1 योशियाह के राजा बनने के समय उसकी उम्र आठ साल की थी और उसने येरूशलेम में एकतीस साल शासन किया.

2 उसने वह किया, जो याहवेह की दृष्टि में सही था. अपने पूर्वज दावीद के नीतियों के पथ का आचरण करता रहा. वह इनसे न तो दाएं मुड़ा और न बाएं.

3 कारण यह था कि अपने शासनकाल के आठवें साल में ही उसने अपने पूर्वज दावीद के परमेश्वर की खोज करना शुरू कर दिया. अपने शासनकाल के बारहवें साल में उसने यहूदिया और येरूशलेम को ऊंचे स्थानों पर बनाई वेदियों, अशेरा देवी की खोदी हुई और ढाली हुई मूर्तियों को हटाकर शुद्ध करना शुरू कर दिया.

4 उन्होंने राजा की उपस्थिति ही में बाल देवताओं की वेदियों, धूप वेदियों को, जो उनसे ऊंचे पर थी, काट डालीं. उसने अशेरा की खोदी हुई और ढाली गई मूर्तियों को चूर-चूर कर पीस डाला और उस बुकनी को उन लोगों की कब्र पर छिड़क दिया, जो इनके लिए बलि चढ़ाते रहे थे.

5 इसके बाद उसने बाल-अशेराह के पुरोहितों की अस्थियां इन्हीं वेदियों पर जलाकर यहूदिया और येरूशलेम को शुद्ध कर दिया.

6 मनश्शेह, एफ्राईम शिमओन में भी, यहां कि नफताली और उसके पास के क्षेत्रों में, उसने वेदियां गिरा दीं,
and in/on/with city Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon and till Naphtali (in/on/with mountain: mount in/on/with sword their *Q(K)*) around
7 अशेरा की खोदी हुई मूर्तियों को कूटकर उनका चूरा बना दिया. उसने सारे इस्राएल देश की सभी धूप वेदियों को काटकर टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिया. यह करके वह येरूशलेम लौट गया.

8 उसके शासनकाल के अट्ठारहवें साल में जब उसने सारे देश और भवन को शुद्ध कर लिया, उसने अज़लियाह के पुत्र शापान और नगर अध्यक्ष मआसेइयाह और अभिलेखक यहोआहाज़ के पुत्र योआह को याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर के भवन की मरम्मत की जवाबदारी सौंपी.

9 उन्होंने महापुरोहित हिलकियाह से भेंट की और परमेश्वर के भवन में लाई गई धनराशि उन्हें सौप दी, जो मनश्शेह, एफ्राईम और इस्राएल के भाग से और सारे यहूदिया बिन्यामिन और येरूशलेम वासियों से लेवियों और द्वारपालों द्वारा इकट्ठा की गई थी.

11 इन्होंने यह धन बढ़ई और राजमिस्त्रियों को दे दिया कि वे इससे संवारे हुए पत्थर और भवन की उन बल्लियों के लिए नई लकड़ी ले आएं, जो रख रखाव के बिना टूट-फूट चुकी थी, क्योंकि यहूदिया के राजाओं ने इनको नष्ट ही कर दिया था.
and to give: give to/for artificer and to/for to build to/for to buy stone hewing and tree: wood to/for clamp and to/for to lay beams [obj] [the] house: home which to ruin king Judah
12 अधिकारियों की देखरेख में इन शिल्पियों ने विश्वासयोग्यता से अपनी जवाबदारी पूरी की, मेरारी के पुत्र लेवी याहाथ और ओबदयाह, कोहाथ के परिवार से ज़करयाह और मेशुल्लाम अधिकारी भी थे और वे सभी श्रेणी के कामों को देखते थे कुछ लेवी लेखक कुछ अधिकारी और कुछ द्वारपाल थे.

14 जब वे याहवेह के भवन में लाया गया धन बाहर ला रहे थे, पुरोहित हिलकियाह को मोशेह द्वारा सौंपी गई याहवेह की व्यवस्था की पुस्तक मिली.

15 यह देख हिलकियाह ने लेखक शापान से कहा, “याहवेह के भवन में मुझे व्यवस्था की पुस्तक मिली है.” हिलकियाह ने पुस्तक शापान को सौंप दी.

16 शापान ने पुस्तक को राजा के सामने लाते हुए उसे कहा: “जो काम आपके सेवकों को सौंपा गया था, उसे वे कर रहे हैं.
and to come (in): bring Shaphan [obj] [the] scroll: book to(wards) [the] king and to return: reply still [obj] [the] king word to/for to say all which to give: give in/on/with hand: to servant/slave your they(masc.) to make: do
17 याहवेह के भवन में मिला सारा धन उन्होंने अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों को दे दिया है.”
and to pour [obj] [the] silver: money [the] to find in/on/with house: temple LORD and to give: give him upon hand [the] to reckon: overseer and upon hand: to to make: [do] [the] work
18 इसके अलावा लेखक शापान ने राजा को सूचित किया, “पुरोहित हिलकियाह ने मुझे एक पुस्तक दी है.” तब शापान ने राजा के सामने उस पुस्तक में से पढ़ा.

19 जब राजा ने व्यवस्था के शब्द सुने, उसने अपने वस्त्र फाड़ दिए.

