1 शमूएल 25

1 शमुएल की मृत्यु हो गई. सारा इस्राएलियों ने एकत्र होकर उनके लिए विलाप किया; उन्हें उनके गृहनगर रामाह में गाड़ दिया. इसके बाद दावीद पारान के निर्जन प्रदेश में जाकर रहने लगे.

And Samuel died; and all the Israelites assembled themselves together, and lamented for him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

2 कालेब के कुल का एक व्यक्ति था, वह माओन नगर का निवासी था. कर्मेल नगर के निकट वह एक भूखण्ड का स्वामी था. वह बहुत ही धनी व्यक्ति था. उसके तीन हज़ार भेड़ें, तथा एक हज़ार बकरियां थी.

And there was a man in Ma'on, whose business was in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was, while they were shearing his sheep, at Carmel.

3 उसका नाम नाबाल था और उसकी अबीगइल नामक पत्नी थी, जो बहुत ही रूपवती एवं विदुषी थी. मगर वह स्वयं बहुत ही नीच, क्रूर तथा क्रुद्ध प्रकृति का था.

Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigayil: and the woman was of good understanding, and of a beautiful form; but the man was hard-hearted and evil in his deeds; and he was of the house of Caleb.

4 इस समय दावीद निर्जन प्रदेश में थे, और उन्हें मालूम हुआ कि नाबाल भेड़ों का ऊन क़तर रहा है.

And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

5 तब दावीद ने वहां दस नवयुवक भेज दिए और उन्हें यह आदेश दिया, “नाबाल से भेंटकरने कर्मेल नगर चले जाओ और उसे मेरी ओर से शुभकामनाएं तथा अभिवंदन प्रस्तुत करना.

And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and ask him in my name after his well-being.

6 तब तुम उससे कहना: ‘आप पर तथा आपके परिवार पर शांति स्थिर रहें! आप चिरायु हों! आपकी सारी संपत्ति पर समृद्धि बनी रहे!

And ye shall say, May it thus be throughout thy life; and peace be to thee, and peace be to thy house, and unto all that thou hast be peace.

7 “‘मुझे यह समाचार प्राप्‍त हुआ है कि आपकी भेड़ों का ऊन क़तरा जा रहा है. जब आपके चरवाहे हमारे साथ थे, सारे समय जब वे कर्मेल में थे, हमने न तो उन्हें अपमानित किया, न उन्हें कोई हानि पहुंचाई है.

And now have I heard that thou hast sheep-shearers: now thy shepherds have been with us, we have not injured them, neither hath there aught been missing unto them, all the time they were at Carmel.

8 आप स्वयं अपने सेवकों से इस विषय में पूछ सकते हैं. आपकी कृपा हम पर बनी रहे. हम आपकी सेवा में उत्सव के मौके पर आए हैं. कृपया अपने सेवकों को, तथा अपने पुत्र समान सेवक दावीद को, जो कुछ आपको सही लगे, दे दीजिए.’”

Ask thy young men, and they will tell it thee. Therefore let the young men find favor in thy eyes; for on a festive day are we come: give, I pray thee, whatsoever thy hand is capable of unto thy servants, and to thy son, to David.

9 दावीद के नवयुवक साथी वहां गए, और दावीद की ओर से नाबाल को यह संदेश दे दिया, और वे नाबाल के प्रत्युत्तर की प्रतीक्षा करने लगे.

And David's young men came, and they spoke to Nabal in accordance with all these words in the name of David; and then they ceased.

10 “कौन है यह दावीद?” नाबाल ने दावीद के साथियों को उत्तर दिया, “और कौन है यह यिशै का पुत्र? कैसा समय आ गया है, जो सारे दास अपने स्वामियों को छोड़-छोड़कर भाग रहे हैं.

And Nabal answered the servants of David, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? now-a-days there are many servants that break away every one from his master.

11 अब क्या मेरे लिए यही शेष रह गया है कि मैं अपने सेवकों के हिस्से का भोजन लेकर इन लोगों को दे दूं? मुझे तो यही समझ नहीं आ रहा कि ये लोग कौन हैं, और कहां से आए हैं?”

Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my sheep-shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they are?

12 तब दावीद के साथी लौट गए. लौटकर उन्होंने दावीद को यह सब सुना दिया.

And David's young men turned about on their way, and returned, and came and told him in accordance with all these words.

