1 इसके पहले कि याहवेह आंधी में एलियाह को स्वर्ग में उठाते, एलियाह एलीशा के साथ गिलगाल से यात्रा पर निकल पड़े.
And it came to pass, when Jehovah would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 एलियाह ने एलीशा से कहा, “अब तुम यहीं ठहरो, क्योंकि याहवेह ने मुझे बेथेल जाने का आदेश दिया है.” मगर एलीशा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “जीवित याहवेह की शपथ और आपके जीवन की शपथ, मैं आपका साथ नहीं छोडूंगा.” तब वे दोनों ही बेथेल चले गए.
And Elijah said to Elisha, Remain here, I pray thee, for Jehovah has sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives, and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 तब बेथेल में भविष्यद्वक्ता मंडल के भविष्यद्वक्ता एलीशा के पास आकर उनसे पूछने लगे, “क्या आपको इस बात का पता है कि आज याहवेह आपके स्वामी को उठा लेने पर हैं?” “हां, मुझे मालूम है. आप चुप ही रहिए,” एलीशा ने उत्तर दिया.
And the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Do thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from thy head today? And he said, Yes, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 एलियाह ने एलीशा से कहा, “एलीशा, यहीं ठहरो, क्योंकि याहवेह मुझे येरीख़ो को भेज रहे हैं.” मगर एलीशा ने उनसे कहा, “जीवित याहवेह की शपथ, और आपकी शपथ, मैं आपका साथ नहीं छोडूंगा.” तब वे दोनों ही येरीख़ो पहुंच गए.
And Elijah said to him, Elisha, remain here, I pray thee, for Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 तब येरीख़ो में भविष्यद्वक्ता मंडल के भविष्यद्वक्ता एलीशा के पास आकर उनसे पूछने लगे, “क्या आपको इस बात का पता है कि आज याहवेह आपके स्वामी को आपसे उठा लेने पर हैं?” “हां, मुझे पता है, आप चुप ही रहिए,” एलीशा ने उत्तर दिया.
And the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, Do thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from thy head today? And he answered, Yes, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 तब एलियाह ने एलीशा से कहा, “यहीं ठहरे रहो. याहवेह मुझे यरदन को भेज रहे हैं.” एलीशा ने एलियाह को उत्तर दिया, “जीवित याहवेह की शपथ, और आपकी शपथ, मैं आपका साथ नहीं छोडूंगा.” तब दोनों ही आगे बढ़ते चले गए.
And Elijah said to him, Remain here, I pray thee, for Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. And the two went on.
7 भविष्यद्वक्ता मंडल के पचास भविष्यद्वक्ता वहां उनके सामने कुछ ही दूरी पर खड़े हो गए. एलियाह और एलीशा यरदन तट पर खड़े थे.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood opposite them afar off. And the two stood by the Jordan.
8 एलियाह ने अपनी चादर ली, उसे ऐंठ कर उससे यरदन के पानी पर वार किया. नदी का जल दाएं और बाएं दो भागों में बांटकर स्थिर हो गया, और वे दोनों सूखी ज़मीन पर चलते हुए पार निकल गए.
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two went over on dry ground.
9 नदी के पार एलियाह ने एलीशा से कहा, “इसके पहले कि मैं तुमसे दूर कर दिया जाऊं, मुझे बताओ मैं तुम्हारे लिए क्या करूं.” एलीशा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “यह, कि मुझे आपके आत्मा का दो गुणा भाग मिल जाए.”
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 एलियाह ने कहा, “तुमने बहुत कठिन बात मांग ली है; फिर भी, उस समय पर, जब मैं तुमसे दूर किया जा रहा होऊंगा, अगर तुम मुझे देख लोगे, तब तुम्हारी इच्छा पूरी हो जाएगी; मगर यदि मैं ओझल हो जाऊं, तब तुम्हारी इच्छा पूरी न होगी.”
And he said, Thou have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so to thee, but if not, it shall not be so.
11 जब वे इस तरह बातचीत करते हुए आगे बढ़ ही रहे थे, उन्हें आग के रथ और आग के घोड़े दिखाई दिए, जिन्होंने उन दोनों को अलग कर दिया. एलियाह बवंडर में होते हुए स्वर्ग में उठा लिए गए.
