1 आसा के स्थान पर उसका पुत्र यहोशाफ़ात शासक बना. उसने इस्राएल राज्य के विरुद्ध अपनी स्थिति मजबूत बना ली.
Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
2 उसने यहूदिया के सभी गढ़ नगरों में सेना की टुकड़िया ठहरा दीं और यहूदिया और एफ्राईम में उसने सैनिकों की छावनियां बना दीं, जो उसके पिता आसा ने अधिकार में कर लिए थे.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
3 याहवेह यहोशाफ़ात की ओर थे क्योंकि वह अपने पिता के शुरुआती समय की नीतियों का अनुसरण करता रहा. उसने बाल की पूजा कभी नहीं की,
Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek out the Baals,
4 बल्कि वह अपने पिता के परमेश्वर की ही खोज करता रहा, उन्हीं के आदेशों का पालन करता रहा. उसने वह सब कभी न किया, जो इस्राएल राज्य ने किया था.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
5 फलस्वरूप याहवेह ने राज्य को उसके हाथ में स्थिर किया. पूरे यहूदिया राज्य की प्रजा राजा को भेंट दिया करती थी. राजा समृद्ध और सम्मान्य होता गया.
So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
6 याहवेह की नीतियों के प्रति वह बहुत ही उत्साही था. उसने यहूदिया राज्य में से सारे ऊंचे स्थानों पर बनी वेदियां और अशेराह देवी के खंभे नाश कर दिए.
And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
7 अपने शासन के तीसरे साल में उसने यहूदिया के नगरों में शिक्षा फैलाने के उद्देश्य से अपने ये अधिकारी भेज दिए: बेन-हाइल, ओबदिया, ज़करयाह, नेथानेल और मीकायाह.
In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
8 इनके साथ लेवी शेमायाह, नेथनियाह, ज़ेबादिया, आसाहेल, शेमिरामोथ, योनातन, अदोनियाह, तोबियाह और तोबादोनियाह. ये सभी लेवी थे. इनके साथ पुरोहित एलीशामा और यहोराम भी भेजे गए थे.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9 इनके साथ याहवेह की व्यवस्था की पुस्तक थी. यहूदिया में उन्होंने इससे शिक्षा दी; उन्होंने सारे यहूदिया राज्य में घूमते हुए प्रजा को शिक्षा प्रदान की.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 यहूदिया के पास के सभी राष्ट्रों में याहवेह का आतंक फैल चुका था. फलस्वरूप उन्होंने कभी यहोशाफ़ात पर हमला नहीं किया.
And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
11 कुछ फिलिस्तीनी तक यहोशाफ़ात को भेंट और चांदी चढ़ाया करते थे. अरब देश के लोगों ने उसके लिए सात हज़ार, सात सौ मेढ़े और सात हज़ार, सात सौ बकरे भेंट में दिए.
Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
12 तब यहोशाफ़ात दिन पर दिन उन्नत होता चला गया. उसने यहूदिया राज्य में गढ़ और भंडार नगर बनाए.
Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
13 यहूदिया में उसने बड़े भंडार घर बनवाकर रखे थे, साथ ही उसने येरूशलेम में योद्धा और वीर व्यक्ति चुनकर रखे थे.
and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
14 उनके पूर्वजों के परिवारों के अनुसार उनकी गिनती इस प्रकार थी: यहूदिया से एक हज़ार अधिकारी प्रधान: अदनाह तीन हज़ार कुशल सैनिकों का सेनापति था;
These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;
15 येहोहानन दो लाख अस्सी हज़ार का सेनापति था;
next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
16 ज़ीकरी का पुत्र अमासियाह अपनी इच्छा से याहवेह की सेवा कर रहा था. उसने दो लाख कुशल सैनिकों का नेतृत्व किया.
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
17 बिन्यामिन क्षेत्र से: एक वीर योद्धा था एलियादा और उसके साथ थे दो लाख सैनिक, जो धनुष और ढाल से लैस थे;
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
18 उसके बाद था योज़ाबाद उसके साथ एक लाख अस्सी हज़ार युद्ध के लिए तैयार सैनिक थे.
and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
19 ये सभी सारे यहूदिया में बने गढ़ नगरों में राजा द्वारा नियुक्त सैनिकों के अलावा राजा की सेवा में लगे थे.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
