1 योआब को इसकी सूचना इस प्रकार दी गई, “अपने राजा रो-रोकर अबशालोम के लिए विलाप कर रहे हैं.”

It was told Joab, "Look, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom."

2 तब उस दिन विजय का हर्ष सारी सेना के लिए विलाप में बदल गया; क्योंकि सेना को यह बताया गया था, “महाराज अपने पुत्र के लिए रो रहे है.” उस दिन की जीत की खुशी गहरी उदासी में बदल गई थी.

The victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people; for the people heard it said that day, "The king grieves for his son."

3 फलस्वरूप, सैनिक नगर में चुपके-चुपके ऐसे प्रवेश कर रहे थे, मानो वे लज्जित होकर युद्ध में शत्रु को पीठ दिखाकर भाग आए हों.

So the people went quietly into the city that day, the way that people who are humiliated creep away when fleeing in battle.

4 राजा अपना मुखमंडल ढांप कर ऊंची आवाज में रो रहे थे, “मेरे पुत्र अबशालोम, मेरे पुत्र, मेरे पुत्र!”

The king covered his face, and he cried with a loud voice, "My son Absalom, Absalom, my son."

5 तब योआब ने उस कमरे में जाकर राजा से कहा, “आज आपने अपने उन सभी अधिकारियों का मुख लज्जा से झुका दिया है, जिन्होंने आपकी और आपके पुत्र-पुत्रियों, पत्नियों और उपपत्नियों के जीवन की रक्षा की है.

Then Joab went into the house to the king, and said, "Today you have humiliated the faces of all your servants, who have this day saved your life and the lives of your sons and of your daughters and the lives of your wives and the lives of your secondary wives;

6 आप उनसे तो प्रेम करते हैं, जिन्हें आपसे प्रेम नहीं, और उनसे घृणा करते हैं, जो आपसे प्रेम करते हैं. आज आपने यह साफ़ कर दिया है कि आपकी दृष्टि में न तो अधिकारियों का कोई महत्व है, न सैनिकों का. आज मुझे यह मालूम हो गया है कि आज यदि अबशालोम जीवित होता और हम सभी मृत, तो आपको अत्यंत हर्ष होता.

by loving those who hate you and hating those who love you. For you have made it clear today that commanders and servants are nothing to you. For you know that if Absalom were alive today, and all of us had died, then you would be pleased.

7 अब ऐसा कीजिए: उठिए, बाहर आइए और अपने सैनिकों से सांत्वनापूर्ण शब्दों में बातें कीजिए, नहीं तो जीवित याहवेह की शपथ, यदि आप यह न करेंगे, एक भी सैनिक आज रात आपके साथ देखा न जाएगा. यह आपके लिए ऐसी किसी भी विपदा से कहीं अधिक सोचने लायक होगा, जो आपके बाल्यकाल से आज तक आप पर न आन पड़ी है.”

Now therefore get up, go out and speak kindly to your servants. For I swear by the LORD, if you do not go out, not a man will remain with you this night, and that will be worse for you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now."

8 तब राजा उठे और नगर द्वार पर जाकर बैठ गए, जब लोगों ने यह सुना, “सुनो, सुनो, राजा द्वार पर बैठे हुए है,” तो लोग राजा के निकट आने लगे. इस्राएली अपने-अपने घर भाग जा चुके थे.

So the king got up and sat at the gate. And all the people were informed, saying, "Look, the king is sitting at the gate." And all the people came before the king. Meanwhile, Israel had fled each man to his tent.

9 इस्राएल के सारे गोत्रों में इस समय इस विषय पर उग्र विवाद छिड़ा हुआ था, “राजा ही हमें हमारे शत्रुओं से सुरक्षा प्रदान करते आए हैं, वही हमें फिलिस्तीनियों से मुक्त करते आए हैं, अब वह अबशालोम के कारण देश छोड़कर भाग गए हैं.

All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled from the land and from being over his kingdom.

10 यहां हमने अबशालोम का राजाभिषेक किया और वह युद्ध में मारा गया. तब अब राजा को वापस लाने के बारे में कुछ क्यों नहीं किया जा रहा?”

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why do you not speak a word of bringing the king back?" And the talk of all Israel came to the king.