20 राजा ने हिलकियाह, शापान के पुत्र अहीकाम, मीकाह के पुत्र अबदोन, लेखक शापान और राजा के सेवक असाइयाह को आदेश दिया:
and to command [the] king [obj] Hilkiah and [obj] Ahikam son: child Shaphan and [obj] Abdon son: child Micah and [obj] Shaphan [the] secretary and [obj] Asaiah servant/slave [the] king to/for to say
21 “जाओ, मेरे लिए, इस्राएल और यहूदिया की बाकी प्रजा की ओर से याहवेह से यह मालूम करो कि वह पुस्तक जो मिली है, उसका मतलब क्या है, क्योंकि भयंकर है हमारे लिए ठहराया गया याहवेह का क्रोध, इसलिये है कि हमारे पूर्वजों ने इसमें लिखी याहवेह की सारी शिक्षाओं का पालन नहीं किया है.”

23 हुलदा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदेश यह है: ‘जिस व्यक्ति ने तुम्हें मुझसे मिलने के लिए भेजा है, उससे यह कहना:

24 याहवेह का वचन यह है, “यह देखना, मैं इस स्थान पर और इसके निवासियों पर विपत्ति भेज रहा हूं. हां, वे सारे शाप, जिनका वर्णन यहूदिया प्रदेश के राजा के सम्मुख में पढ़ी गई इस पुस्तक में किया गया है.
thus to say LORD look! I to come (in): bring distress: harm upon [the] place [the] this and upon to dwell his [obj] all [the] oath [the] to write upon [the] scroll: book which to call: read out to/for face: before king Judah
25 इसलिये कि उन्होंने मुझे भुला दिया है और विदेशी देवताओं के सामने धूप जलाया है, कि वे मेरे क्रोध को अपनी सभी हाथों से बनाई हुई मूर्तियों के द्वारा भड़का दें. तब इस स्थान पर मेरा क्रोध उंडेला जाएगा और याद रखना, यह शांत नहीं होगा.”’

26 मगर यहूदिया के राजा, जिसने, तुम्हें मेरे पास भेजा है, कि मैं याहवेह से उनकी इच्छा पता करूं, उससे तुम यह कहना: ‘उन बातों के बारे में, जो तुमने सुनी है, इस्राएल के राजा को याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदेश यह है:

27 इसलिये कि तुम्हारा हृदय दीन था और तुमने जब इस स्थान के विरुद्ध और इसके निवासियों के विरुद्ध परमेश्वर के संदेश को सुनकर अपने आपको विनीत बना लिया और तुम मेरे सामने नम्र हो गए, तुमने अपने कपड़े फाड़ दिए और मेरे सामने रोते रहे, मैंने वास्तव में तुम्हारी सुन ली है. यह याहवेह ने कहा है.
because be tender heart your and be humble from to/for face: before God in/on/with to hear: hear you [obj] word his upon [the] place [the] this and upon to dwell his and be humble to/for face: before my and to tear [obj] garment your and to weep to/for face: before my and also I to hear: hear utterance LORD
28 इसलिये सुनो, मैं तुम्हें तुम्हारे पूर्वजों में मिला दूंगा. शान्तिपूर्ण स्थिति में तुम्हारा अंतिम संस्कार होगा. इस स्थान पर जो बुराई मेरे द्वारा भेजी जाएगी, उसे तुम्हारी आंखें न देखेंगी.’” यह संदेश उन्होंने राजा को जा सुनाया.

29 इसके बाद राजा ने यहूदिया और येरूशलेम के पुरनियों को बुलाकर उन्हें इकट्ठा किया.
and to send: depart [the] king and to gather [obj] all old: elder Judah and Jerusalem
30 राजा याहवेह के भवन को गया, उसके साथ यहूदिया और येरूशलेम के सभी पुरुष, पुरोहित और लेवी और साधारण से लेकर विशेष लोग भी थे. उनके सामने उसने वाचा की पुस्तक जो याहवेह के भवन में पाई गई थी, की सारी बातें पढ़ीं, जिसे सभी ने सुना.

31 तब राजा अपने स्थान पर खड़ा हुआ और याहवेह के सामने यह वाचा बांधी कि वह याहवेह का ही अनुसरण करेगा, उनके आदेशों, उनकी चेतावनियों और उनकी विधियों का पालन अपने पूरे हृदय और पूरे प्राणों से करेगा, कि वह इस पुस्तक में लिखित वाचा का पालन कर सके.
and to stand: stand [the] king upon post his and to cut: make(covenant) [obj] [the] covenant to/for face: before LORD to/for to go: walk after LORD and to/for to keep: obey [obj] commandment his and testimony his and statute: decree his in/on/with all heart his and in/on/with all soul his to/for to make: do [obj] word [the] covenant [the] to write upon [the] scroll: book [the] this
32 इसके अलावा उसने वहां उपस्थित येरूशलेम और बिन्यामिन वासियों से भी शपथ ली कि वे भी उसके साथ इसमें शामिल होंगे. तब येरूशलेम वासियों ने परमेश्वर की वाचा के अनुसार ही पालन किया-अपने पूर्वजों के परमेश्वर की वाचा के अनुसार.

33 योशियाह ने इस्राएल के वंशजों के क्षेत्रों से सभी घृणित वस्तुएं हटा दी और इस्राएल में उपस्थित सभी को याहवेह उनके परमेश्वर की ही वंदना करने के लिए प्रेरित किया. योशियाह के पूरे जीवनकाल में वे अपने पूर्वजों के परमेश्वर याहवेह का अनुसरण करते रहने से भटके नहीं.
