1 शमूएल 26

1 यह वह मौका था जब ज़ीफ़ नगर के लोगों ने जाकर शाऊल को सूचित किया, “दावीद जेशिमोन के पूर्व में हकीलाह पहाड़ियों में छिपे हुए हैं.”

And the Ziphites came unto Saul in Gibeah, saying, —Is not David hiding himself in the hill of Hachilah, overlooking Jeshimon?

2 तब शाऊल तैयार होकर इस्राएल के तीन हज़ार सर्वोत्तम योद्धाओं को लेकर दावीद की खोज करते हुए ज़ीफ़ की मरुभूमि में जा पहुंचे.

Then Saul arose, and went down into the wilderness of Ziph, and, with him, three thousand chosen men of Israel, —to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3 शाऊल ने अपने शिविर जेशिमोन के पूर्व में हकीलाह की पहाड़ी के मार्ग के निकट खड़े किए. मगर दावीद निर्जन प्रदेश में ही रहे. जब दावीद को यह मालूम हुआ कि शाऊल उन्हें खोजते हुए यहां तक आ पहुंचे हैं,

And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which overlooketh Jeshimon, by the way, —but, David, was staying in the wilderness, so he saw that Saul was coming after him into the wilderness.

4 उन्होंने यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अपने दूत वहां भेज दिए.

David therefore sent runners, —and took knowledge that Saul had come, for a certainty.

5 बाद में दावीद खुद गए और उस स्थान की जांच पड़ताल की, जहां शाऊल की सेना ने पड़ाव डाला हुआ था. उन्होंने वह स्थल देखा, जहां शाऊल और सेनापति, नेर के पुत्र अबनेर, सोए हुए थे. शाऊल विशेष सुरक्षा के स्थल में सोए थे और सारी सेना उन्हें घेरे हुए सोई हुई थी.

So then David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped, and David saw the place where Saul was lying, with Abner, son of Ner, prince of his host, —and, Saul, was lying within the circular trench, with, the people, encamped round about him.

6 दावीद ने हित्ती अहीमेलेख तथा ज़ेरुइयाह के पुत्र, योआब के भाई अबीशाई को संबोधित करते हुए प्रश्न किया, “कौन है तत्पर मेरे साथ शाऊल के शिविर में सेंध लगाने के लिए?” “मैं चलूंगा आपके साथ.” अबीशाई ने उत्तर दिया.

And David responded, and said unto Ahimelech the Hittite, and unto Abishai son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, Who will go down with me unto Saul, within the camp? And Abishai said, I, will go down with thee.

7 उस रात दावीद तथा अबीशाई सेना के पड़ाव में चले गए. वहां शाऊल विशेष सुरक्षा के स्थल में सोए हुए थे. उनका भाला उनके सिर के निकट भूमि में गड़ा हुआ था, तथा अबनेर तथा सारी सेना उन्हें घेरे हुए सो रही थी.

So David came, with Abishai, unto the people by night, and lo! Saul lying asleep, within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground, at his head, —and Abner and the people lying round about him.

8 यह देख अबीशाई ने दावीद से कहा, “आज तो परमेश्वर ने आपके शत्रु को आपके हाथों में सौंप दिया है. मैं अपने भाले के एक ही प्रहार से उन्हें भूमि में नत्थी कर देता हूं; मुझे दूसरा प्रहार करने की आवश्यकता तक न होगी.”

Then said Abishai unto David, God hath surrendered, to-day, thine enemy, into thy hand: Now, therefore, let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear to the earth, at one stroke, I, will not do it twice.

9 मगर दावीद ने अबीशाई को उत्तर दिया, “उन्हें मत मारो! क्या, याहवेह के अभिषिक्त पर हाथ उठाकर कोई निर्दोष रह सकता है?”

But David said unto Abishai, Do not destroy him, —for who that hath thrust forth his hand against the Anointed of Yahweh, shall be guiltless?

