1 शमूएल 8
1 बूढ़ा होने पर शमुएल ने अपने पुत्रों को इस्राएल का न्यायाध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया.
When Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 उनके प्रथम पुत्र का नाम था योएल तथा द्वितीय का अबीयाह. वे बेअरशेबा में रहते हुए न्याय करते थे.
The name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second son was Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.
3 मगर उनके पुत्रों का आचरण उनके समान न था. वे अनुचित रीति से धनार्जन में लग गए. वे घूस लेते तथा न्याय को विकृत कर देते थे.
His sons did not walk in his ways, but chased after dishonest gain. They took bribes and perverted justice.
4 तब इस्राएल के सब नेतागण एकजुट होकर रामाह में शमुएल के पास आए.
Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.
5 उन्होंने शमुएल से कहा, “देखिए, आप वयोवृद्ध हो चले हैं, आपके पुत्र आपके समान नहीं हैं. इसलिए अब जिस प्रकार अन्य जनताओं में प्रचलित है, उसी प्रकार आप हमारे लिए एक राजा चुन दें, कि वह हम पर शासन करे.”
They said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
6 शमुएल इस विनती को सुनकर अप्रसन्न हो गए. क्योंकि उन्होंने उनसे कहा था, “हम पर शासन करने के लिए हमें एक राजा दीजिए.” तब शमुएल ने याहवेह से प्रार्थना की.
But it displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to Yahweh.
7 याहवेह ने शमुएल से कहा, “ठीक वही करो, जिसकी विनती ये लोग कर रहे हैं. उन्होंने तुम्हें नहीं, परंतु मुझे अपने राजा के रूप में अस्वीकार कर दिया है.
Yahweh said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in everything they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
8 ठीक जिस प्रकार वे उस समय से करते चले आ रहे हैं, जिस दिन से मैंने उन्हें मिस्र से विमुक्त किया, तब से आज तक, ये लोग मेरा परित्याग कर पराए देवताओं की आराधना करते रहे हैं; ठीक यहीं वे तुम्हारे साथ भी कर रहे हैं.
They are acting now the same as they did since the day I brought them out of Egypt, forsaking me, and serving other gods, and so they are also doing to you.
9 तब सही यही होगा कि तुम वही करो जो ये लोग चाह रहे हैं. हां, उन्हें इस विषय में गंभीर चेतावनी अवश्य दे देना कि वह राजा, जो उन पर शासन करेगा, उसकी नीतियां कैसी होंगी.”
Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know the way the king will rule over them.”
10 तब शमुएल ने याहवेह द्वारा अभिव्यक्त सारा विचार जिन्होंने उनसे राजा की नियुक्ति की विनती की थी उन लोगों के सामने प्रस्तुत किए.
So Samuel told all the words of Yahweh to the people who were asking for a king.
11 शमुएल ने उनसे कहा, “जो राजा तुम पर शासन करेगा, उसकी नीतियां इस प्रकार होंगी: वह तुम्हारे पुत्रों को लेकर अपनी रथों की सेना, तथा घुड़सवारों के रूप में चुनेगा, कि वे उसके रथों के आगे-आगे दौड़ा करें.
He said, “This will be the practice of the king who will reign over you. He will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen, and to run before his chariots.
12 वह अपने लिए हज़ार पर तथा पचासों के लिए आदेशक चुनेगा. वह अपनी भूमि पर हल चलाने के लिए, उपज कटने के लिए तथा युद्ध के शस्त्र तथा रथों के लिए उपकरण निर्माता भी चुनेगा.
He will appoint for himself captains of thousands and captains of fifties. He will make some plow his ground, some reap his harvest, and some make his weapons of war and the equipment for his chariots.
13 वह तुमसे तुम्हारी पुत्रियां लेकर उन्हें सुगंध बनाने, रसोई कर्मचारी तथा सेंकने की कर्मचारी के रूप में चुनेगा.
He will also take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.
14 वह तुम्हारे सर्वोत्तम खेत, अंगूर के बगीचे तथा ज़ैतून उद्यान तुमसे लेकर अपने सेवकों को सौंप देगा.
He will take the very best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive orchards, and give them to his servants.
15 वह तुम्हारे अनाज में से तथा द्राक्ष उद्यान में से दसवां अंश लेकर अपने अधिकारियों तथा अपने सेवकों को दे देगा.
He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vineyards and give to his officers and his servants.
16 वह तुम्हारे सेवक-सेविकाएं तथा तुम्हारे सर्वोत्तम युवाओं तथा गधों को लेकर स्वयं अपने कामों में लगा देगा.
He will take your male servants and your female servants and the best of your young men and your donkeys; he will put them all to work for him.
17 वह तुम्हारे पशुओं के दसवां अंश ले लेगा और तुम उसके दास बन जाओगे.
He will take the tenth of your flocks, and you will be his slaves.
18 तब उस समय तुम अपने राजा के विरुद्ध दोहाई दोगे, जिसे तुम्हीं ने चुना था; मगर तब याहवेह तुम्हारी छुड़ौती के लिए नहीं आएंगे.”
Then on that day you will cry out because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves; but Yahweh will not answer you on that day.”
19 मगर लोगों ने शमुएल के चेतावनी वचनों पर विचार करना अस्वीकार कर दिया. उन्होंने कहा, “कुछ भी हो! हमें तो राजा चाहिए ही!
But the people refused to listen to Samuel; they said, “No! There must be a king over us
20 हम चाहते हैं कि हम भी अन्य राष्ट्रों के समान हों. हमारा राजा ही हमारा न्यायाध्यक्ष होगा, वह हम पर शासन करेगा, वही हमारे लिए युद्ध करेगा.”
so that we might be like all the other nations, and so that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
21 जब शमुएल लोगों की सारी मांगें सुन चुके, उन्होंने सभी कुछ याहवेह को सुना दिया.
When Samuel heard all the words of the people he repeated them in the ears of Yahweh.
22 याहवेह ने शमुएल से कहा, वही करो, जो वे चाहते हैं. “उनके लिए एक राजा चुन दो.” शमुएल ने इस्राएल के दूतों से कहा, “तुममें से हर एक अपने-अपने नगर को लौट जाए.”
Yahweh said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and cause someone to be king for them.” So Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man must go to his own city.”
