1 इसके बाद इस्राएल के सारे गोत्र हेब्रोन में दावीद से भेंटकरने आए और उनके समक्ष यह प्रस्ताव रखा, “विचार कीजिए, हम आप ही की अस्थि और मांस हैं.
Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2 पिछले सालों में जब राजा तो शाऊल थे किंतु ये आप ही थे, जो हमारा मार्गदर्शन और इस्राएली सेना को चलाते रहे. याहवेह ने आपसे कहा था, ‘तुम मेरी प्रजा इस्राएल के चरवाहे होगे, तुम मेरी प्रजा इस्राएल के शासक होगे.’”
Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3 अत: इस्राएल के सारे प्राचीन हेब्रोन नगर में राजा के सामने इकट्ठा हुए. दावीद ने याहवेह के सामने उनसे वाचा बांधी. तत्पश्चात उन्होंने इस्राएल के लिए दावीद का राजाभिषेक किया.
So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.
4 शासन प्रारंभ करते समय दावीद की आयु तीस वर्ष की थी, और उन्होंने चालीस वर्ष शासन किया.
David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5 उन्होंने हेब्रोन में रहते हुए यहूदिया पर सात वर्ष छः माह शासन किया और येरूशलेम में उन्होंने संपूर्ण इस्राएल और यहूदिया पर तैंतीस वर्ष शासन किया.
In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6 राजा ने अपनी सेना के साथ येरूशलेम जाकर उस देश के निवासी यबूसियों पर आक्रमण किया. यबूसियों ने दावीद को संदेश भेजा, “तुम तो यहां प्रवेश भी न कर सकोगे; तुम्हें तो हमारे अंधे और लंगड़े ही पछाड़ देंगे!” उनका विचार था, “दावीद के लिए यहां प्रवेश करना संभव नहीं है.”
And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: who spoke to David, saying, Except thou shalt take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in here: thinking, David cannot come in there.
7 फिर भी, दावीद ने ज़ियोन गढ़ पर अधिकार कर लिया. अब यह दावीद के नगर के नाम से प्रख्यात हो गया है.
Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.
8 उस अवसर पर दावीद ने अपने लोगों से कहा, “यदि तुम लोग यबूसियों को हराना चाहते हो तो जल सुरंग से जाओ, और उन ‘अंधों तथा विकलांगों’ पर हमला करो.” यही कारण है कि लोग कहते हैं “अंधों और विकलांग को (राज) निवास में प्रवेश निषेध है.”
And David said on that day, Whoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated by David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
9 दावीद ने गढ़ पर अधिकार कर लिया और उसे दावीद-नगर नाम दिया. दावीद ने मिल्लो से प्रारंभ कर इसके चारों ओर भीतर की ओर नगर का निर्माण किया.
So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built around from Millo and inward.
10 दावीद पर सर्वशक्तिमान याहवेह परमेश्वर की कृपादृष्टि थी, इसलिए दावीद धीरे धीरे मजबूत होते चले गए.
And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.
11 इसके बाद सोर के राजा हीराम ने दावीद के पास अपने दूत भेजे, जो दावीद के घर को बनाने के लिए अपने साथ देवदार की लकड़ी, बढ़ई और राजमिस्त्री भी ले आए.
And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
12 इससे दावीद को यह अहसास हो गया कि याहवेह ने उन्हें इस्राएल के राजा के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित कर दिया है, और यह भी कि याहवेह ने अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल के हित में अपने राज्य को उन्नत किया है.
And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.
13 हेब्रोन से येरूशलेम आकर बसने पर दावीद और भी उपपत्नियां और पत्नियां ले आए. उनको और भी संतान पैदा हुई.
And David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
14 येरूशलेम में पैदा उनकी संतान के नाम ये हैं: शम्मुआ, शोबाब, नाथान, शलोमोन,
And these are the names of those that were born to him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
15 इबहार, एलिशुआ, नेफ़ेग, याफिया,
Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
16 एलीशामा, एलियादा और एलिफेलेत.
And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.
17 जब फिलिस्तीनियों को यह मालूम हुआ कि दावीद का राजाभिषेक इस्राएल के राजा के रूप में किया गया है, सभी फिलिस्तीनी दावीद की खोज में निकल पड़े; मगर जैसे ही दावीद ने इसके विषय में सुना, वह गढ़ में चले गए.
But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the strong hold.
18 इस समय फिलिस्तीनी आकर रेफाइम घाटी में फैल गए.
The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
19 इस पर दावीद ने याहवेह से पूछा, “क्या मैं फिलिस्तीनियों पर आक्रमण करूं? क्या आप उन्हें मेरे अधीन कर देंगे?” याहवेह ने दावीद को उत्तर दिया, “जाओ, क्योंकि मैं फिलिस्तीनियों को निश्चित ही तुम्हारे अधीन कर दूंगा.”
And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the LORD said to David, Go up: for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into thy hand.
20 दावीद बाल-पेराज़िम नामक स्थान पर पहुंचे और वहां फिलिस्तीनियों को हरा दिया. वहां दावीद ने यह घोषित किया, “याहवेह मेरे पहले ही वहां पहुंचकर मेरे शत्रुओं पर कुछ ऐसे टूट पड़े, जैसे बहुत से जल का बहाव.” इस पर उस स्थान का नाम पड़ गया, बाल-पेराज़िम.
And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon my enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.
21 फिलिस्तीनी अपनी मूर्तियां वही छोड़कर भागे, जिन्हें दावीद और उनके साथी उठाकर ले गए.
And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
22 एक बार फिर फिलिस्तीनी आए और रेफाइम घाटी में फैल गए.
And the Philistines came yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
23 जब दावीद ने याहवेह से इस विषय में पूछा, याहवेह ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “तुम सीधे जाकर उन पर हमला न करना, बल्कि तुम घूमकर उनके पीछे जाकर मोखा वृक्षों की ओर से हमला करना.
And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but make a circuit behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.
24 हमला उस समय सही होगा, जब तुम्हें मोखा के पेड़ों के ऊपर से सेना की चहल-कदमी सुनाई देने लगें. तब तुम युद्ध शुरू कर देना, क्योंकि उस समय याहवेह तुम्हारे आगे-आगे फिलिस्तीनी सेना को मारते हुए बढ़ रहे होंगे.”
And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
25 दावीद ने वैसा ही किया, जैसा याहवेह ने आदेश दिया था. उन्होंने गिबयोन से लेकर गेज़ेर तक फिलिस्तीनियों को मार गिराया.
And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou comest to Gazer.