11 राजा दावीद ने पुरोहित सादोक और अबीयाथर के लिए यह संदेश भेजा: “आप यहूदिया के पुरनियों से इस विषय में विचार-विमर्श करें: ‘राजा को उसके आवास में लौटा लाने के विषय में आप सबसे पीछे क्यों हैं, जबकि सारे इस्राएल इस विषय में राजा तक अपने विचार भेज चुका है?

So king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, "Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, 'Why are you the last to bring the king back to his palace?

12 आप मेरे रिश्तेदार हैं, आप में और मुझे में लहू-मांस का संबंध है. तब आप ही राजा की पुनःस्थापना में पीछे क्यों हैं?’

You are my brothers, you are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?'

13 अमासा से कहिये, ‘क्या तुम मेरा लहू-मांस नहीं हो? यदि योआब के स्थान पर तुम आज से ही स्थायी रूप से मेरी सेना के सेनापति का पद ग्रहण न करो, तो मैं परमेश्वर के सामने दंड के योग्य रहूंगा.’”

And say to Amasa, 'Aren't you my bone and my flesh? Now then, God do so to me, and more also, if you aren't commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab. '"

14 इस बात ने यहूदिया की जनता का हृदय एक सूत्र में बांध दिया; तब उन्होंने राजा के लिए यह संदेश भेजा, “आप और आपके सारे सेवक यहां लौट आएं.”

Thus the heart of all the men of Judah was inclined as one man, so that they sent a message to the king, "Return, you and all your servants."

15 तब राजा लौटकर यरदन नदी तक पहुंचे. तब यहूदियावासी गिलगाल नामक स्थान पर उनका स्वागत करते हुए प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे, कि उन्हें यरदन नदी के पार ले आएं.

So the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, having come down to meet the king, to bring the king across the Jordan.

16 बहुरीम नामक स्थान से बिन्यामिन के एक वंशज, गेरा के पुत्र शिमेई यहूदिया के व्यक्तियों को लेकर शीघ्रतापूर्वक राजा दावीद से भेंटकरने आ गए.

And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite who was from Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David,

17 उनके साथ बिन्यामिन वंश के हज़ार व्यक्ति भी थे. उसी समय शाऊल का गृह प्रबंधक ज़ीबा भी अपने पन्द्रह पुत्रों और बीस सेवकों के साथ, ढलान पर यरदन नदी की ओर दौड़ता हुआ राजा से भेंटकरने आया.

and a thousand men from Benjamin with him. But Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him, waded through the Jordan ahead of the king,

18 उन्होंने राजा के परिवार को नदी पार करने में सहायता दी, और उनकी सुविधाओं के लिए प्रयास करते रहे. राजा नदी पार करने पर ही थे, कि गेरा का पुत्र शिमेई आकर राजा के चरणों में गिर पड़ा.

and did the work of bringing the king across and to do whatever he wished. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he crossed the Jordan.

19 उसने राजा से तेज आवाज में विनती की, “मेरे स्वामी, न तो मुझे दोषी ठहराएं और न ही मेरे उस गलत व्यवहार को याद रखें, जो मैंने मेरे स्वामी महाराज के येरूशलेम से जाने के अवसर में किया था. महाराज इसे अपने हृदय में न रखें.

Then he said to the king, "May my lord not consider punishment. Do not remember what your servant did wrong on the day when my lord the king left Jerusalem, so that the king should call it to mind.

20 आपके सेवक को यह पता है, कि मैंने यह पाप किया है. इसलिये यह देखिए, आज मैं ही सारे योसेफ़ वंश में से पहला हूं, जो महाराज, मेरे स्वामी से भेंटकरने आया हूं.”

For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore, look, I have come today the first of all the house of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king."

21 ज़ेरुइयाह के पुत्र अबीशाई ने इसके लिए सुझाव दिया, “क्या सही नहीं कि जो कुछ शिमेई ने किया है, उसके लिए उसे मृत्यु दंड दिया जाए? उसने याहवेह के अभिषिक्त को शाप दिया था.”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah replied, "Should not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?"

22 “तुम ज़ेरुइयाह के पुत्रो,” दावीद ने कहा, “क्या लेना देना है मेरा तुम्हारा? क्या कारण है तुम आज मेरे विपरीत ही जा रहे हो? क्या आज वह दिन है, जिसमें इस्राएल के किसी भी व्यक्ति को प्राण-दंड दिया जाना सही होगा? क्या मुझे यह मालूम नहीं कि मैं इस समय इस्राएल का राजा हूं?”