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which divided them both apart. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 एलीशा यह सब देख रहे थे. वह चिल्ला उठे, “मेरे पिता! मेरे पिता! और इस्राएल के रथ और सारथी!” इसके बाद एलीशा ने उन्हें फिर कभी न देखा. तब एलीशा ने अपने वस्त्र पकड़े और उन्हें फाड़कर दो भागों में बांट दिया.
And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen of it! And he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.
13 इसके बाद उन्होंने एलियाह की देह से नीचे गिरी चादर को उठा लिया, और लौटकर यरदन के तट पर जा पहुंचे.
He also took up the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
14 उन्होंने एलियाह की उस चादर से, जो एलियाह की देह पर से गिर गई थी, जल पर प्रहार किया और यह कहा, “एलियाह के परमेश्वर याहवेह कहां हैं?” जब उन्होंने जल पर वार किया तो यरदन का जल दाएं और बाएं बंट गया और एलीशा पार निकल गए.
And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah? And when he also had smitten the waters, they were divided here and there, and Elisha went over.
15 जब येरीख़ो में भविष्यद्वक्ता मंडल के भविष्यवक्ताओं ने एलीशा को आते देखा, वे कह उठे, “एलियाह की स्वर्गीय शक्ति एलीशा को मिल चुकी है.” वे सब एलीशा से भेंटकरने आ गए, और उनका अभिनंदन किया.
And when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
16 उन्होंने उन्हें सुझाया, “देखिए, अब आपकी सेवा में पचास बलवान पुरुष हैं. आप इन्हें अनुमति दे दीजिए, कि वे आपके स्वामी को खोजें. यह संभव है कि याहवेह के आत्मा ने उन्हें ले जाकर किसी पहाड़ या किसी घाटी में छोड़ दिया हो.” एलीशा ने उत्तर दिया, “कोई ज़रूरत नहीं, उन्हें भेजने की.”
And they said to him, Behold now, there are fifty strong men with thy servants. Let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master, lest the Spirit of Jehovah has taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
17 मगर वे हठ करते रहे, यहां तक कि संकोच में आकर एलीशा कह बैठे, “ठीक है, जाओ.” उन्होंने पचास बलवान युवाओं को भेज दिया. वे तीन दिन तक खोजते रहे, मगर असफल ही रहे.
And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. Therefore they sent fifty men. And they sought three days, but did not find him.
18 वे लौट आए. उस समय एलीशा येरीख़ो में ही थे. उन्हें देख एलीशा ने उनसे कहा, “मैंने पहले ही न कहा था, ‘मत जाओ?’”
And they came back to him while he remained at Jericho. And he said to them, Did I not say to you, Do not go?
19 नगरवासियों ने एलीशा से विनती की, “हमारे स्वामी, देखिए, इस नगर की स्थिति सुखद है, यह आप भी देख रहे हैं, मगर यहां पानी सही नहीं है, साथ ही ज़मीन भी उपजाऊ नहीं है.”
And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, we pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad, and the ground barren.
20 एलीशा ने आदेश दिया, “एक नए बर्तन में नमक डालकर मेरे पास ले आओ.”
And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
21 एलीशा झरने के निकट गए, नमक उसमें डाल दिया और यह घोषित किया, “यह याहवेह द्वारा भेजा हुआ संदेश है, ‘मैंने इस जल को ठीक कर दिया है. इसके बाद इस जल से न तो किसी की मृत्यु होगी, और न किसी का गर्भपात.’”
And he went forth to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and said, Thus says Jehovah, I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or barren land.
22 इसलिये आज तक उस झरने से शुद्ध जल ही निकल रहा है, जैसा एलीशा द्वारा कहा गया था.
So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.
23 इसके बाद एलीशा वहां से बेथेल चले गए. जब वह मार्ग में ही थे, नगर से कुछ बच्चे वहां आ गए और एलीशा का मज़ाक उड़ाते हुए कहने लगे, “ओ गंजे, निकल जा यहां से, निकल जा गंजे!”
And he went up from there to Bethel. And as he was going up by the way, there came forth young lads out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, thou baldhead; go up, thou baldhead.
24 एलीशा पीछे मुड़े और जब उनकी नज़र उन बालकों पर पड़ी, उन्होंने उन्हें याहवेह के नाम में शाप दिया. उसी समय बंजर भूमि में से दो रीछनियां बाहर निकल आईं और उन बयालीस बच्चों को फाड़ दिया.
And he looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Jehovah. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty-two lads of them.
25 वहां से वह कर्मेल पर्वत को गए और फिर शमरिया को लौट गए.
And he went from there to mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