13 दावीद ने अपने साथियों को आदेश दिया, “हर एक व्यक्ति अपनी तलवार उठा ले!” तब सबने अपनी तलवार धारण कर ली. दावीद ने भी अपनी तलवार धारण कर ली. ये सब लगभग चार सौ व्यक्ति थे, जो इस अभियान में दावीद के साथ थे, शेष लगभग दो सौ उनके विभिन्‍न उपकरणों तथा आवश्यक सामग्री की रक्षा के लिए ठहर गए.

And David said unto his men, Gird ye on, every man, his sword. And they girded on, every man, his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men, and two hundred abode by the baggage.

14 इसी बीच नाबाल के एक सेवक ने नाबाल की पत्नी अबीगइल को संपूर्ण घटना का वृत्तांत सुना दिया, “दावीद ने हमारे स्वामी के पास मरुभूमि से अपने प्रतिनिधि भेजे थे, कि वे उन्हें अपनी शुभकामनाएं प्रस्तुत करें, मगर स्वामी ने उन्हें घोर अपमान करके लौटा दिया है.

But one of the young men told Abigayil, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master; but he hath spoken rudely to them.

15 ये सभी व्यक्ति हमारे साथ बहुत ही सौहार्दपूर्ण रीति से व्यवहार करते रहे थे. उन्होंने न कभी हमारा अपमान किया, न कभी हमारी कोई हानि ही की. जब हम मैदानों में भेड़ें चराया करते थे हमारी कोई भी भेड़ नहीं खोई. हम सदैव साथ साथ रहे.

Whereas the men have been very good unto us; and we have not been injured, neither have we missed any thing, all the time that we went about with them, while we were in the field:

16 दिन और रात संपूर्ण समय वे मानो हमारे लिए सुरक्षा की दीवार बने रहते थे, जब हम उनके साथ मिलकर भेड़ें चराया करते थे.

A wall were they around us both by night and by day, all the time we were with them, feeding the flocks.

17 अब आप स्थिति की गंभीरता को पहचान लीजिए और विचार कीजिए, कि अब आपका क्या करना सही होगा, क्योंकि अब हमारे स्वामी और उनके संपूर्ण परिवार के लिए बुरा योजित हो चुका है. वह ऐसा दुष्ट व्यक्ति हैं, कि कोई उन्हें सुझाव भी नहीं दे सकता.”

And now know and consider what thou canst do; for evil is determined on against our master, and against all his household; and he is too greatly a worthless man for me to speak to him.

18 यह सुनते ही अबीगइल ने तत्काल दो सौ रोटियां, दो छागलें द्राक्षारस, पांच भेड़ें, जो पकाई जा चुकी थी, पांच माप भुना हुआ अन्‍न, किशमिश के सौ पिंड तथा दो सौ पिंड अंजीरों को लेकर गधों पर लाद दिया.

And Abigayil made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.

19 “उसने अपने सेवकों को आदेश दिया, मेरे आगे-आगे चलो, मैं तुम्हारे पीछे आऊंगी.” मगर स्वयं उसने इसकी सूचना अपने पति नाबाल को नहीं दी.

And she said unto her young men, Pass on before me: behold, I come after you. But to her husband Nabal she told nothing.

20 जब वह अपने गधे पर बैठी हुई पर्वत के उस गुप्‍त मार्ग पर थी, उसने देखा कि दावीद तथा उनके साथी उसी की ओर बढ़े चले आ रहे थे, और वे आमने-सामने आ गए.

And it was so, as she was riding on the ass, and coming down by the covert of the mount, that, behold, David and his men came down toward her; and she met them.

21 इस समय दावीद विचार कर ही रहे थे, “निर्जन प्रदेश में हमने व्यर्थ ही इस व्यक्ति की संपत्ति की ऐसी रक्षा की, कि उसकी कुछ भी हानि नहीं हुई, मगर उसने इस उपकार का प्रतिफल हमें इस बुराई से दिया है.

Now David had said, Yea, for naught only have I guarded all that belongeth to this fellow in the wilderness, so that not the least was missed of all that pertained unto him; and he hath requited me evil instead of good.

22 यदि प्रातःकाल तक उसके संबंधियों में से एक भी नर जीवित छोड़ दूं, तो परमेश्वर दावीद के शत्रुओं से ऐसा ही, एवं इससे भी बढ़कर करें!”

So may God do unto the enemies of David, and do so yet farther, if I leave of all that pertaineth to him by the morning light, as much as a dog.