But David replied, "What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should become my adversaries today? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? For do you not know that today I begin to rule over Israel?"

23 तब शिमेई से उन्मुख हो राजा ने कहा, “तुम्हें मृत्यु दंड नहीं दिया जाएगा.” इसके लिए राजा ने उससे शपथ खाई.

Then the king said to Shimei, "You will not die." And the king gave him his oath.

24 शाऊल का पुत्र मेफ़िबोशेथ भी राजा से भेंटकरने आया. जिस दिन से राजा ने पलायन किया था, उस दिन से राजा के सुरक्षित लौटने तक उसने पैरों का ध्यान न रखा था, न अपनी दाढ़ी का प्रसाधन किया था, और न ही उसने धुले हुए कपड़े पहने थे.

Now Mippibaal son of Jonathan son of Saul came down to meet the king, and he had neither cared for his feet nor trimmed his beard nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came back safely.

25 जब वह राजा से भेंटकरने येरूशलेम में आया, राजा ने उससे कहा, “मेफ़िबोशेथ, पलायन करते समय तुम मेरे साथ क्यों नहीं थे?”

And it happened when he came to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, "Why did you not go with me, Mippibaal?"

26 उसने उत्तर में कहा, “महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, मेरे सेवक ने मेरे साथ छल किया. आपके सेवक ने उससे कह रखा था, ‘मैं अपने लिए गधे की काठी कसूंगा कि मैं उस पर चढ़कर राजा के निकट जा सकूं,’ क्योंकि मैं ठहरा अपंग.

So he answered, "My lord king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said to him, 'Saddle a donkey for me so that I may ride on it and go with the king,' for your servant is lame.

27 इसके अलावा उसने महाराज, मेरे स्वामी से आपके सेवक के विरुद्ध झूठा आरोप भी प्रसारित कर दी; मगर महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, आप परमेश्वर के स्वर्गदूत तुल्य हैं; आपको जो कुछ सही लगे, आप वही करें.

And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king did that which was good in my eyes, like an angel of God.

28 महाराज मेरे स्वामी के सामने, मेरे पिता का वंश मृतकों के समान छोटा था, फिर भी आपने अपने सेवक को उनमें स्थान दिया, जो आपके साथ भोजन करने के लिए चुने गए थे. महाराज से इससे अधिक अपेक्षा करने का मेरा अधिकार ही नहीं रह जाता.”

For though all my father's house were but men doomed to death before my lord the king, yet you placed your servant among those who eat at your table. From whom, then, could I have finer treatment?" But when he cried out to the king,

29 राजा ने उससे कहा, “अब ज्यादा बोलने से क्या लाभ? मैंने यह निश्चय किया है कि तुम्हारे और ज़ीबा के बीच संपत्ति को बांट दिया जाएगा.”

the king said, "Why do you multiply your words? I say: You and Ziba divide the property."

30 मेफ़िबोशेथ ने राजा से कहा, “आप उसे संपूर्ण संपत्ति ही ले लेने दें. मेरे लिए यही काफ़ी है कि महाराज, मेरे स्वामी सुरक्षित लौट आए हैं.”

And Mippibaal said to the king, "Yes, let him take it all, since my lord the king has come safely home."

31 रोगेलिम नामक स्थान से गिलआदवासी बारज़िल्लई भी आए हुए थे. वह राजा के साथ साथ यरदन नदी तक गए थे, कि उन्हें यरदन नदी पार उतार दें.

Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim, and he went with the king to conduct him from the Jordan.

32 बारज़िल्लई बहुत वृद्ध व्यक्ति थे, वह अस्सी वर्षीय थे. राजा के माहानाईम पड़ाव के अवसर पर उन्हीं ने राजा की सुरक्षा का प्रबंध किया था, क्योंकि वहां वह अत्यंत प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्ति थे.

Now Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years old; and he had provided for the king while he was staying at Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.

33 राजा ने बारज़िल्लई से कहा, “आप मेरे साथ नदी पार कर चलिए. येरूशलेम में आप मेरे साथ रहेंगे, मैं आपको आश्रय दूंगा.”

And the king said to Barzillai, "Come over with me, and I will provide for your old age in Jerusalem with me."

