1 रेमालियाह के पुत्र पेकाह के शासन के सत्रहवें साल में योथाम का पुत्र आहाज़ यहूदिया का राजा बना.

2 शासन शुरू करते समय आहाज़ की उम्र बीस साल थी. येरूशलेम में उसने सोलह साल शासन किया. उसने वह नहीं किया जो याहवेह उसके परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में सही था—जैसा उसके पूर्वज दावीद ने किया था.

3 इसकी बजाय उसका आचरण इस्राएल के राजाओं की नीतियों के अनुसार था; यहां तक कि उसने अपने ही पुत्र को होमबलि के रूप में बलि कर दिया. यह उन जनताओं की घृणित प्रथाओं के अनुसार था, जिन्हें याहवेह ने इस्राएल राष्ट्र के सामने से निकाल दिया था.

4 वह पूजा स्थलों पर, पहाड़ियों पर और हर एक हरे वृक्ष के नीचे धूप जलाकर बलि चढ़ाता रहा.
and to sacrifice and to offer: offer in/on/with high place and upon [the] hill and underneath: under all tree luxuriant
5 तब अराम का राजा रेज़िन और इस्राएल के राजा रेमालियाह का पुत्र पेकाह येरूशलेम पर युद्ध करने के उद्देश्य से वहां आ गए. उन्होंने आहाज़ को बंदी बना लिया; किंतु वे उसे अपने वश में न कर सके.

6 उसी समय अराम के राजा रेज़िन ने एलाथ नगर को अधीन कर अराम देश में शामिल कर लिया. यह करके उसने हर एक यहूदियावासी को वहां से पूरी तरह निकाल दिया, और एलाथ में एदोमी आकर बस गए और आज भी वहीं रह रहे हैं.

7 आहाज़ ने अश्शूर के राजा तिगलथ-पलेसेर को दूतों द्वारा यह संदेश भेजा: “मैं आपका सेवक, बल्कि आपका पुत्र हूं. कृपया आकर अराम के राजा और इस्राएल के राजा से मेरी रक्षा कीजिए. ये मुझ पर हमला करने को उतारू हैं.”

8 आहाज़ को याहवेह के भवन में और राजघराने के खजाने में जितना भी सोना और चांदी मिली, वह सब उसने अश्शूर के राजा को उपहार के रूप में भेज दिया.

9 अश्शूर के राजा ने आहाज़ का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार कर लिया. तब वह दमेशेक पर हमला कर उसे अपने अधीन करके, नगरवासियों को बंदी बनाकर, उन्हें कीर नामक स्थान को ले गया, और वहां उसने रेज़िन की हत्या कर दी.

10 यह सब होने के बाद राजा आहाज़ अश्शूर के राजा तिगलथ-पलेसेर से मिलने दमेशेक गया. उसने वहां वह वेदी देखी जो दमेशेक में स्थापित की गई थी. राजा आहाज़ ने वेदी की बनावट का नक्शा पुरोहित उरियाह को भेज दिया. इसमें वेदी को बनाने के सारे शिल्प कौशल का ब्यौरा था.

11 इसके आधार पर पुरोहित उरियाह ने एक वेदी बनाई; ठीक उसी के अनुसार जैसा राजा आहाज़ ने दमेशेक से भेजा था. पुरोहित उरियाह ने राजा आहाज़ के दमेशेक से लौटने के पहले ही यह वेदी तैयार कर ली थी.
and to build Uriah [the] priest [obj] [the] altar like/as all which to send: depart [the] king Ahaz from Damascus so to make Uriah [the] priest till to come (in): come [the] king Ahaz from Damascus
12 जब राजा दमेशेक से लौटा, उसने वह वेदी देखी, राजा वेदी के पास गया,
and to come (in): come [the] king from Damascus and to see: see [the] king [obj] [the] altar and to present: come [the] king upon [the] altar and to ascend: offer up upon him
13 वहां राजा ने होमबलि और अन्नबलि चढ़ाई, राजा ने वहां अर्घ उंडेला, और अपनी मेल बलि का लहू उस वेदी पर छिड़क दिया.
and to offer: burn [obj] burnt offering his and [obj] offering his and to pour [obj] drink offering his and to scatter [obj] blood [the] peace offering which to/for him upon [the] altar
14 याहवेह के सामने रखी कांसे की वेदी को उसने भवन के सामने की ओर से, उसकी अपनी वेदी और याहवेह के भवन के बीच से हटाकर, उसने अपनी वेदी की उत्तरी दिशा में स्थापित करवा दिया.

15 तब राजा आहाज़ ने पुरोहित उरियाह को आदेश दिया, “इस नई विशाल वेदी पर आप भोर की होमबलि, शाम की अन्नबलि, राजा के लिए होमबलि और अन्नबलि और सारी प्रजा के लिए होमबलि और अन्नबलि और उनका अर्घ इस वेदी पर ही चढ़ाना, तथा होमबलि और बलि का सारा लहू इसी वेदी पर छिड़कना. मगर यह कांसे की वेदी सिर्फ मेरे ही इस्तेमाल के लिए रहेगी, कि मैं इसके द्वारा परमेश्वर की इच्छा जान सकूं.”

16 पुरोहित उरियाह ने राजा आहाज़ के आदेश के अनुसार ही किया.
and to make: do Uriah [the] priest like/as all which to command [the] king Ahaz
17 राजा आहाज़ ने ठेलों की चौखटों को काटकर उसमें से चिलमची को निकाल लिया और कांसे के बैलों के ऊपर रखे हुए पानी के बर्तन को उतारकर पत्थर के एक चबूतरे पर स्थापित कर दिया.
and to cut [the] king Ahaz [obj] [the] perimeter [the] base and to turn aside: remove from upon them ([obj] *Q(K)*) [the] basin and [obj] [the] sea to go down from upon [the] cattle [the] bronze which underneath: under her and to give: put [obj] him upon pavement stone
18 उसने याहवेह के भवन परिसर में शब्बाथ पर इस्तेमाल किए जा रहे ओसारे को और राजा के लिए बनाए गए बाहरी फाटक को अश्शूर के राजा के कारण याहवेह के भवन से हटा दिया.

19 आहाज़ के अन्य कामों का और उसकी अन्य उपलब्धियों का ब्यौरा यहूदिया के राजाओं की इतिहास की पुस्तक में दिया गया है.

20 आहाज़ हमेशा के लिए अपने पूर्वजों में जा मिला और उसे उसके पूर्वजों के बीच, दावीद के नगर में गाड़ दिया. उसकी जगह पर उसका पुत्र हिज़किय्याह शासन करने लगा.
