is his angel.
16 उधर पेतरॉस द्वार खटखटाते रहे. आखिरकार जब उन्होंने द्वार खोला, वे पेतरॉस को देखकर हक्का-बक्का रह गए.
But Peter continued to knock; and when they had opened the door, they saw him, and were astonished.
17 पेतरॉस ने हाथ से शांत रहने का संकेत देते हुए उन्हें बताया कि प्रभु ने किस प्रकार उन्हें कारागार से बाहर निकाला. पेतरॉस ने उनसे कहा कि वे याकोब और अन्य भाई बहिनों को इस विषय में बता दें. तब वह स्वयं दूसरी जगह चले गए.
But, having made a sign to them with his hand, that they should keep silence, he made known to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison, and he said: Tell this to James, and to the brethren. And he went out, and departed to another place.
18 अगले दिन सुबह सैनिकों में बड़ी खलबली मच गई कि पेतरॉस का क्या हुआ?
And when it was day, there was no little confusion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter.
19 हेरोदेस ने उनकी बहुत खोज करवाई और उन्हें कहीं भी न पाकर उसने पहरेदारों की जांच की और उन सबके लिए मृत्यु दंड का आदेश दे दिया. फिर हेरोदेस कुछ समय के लिए यहूदिया प्रदेश से कयसरिया नगर चला गया और वहां रहा.
But Herod, when he had sought for him, and found him not, examined the keepers, and commanded them to be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Cesarean, and there he remained.
20 हेरोदेस सोर और सीदोनवासियों से बहुत नाराज़ था. ये लोग राजा के घर की देखभाल करनेवाले ब्लास्तॉस की सहानुभूति प्राप्त कर एक मत होकर मेल-मिलाप का प्रस्ताव लेकर राजा के पास आए थे क्योंकि अनाज की पूर्ति के लिए वे राजा के क्षेत्र पर ही निर्भर थे.
And he was intending to make war upon the Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came with one consent to him; and having made Blastus, who had charge of the king’s bed-chamber, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supported by that of the king.
21 हेरोदेस ने नियत दिन अपने राजसी वस्त्र धारण कर सिंहासन पर विराजमान हो प्रजा को संबोधित करना प्रारंभ किया.
And on an appointed day, Herod, having arrayed himself in royal apparel, and seated himself on his throne, delivered an oration to them.
22 भीड़ चिल्लाती रही, “यह मानव का नहीं, देवता का शब्द है.”
And the people shouted: It is the voice of God, and not of man.
23 उसी क्षण प्रभु के एक दूत ने हेरोदेस पर वार किया क्योंकि उसने परमेश्वर को महिमा नहीं दी थी. उसके शरीर में कीड़े पड़ गए और उसकी मृत्यु हो गई.
And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory. And having been eaten by worms, he expired.
24 प्रभु का वचन बढ़ता और फैलता चला गया.
But the word of the Lord increased and multiplied.
25 बारनबास और शाऊल येरूशलेम में अपनी सेवा समाप्त कर वहां से लौट गए. उन्होंने योहन को, जो मार्कास नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध हैं, अपने साथ ले लिया था.
And Barnabas and Saul, after they had fulfilled their ministry, returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, whose surname was Mark.