23 दावीद को पहचानते ही अबीगइल तत्काल अपने गधे से उतर पड़ीं, उनके सामने मुख के बल गिर दंडवत हुई.

And when Abigayil saw David, she hastened, and alighted off the ass, and fell down before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground.

24 तब उन्होंने दावीद के चरणों पर गिरकर उनसे कहा, “दोष सिर्फ मेरा ही है, मेरे स्वामी, अपनी सेविका को बोलने की अनुमति दें, तथा आप मेरा पक्ष सुन लें.

And she fell at his feet, and said, On me, me, my lord, is the fault: and let thy hand-maid, I pray thee, speak in thy hearing, and listen to the words of thy hand-maid.

25 मेरे स्वामी, कृपया आप इस निकम्मे व्यक्ति नाबाल के कड़वे वचनों पर ध्यान न दें. उसकी प्रकृति ठीक उसके नाम के ही अनुरूप है. उसका नाम है नाबाल और मूर्खता उसमें सचमुच व्याप्‍त है. खेद है कि उस समय मैं वहां न थी, जब आपके साथी वहां आए हुए थे.

Let not my Lord, I pray thee, turn his heart unto this worthless man, unto Nabal; for as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and meanness is with him; but I thy hand-maid did not see the young men of my Lord, whom thou didst send.

26 और अब मेरे स्वामी, याहवेह की शपथ, आप चिरायु हों, क्योंकि याहवेह ने ही आपको रक्तपात के दोष से बचा लिया है, और आपको यह काम अपने हाथों से करने से रोक दिया है. अब मेरी कामना है कि आपके शत्रुओं की, जो आपकी हानि करने पर उतारू हैं, उनकी स्थिति वैसी ही हो, जैसी नाबाल की.

And now, my lord, as the Eternal liveth, and as thy soul liveth, it is the Lord who hath withholden thee from coming to blood-guiltiness, and from helping thyself with thy own hand; and now may like Nabal be thy enemies, and those that seek [to do] my Lord evil.

27 अब आपकी सेविका द्वारा लाई गई इस भेंट को हे स्वामी, आप स्वीकार करें कि इन्हें अपने साथियों में बाट दें.

And now this present which thy hand-maid hath brought unto my Lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow in the train my Lord.

28 “कृपया अपनी सेविका की इस भूल को क्षमा कर दें. याहवेह आपके परिवार को प्रतिष्ठित करेंगे, क्योंकि मेरे स्वामी याहवेह के प्रतिनिधि होकर युद्ध कर रहे हैं. अपने संपूर्ण जीवन में अपने किसी का बुरा नहीं चाहा है.

Pardon, I pray thee, the trespass of thy hand-maid; for the Lord will certainly make for my lord an enduring house; because the battles of the Lord doth my lord fight, and evil will not be found in thee all thy days.

29 यदि कोई आपके प्राण लेने के उद्देश्य से आपका पीछा करना शुरू कर दे, तब मेरे स्वामी का जीवन याहवेह, आपके परमेश्वर की सुरक्षा में जीवितों की झोली में संचित कर लिया जाएगा, मगर आपके शत्रुओं के जीवन को इस प्रकार दूर प्रक्षेपित कर देंगे, जैसे गोफन के द्वारा पत्थर फेंक दिया जाता है.

And though a man is risen up to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: yet will the soul of my Lord be bound in the bond of life with the Lord thy God; and the soul of thy enemies will he hurl away, as out of the middle of the sling.

30 याहवेह मेरे स्वामी के लिए वह सब करेंगे, जिसकी उन्होंने आपसे प्रतिज्ञा की है. वह आपको इस्राएल के शासक बनाएंगे,

And it shall come to pass, when the Lord will do to my lord, in accordance with all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and will ordain thee as ruler over Israel,

31 अब आपकी अंतरात्मा निर्दोष के लहू बहाने के दोष से न भरेगी, और न आपको इस विषय में कोई खेद होगा कि आपने स्वयं बदला ले लिया. मेरे स्वामी, जब याहवेह आपको उन्‍नत करें, कृपया अपनी सेविका को अवश्य याद रखियेगा.”

That this shall not be unto thee as a cause of offense and as a reproach of heart unto my lord, both by having shed blood without cause, and by my lord having righted himself; and when the Lord will do good unto my lord, then do thou remember thy hand-maid.

32 अबीगइल से ये उद्गार सुनकर दावीद ने उन्हें संबोधित कर कहा, “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर की स्तुति हो, जिन्होंने आपको मुझसे भेंटकरने भेज दिया है.

