1 प्रिय भाई बहनो, मेरी ओर से यह तुम्हें दूसरा पत्र है. इन दोनों पत्रों के द्वारा मैं तुम्हें दोबारा याद दिलाते हुए तुम्हारे निर्मल मन को छलकाना चाहता हूं.

2 यह तुम्हारे लिए ज़रूरी है कि तुम पवित्र भविष्यद्वक्ताओं द्वारा पहले से कही बातों तथा प्रेरितों के माध्यम से दिए गए हमारे प्रभु व उद्धारकर्ता के आदेशों को याद करो.

3 सबसे पहले, तुम्हारे लिए यह समझ लेना ज़रूरी है कि अंतिम दिनों में अपनी ही वासनाओं द्वारा नियंत्रित ठट्ठा करनेवालों का आगमन होगा,

5 जब वे जानबूझकर यह भूल जाते हैं कि प्राचीन काल में परमेश्वर के शब्द मात्र द्वारा आकाशमंडल अस्तित्व में आया तथा शब्द ही के द्वारा जल में से, जल के द्वारा ही पृथ्वी की रचना हुई.

6 यह उनके ठट्ठे का ही परिणाम था कि उस समय का संसार जल की बाढ़ के द्वारा नाश किया गया.

9 प्रभु अपनी प्रतिज्ञा को पूरी करने में देर नहीं करते जैसा कुछ लोगों का विचार है. वह तुम्हारे प्रति धीरज धरते हैं और नहीं चाहते कि किसी का भी विनाश हो परंतु यह कि सभी को पाप से मन फिराने का सुअवसर प्राप्‍त हो.

10 प्रभु का दिन चोर के समान अचानक से आएगा, जिसमें आकाशमंडल गड़गड़ाहट की तेज आवाज करते हुए नष्ट हो जाएगा, तत्व बहुत ही गर्म होकर पिघल जाएंगे तथा पृथ्वी और उस पर किए गए सभी काम प्रकट हो जाएंगे.

11 जब इन सभी वस्तुओं का इस रीति से नाश होना निश्चित है तो पवित्र चालचलन तथा भक्ति में तुम्हारा किस प्रकार के व्यक्ति होना सही है,

12 जब तुम परमेश्वर के दिन के लिए ऐसी लालसा में इंतजार कर रहे हो, मानो उसे गति प्रदान कर रहे हो तो इस बात के प्रकाश में जब आकाशमंडल आग से नाश कर दिया जाएगा तथा तेज गर्मी के कारण तत्व पिघल जाएंगे

13 प्रभु की प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार हम नए आकाश और नई पृथ्वी की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं, जहां धार्मिकता का वास है.

14 इसलिये प्रिय भाई बहनो, जब तुम उस दिन की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हो, कोशिश करो कि प्रभु की दृष्टि में निष्कलंक तथा निर्दोष पाए जाओ तथा तुममें उनकी शांति का वास हो.

15 हमारे प्रभु के धीरज को उद्धार समझो—ठीक जैसे हमारे प्रिय भाई पौलॉस ने उन्हें दिए गए ज्ञान के अनुसार तुम्हें लिखा है,

16 जैसे उन्होंने अपने सभी पत्रों में भी इन्हीं विषयों का वर्णन किया है, जिनमें से कुछ विषय समझने में कठिन हैं, जिन्हें अस्थिर तथा अनपढ़ लोग बिगाड़ देते हैं—जैसा कि वे शेष पवित्र शास्त्र के साथ भी करते हैं; जिससे वे स्वयं अपना ही विनाश कर लेते हैं.

17 इसलिये प्रिय भाई बहनो, यह सब पहले से जानते हुए सचेत रहो. ऐसा न हो कि अधर्मियों की गलत शिक्षा में बहककर स्थिरता से तुम गिर न जाओ.

18 हमारे प्रभु और उद्धारकर्ता मसीह येशु के अनुग्रह और ज्ञान में बढ़ते जाओ. उनकी महिमा अब भी और युगानुयुग होती रहे! आमेन. (aiōn g165)
