1 प्राचीन की ओर से, प्रिय गायॉस को, जिससे मुझे वास्तव में प्रेम है.
THE presbyter to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 प्रिय भाई बहनो, मेरी कामना है कि जिस प्रकार तुम अपनी आत्मा में उन्नत हो, ठीक वैसे ही अन्य क्षेत्रों में भी उन्नत होते जाओ और स्वस्थ रहो.
Beloved, above all things I pray that thou mayest prosper, and be in sound health of body, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 मुझसे भेंट करने आए साथी विश्वासियों द्वारा सच्चाई में तुम्हारी स्थिरता का विवरण अर्थात् सत्य में तुम्हारे स्वभाव के विषय में सुनकर मुझे बहुत ही खुशी हुई.
I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came, and bore witness to thy truth, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 मेरे लिए इससे बढ़कर और कोई आनंद नहीं कि मैं यह सुनूं कि मेरे बालकों का स्वभाव सच्चाई के अनुसार है.
I have no greater joy than these tidings, that I hear my own children are walking in the truth.
5 प्रिय भाई बहनो, जो कुछ तुम साथी विश्वासियों, विशेष रूप से परदेशी साथी विश्वासियों की भलाई में कर रहे हो, तुम्हारी सच्चाई का सबूत है.
Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever services thou performest for the brethren, and for strangers;
6 वे कलीसिया के सामने तुम्हारे प्रेम के गवाह हैं. सही यह है कि तुम उन्हें इसी भाव में विदा करो, जो परमेश्वर को ग्रहण योग्य हो,
who have borne testimony to thy love before the church; to whom thou wilt perform a good act of service in forwarding them on their journey, in a manner worthy of God.
7 क्योंकि उन्होंने गैर-यहूदियों से बिना कोई सहायता स्वीकार किए प्रभु के लिए काम प्रारंभ किया था.
For on account of his name they went forth, receiving nothing from the heathen.
8 इसलिये सही है कि हम ऐसे व्यक्तियों का सत्कार करें कि हम उस सत्य के सहकर्मी हो जाएं.
We therefore ought to assist such men, that we may become fellow-labourers in the truth.
9 मैंने कलीसिया को पत्र लिखा था परंतु दिओत्रिफ़ेस, जो उनमें हमेशा ही अगुआ बनना चाहता है, हमारी नहीं मानता.
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who affects pre-eminence over them, receiveth us not.
10 इसी कारण जब मैं वहां आऊंगा तो तुम्हारे सामने उसके द्वारा किए गए सभी कामों को स्पष्ट कर दूंगा अर्थात् सारे बुरे-बुरे शब्दों का प्रयोग करते हुए हम पर लगाए गए आरोपों का. इतना ही नहीं, वह न तो स्वयं उपदेशकों को स्वीकार करता है और न ही कलीसिया के सदस्यों को ऐसा करने देता है, जो ऐसा करने के इच्छुक हैं. वस्तुतः उन्हें वह कलीसिया से बाहर कर देता है.
Therefore if I come I will remember his works which he doth, with wicked words prating against us; and not content with these things, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and those who are willing he hindereth, and casteth them out of the church.
11 प्रिय भाई बहनो, बुराई का नहीं परंतु भलाई का अनुसरण करो क्योंकि भला करनेवाला परमेश्वर का है; जो बुराई करनेवाला है उसने परमेश्वर को नहीं देखा.
Beloved, be not an imitator of what is evil, but of that which is good. He that doeth good is of God, but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12 देमेत्रियॉस की सभी प्रशंसा करते हैं. स्वयं सच उसका गवाह है. हम भी उसके गवाह हैं और तुम यह जानते हो कि हमारी गवाही सच है.
Demetrius hath a good testimony from all men, and from the truth itself: and we also bear our testimony, and ye know that our testimony is true.
13 हालांकि लिखने योग्य अनेक विषय हैं किंतु मैं स्याही और लेखनी इस्तेमाल नहीं करना चाहता.
I had many things to write; but I would not write to thee with ink and pen:
14 मेरी आशा है कि मैं तुमसे बहुत जल्द भेंटकर आमने-सामने आपस में बातचीत करूंगा. तुम्हें शांति मिले. तुम्हें मित्रों का नमस्कार. व्यक्तिगत रूप से हर एक मित्र को नमस्कार करना.
but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