10 दावीद ने आगे कहा, “जीवन्त याहवेह की शपथ, स्वयं याहवेह ही उनका संहार करेंगे, या उनकी मृत्यु उनके लिए निर्धारित समय पर होगी, या यह युद्ध करने जाएंगे और वहां मारे जाएंगे.

And David said—By the life of Yahweh, surely, Yahweh himself, must smite him, —or, his day, must come that he die, or, into battle, must he go down, and be swept away.

11 याहवेह ऐसा कभी न होने दें कि मैं याहवेह के अभिषिक्त पर हाथ उठाऊं, अब ऐसा करो: उनके सिर के निकट गाड़ हुए भाले को उठाओ और उनके उस जल पात्र को भी, और चलो हम लौट चलें.”

Far be it from me, of Yahweh, that I should thrust forth my hand against the anointed of Yahweh! Now, therefore, take, I pray thee, the spear that is at his head, and the cruse of water, and let us go our way.

12 दावीद ने वह भाला तथा सिर के निकट रखे जल पात्र को उठाया और वे दोनों वहां से बाहर निकल आए. उन्हें न तो किसी ने देखा और न ही किसी को इसके विषय में कुछ ज्ञात ही हुआ. उन सभी पर घोर निद्रा छाई हुई थी; याहवेह द्वारा उन पर डाली गई घोर निद्रा.

So David took the spear, and the cruse of water, from near the head of Saul, and they went their way, —and no man saw, and no man knew, and no man awoke, for all of them were sleeping, for, a deep sleep from Yahweh, had fallen upon them.

13 तब दावीद पहाड़ी के दूसरी ओर चले गए, और दूर जाकर पहाड़ी के शीर्ष पर जा खड़े हुए. उनके और पड़ाव के मध्य अब दूरी हो गई थी.

Then David crossed over to the other side, and took his stand on the top of the mountain, afar off, —a great space, being between them.

14 वहां से दावीद ने सेना और नेर के पुत्र अबनेर को पुकारकर कहा, “अबनेर, आप मुझे उत्तर देंगे?” अबनेर ने उत्तर दिया, “कौन हो तुम, जो राजा को पुकार रहे हो?”

And David cried aloud unto the people, and unto Abner son of Ner, saying, Wilt thou not answer, Abner? Then answered Abner, and said, Who art thou, that hast cried aloud unto the king?

15 दावीद ने अबनेर से कहा, “क्या आप शूर व्यक्ति नहीं? अंततः सारे इस्राएल राष्ट्र में कौन है आपके तुल्य? तब आपने आज अपने स्वामी, राजा की सुरक्षा में ढील क्यों दी है? आज रात कोई व्यक्ति आपके स्वामी, राजा की हत्या के उद्देश्य से शिविर में घुस आया था.

And David said unto Abner—Art not thou, a man? Who indeed is like thee, in Israel? Wherefore, then, hast thou not kept watch over thy lord, the king? For one of the people hath entered, to destroy the king—thy lord.

16 आपके द्वारा दी गई यह ढील खेद का विषय है. वस्तुतः जीवन्त याहवेह की शपथ, यह अपराध मृत्यु दंड के योग्य है, क्योंकि आपने अपने स्वामी, याहवेह के अभिषिक्त, की सुरक्षा में ढील दी है. देख लीजिए. राजा के सिरहाने गड़ा हुआ भाला तथा उनका जल पात्र कहां है?”

Not good, is this thing which thou hast done, by the life of Yahweh, verily, worthy of death, ye are, in that ye have not kept watch over your lord, over, the Anointed of Yahweh. Now, therefore, see where the spear of the king is, and the cruse of water, that was at his head?

17 शाऊल दावीद का स्वर पहचान गए. उन्होंने उनसे कहा, “दावीद, मेरे पुत्र, क्या यह तुम्हारा ही स्वर है?” “जी हां, महाराज, मेरे स्वामी,” दावीद ने उत्तर दिया.

And Saul knew the voice of David, and said—Thy voice, is this, my son David? And David said, My voice, my lord O king!

18 तब दावीद ने ही आगे यह कहा, “मेरे स्वामी, आप क्यों अपने सेवक का पीछा कर रहे हैं? क्या है मेरा दोष? ऐसा कौन सा अपराध हो गया है मुझसे?