34 मगर बारज़िल्लई ने राजा को उत्तर दिया, “और कितने दिन बाकी हैं मेरे जीवन के, कि मैं महाराज के साथ येरूशलेम चलूं?

But Barzillai said to the king, "How many more days would I have there, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

35 इस समय मेरी आयु अस्सी वर्ष की है. क्या मुझमें अब यह बोध रह गया है कि सुखद क्या है, और क्या नहीं? क्या आपके सेवक में अब भोजन और पेय से संबंधित स्वाद बोध शेष रह गया है? अथवा क्या में अब भी स्त्री-पुरुष गायक-वृन्द की प्रस्तुति सुनने में समर्थ रह गया हूं? तब क्या लाभ है कि आपका सेवक महाराज मेरे स्वामी पर अतिरिक्त बोझ बनकर रहे?

I am now eighty years old. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear the voice of male and female singers? Why then should your servant be any further burden to my lord the king?

36 आपका सेवक महाराज के साथ मात्र यरदन नदी पार ही करेगा, पर क्या आवश्यकता है कि महाराज प्रतिफल में यह पुरस्कार दें.

Your servant will cross the Jordan with the king for a short distance. Why should the king compensate me in this way?

37 कृपा कर अपने सेवक को लौटने की अनुमति प्रदान करें, कि मेरा देहांत मेरे ही गृहनगर में, मेरी माता-पिता की कब्र के निकट ही हो. हां, यह किमहाम है, मेरा पुत्र, आपका सेवक. उसे ही आज्ञा दें कि वह महाराज मेरे स्वामी के साथ जाए, और आपकी उपयुक्त इच्छा पूर्ण करता रहे.”

Please let your servant return, so that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and my mother. But look, here is your servant Kimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what seems good to you."

38 राजा ने सहमति प्रदान की: “किमहाम मेरे साथ अवश्य जाएगा, और मैं उसके लिए वही करूंगा, जो आपकी अभिलाषा है, साथ ही मैं आपके लिए भी वहीं करूंगा, जो मुझसे आपकी इच्छा है.”

And the king answered, "Kimham will go over with me, and I will do for him whatever I consider appropriate, and whatever you require of me I will do for you."

39 इसके बाद सभी यरदन नदी के पार चले गए, राजा ने भी नदी पार की. तब राजा ने बारज़िल्लई का चुंबन लेते हुए उन्हें आशीर्वाद दिया. इसके बाद बारज़िल्लई अपने घर लौट गए.

All the people crossed over the Jordan, but the king remained. Then the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

40 राजा गिलगाल की ओर बढ़ते गए. किमहाम राजा के साथ था. राजा के साथ यहूदिया की सभी सेना और इस्राएल की आधी सेना थी.

So the king went over to Gilgal, and Kimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

41 तब इस्राएल के सभी व्यक्ति आकर राजा से कहने लगे, “ऐसा क्यों हुआ है कि हमारे भाई-बंधुओं, यहूदियावासियों ने चुपके-चुपके यरदन के उस पार जाकर, राजा और उनके परिवार को और उनके सारे साथियों को यहां ले आए है?”

Look, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, "Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?"

42 यहूदिया के सभी निवासियों ने इस्राएल के निवासियों को उत्तर दिया, “इसलिये, कि राजा हमारे निकट संबंधी हैं. इस पर क्रुद्ध होने का क्या कारण है? क्या हमने अपने भोजन के लिए राजा की धनराशि में से खर्च किया है? अथवा क्या उन्होंने हमें उपहार में कुछ दिया है?”

The men of Judah answered the men of Israel, "Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king's cost? Has he given us a gift? Or has he brought us a portion?"

43 यह सुन इस्राएलियों ने यहूदियावासियों को उत्तर दिया, “राजा में हमारे दस अंश निहित है. तब दावीद पर हमारा अधिकार तुमसे अधिक होता ही है. तब तुमने हमें तुच्छ क्यों समझा? क्या राजा को दोबारा प्रतिष्ठित करने का प्रस्ताव सबसे पहले हमारी ओर से ही नहीं आया था?” इसमें यहूदियावासियों के वचन इस्राएलियों के उद्गारों से अधिक प्रभावी रहे.

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten shares in the king, and we are the firstborn rather than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?" But the comments of the men of Judah were more forceful than the comments of the men of Israel.