And he said, Wherefore is it, that my lord is in pursuit of his servant? For what have I done? or what is in my hand that is wrong?

19 तब महाराज, मेरे स्वामी, अपने सेवक द्वारा प्रस्तुत यह याचना सुन लीजिए! यदि स्वयं याहवेह ने ही आपको मेरे विरुद्ध यह करने के लिए उत्प्रेरित किया है, वह एक भेंट स्वीकार कर लें, मगर यदि यह सब किसी मनुष्य की प्रेरणा में किया जा रहा है, वे याहवेह द्वारा शापित हों. क्योंकि आज मुझे याहवेह द्वारा दी गई मीरास को छोड़कर इधर-उधर भटकना पड़ रहा है, मानो मुझे यह आदेश दिया गया हो, ‘जाओ अज्ञात देवताओं की आराधना करो,’

Now, therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant, —If, Yahweh, have goaded thee on against me, let him accept the sweet smell of a gift, but, if the sons of men, accursed, they are before Yahweh, for they have driven me out, to-day, from joining myself with the inheritance of Yahweh, saying—Go, serve other gods!

20 तब मेरी विनती है मेरा रक्त याहवेह द्वारा दी गई मीरास से दूर न गिरने दें, क्योंकि तथ्य यह है कि इस्राएल राष्ट्र के महाराज सिर्फ एक पिस्सू का पीछा करते हुए ऐसे आए हैं, जैसे कोई पर्वतों पर तीतर का पीछा करता है.”

Now, therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth, away from the presence of Yahweh, —for the king of Israel hath come out to hunt for a single flea, as when one pursueth a partridge among the mountains.

21 तब शाऊल कह उठे, “मुझसे पाप हुआ है. मेरे पुत्र दावीद, लौट आओ, क्योंकि अब से मैं तुम्हारी कोई हानि न करूंगा. आज तुमने मेरे प्राण को ऐसा मूल्यवान समझा है. बहुत ही मूर्खतापूर्ण रहे हैं मेरे द्वारा उठाए गए ये कदम और वास्तव में मुझसे बड़ी भूल हुई है.”

Then said Saul—I have sinned, Return, my son David, for I will harm thee no more, because my life was precious in thine eyes, this day, —lo! I have acted foolishly and, greatly, erred.

22 दावीद ने उत्तर दिया, “महाराज, मैं आपका भाला यहां छोड़ रहा हूं. किसी सैनिक को इसे लेने के लिए भेज दीजिए.

And David responded, and said, Lo! the spear of the king! Let, therefore, one of the young men come over, and fetch it.

23 हर एक व्यक्ति के लिए उसकी धार्मिकता तथा सच्चाई के अनुसार ईनाम निर्धारित है. याहवेह ने आज आपको मेरे हाथों में सौंप दिया था, मगर याहवेह के अभिषिक्त पर मैंने हाथ नहीं उठाया.

And let, Yahweh, give back to each man, his righteousness, and his faithfulness, —in that Yahweh delivered thee, to-day, into my hand, but I would not thrust forth my hand against the Anointed of Yahweh.

24 जिस प्रकार मेरी दृष्टि में आपके प्राण अमूल्य हैं, मेरे प्राण भी याहवेह की दृष्टि में अमूल्य बने रहें. वही मुझे सारी कठिनाइयों से विमुक्त करें.”

Lo! then, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so, let my life be much set by in the eyes of Yahweh, and let him rescue me out of all tribulation.

25 तब शाऊल ने दावीद से कहा, “दावीद, मेरे पुत्र, तुम सराहनीय हो! तुम महान काम करोगे और तुम्हें सदैव सफलता ही प्राप्‍त होगी.” दावीद, इसके बाद वहां से चले गए और शाऊल अपने घर को लौट गए.

Then said Saul unto David—Blessed, be thou, my son David, thou shalt both, do, and shalt, prevail. And David went on his way, but, Saul, returned unto his own place.