And David said to Abigayil, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent thee this day to meet me;

33 सराहनीय है आपका उत्तम अनुमान! आज मुझे रक्तपात से रोक देने के कारण आप स्वयं सराहना की पात्र हैं. आपने मुझे आज स्वयं बदला लेने की भूल से भी बचा लिया है.

And blessed be thy intelligence, and blessed be thou, who hast prevented me this day from coming unto blood-guiltiness, and from helping myself with my own hand.

34 याहवेह, इस्राएल के जीवन्त परमेश्वर की शपथ, जिन्होंने मुझे आपका बुरा करने से रोक दिया है, यदि आप आज इतने शीघ्र मुझसे भेंटकरने न आयी होती, सबेरे, दिन का प्रकाश होते-होते, नाबाल परिवार का एक भी नर जीवित न रहता.”

But truly, as the Lord the God of Israel liveth, who hath withdrawn me from injuring thee, except thou hadst hastened and come to meet me, surely there would not have been left unto Nabal by the morning-light so much as a dog.

35 तब दावीद ने उसके हाथ से उसके द्वारा लाई गई भेंटें स्वीकार की और उसे इस आश्वासन के साथ विदा किया, “शांति से अपने घर लौट जाओ, मैंने तुम्हारी बात मान ली और तुम्हारी विनती स्वीकार कर लिया.”

And David took out of her hand that which she had brought him; and unto her he said, Go up in peace to thy house: see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have respected thy presence.

36 जब अबीगइल घर पहुंची, नाबाल ने अपने आवास पर एक भव्य भोज आयोजित किया हुआ था. ऐसा भोज, मानो वह राजा हो. उस समय वह बहुत ही उत्तेजित था तथा बहुत ही नशे में था. तब अबीगइल ने सुबह तक कोई बात न की.

And Abigayil came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, and he was exceedingly drunken; wherefore she told him not a word, either little or great, until the morning-light.

37 सुबह, जब नाबाल से शराब का नशा उतर चुका था, उसकी पत्नी ने उसे इस विषय से संबंधित सारा विवरण सुना दिया. यह सुनते ही नाबाल को पक्षाघात हो गया, और वह सुन्‍न रह गया.

But it happened in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things; and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.

38 लगभग दस दिन बाद याहवेह ने नाबाल पर ऐसा प्रहार किया कि उसकी मृत्यु हो गई.

And it came to pass in about ten days thereafter, that the Lord struck Nabal, and he died.

39 जब दावीद ने नाबाल की मृत्यु का समाचार सुना, वह कह उठे, “धन्य हैं याहवेह, जिन्होंने नाबाल द्वारा किए गए मेरे अपमान का बदला ले लिया है. याहवेह अपने सेवक को बुरा करने से रोके रहे तथा नाबाल को उसके दुराचार का प्रतिफल दे दिया.” दावीद ने संदेशवाहकों द्वारा अबीगइल के पास विवाह का प्रस्ताव भेजा.

And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the Lord, who hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath withheld his servant from evil; and the wickedness of Nabal hath the Lord returned upon his own head. And David sent and applied for Abigayil, to take her to himself for wife.

40 दावीद के संदेशवाहकों ने कर्मेल नगर जाकर अबीगइल को कहा: “हमें दावीद ने आपके पास भेजा है कि हम आपको अपने साथ उनके पास ले जाएं, कि वे आपसे विवाह कर सकें.”

And the servants of David came to Abigayil to Carmel, and they spoke unto her, saying, David hath sent us unto thee, to take thee to himself for wife.

41 वह तत्काल उठी, भूमि पर दंडवत होकर उनसे कहा, “आपकी सेविका मेरे स्वामी के सेवकों के चरण धोने के लिए तत्पर दासी हूं.”

Thereupon she arose, and bowed herself with her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thy hand-maid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.

42 अबीगइल विलंब न करते उठकर तैयार हो गई. वह अपने गधे पर बैठी और दावीद के संदेशवाहकों के साथ चली गई. उसके साथ उसकी पांच सेविकाएं थी. वहां वह दावीद की पत्नी हो गई.

And Abigayil hastened, and arose, and rode upon an ass, with her five damsels that went in her train; and she went after the messengers of David, and she became his wife.

43 दावीद ने येज़्रील नगरवासी अहीनोअम से भी विवाह किया. ये दोनों ही उनकी पत्नी बन गईं.

David also took Achino'am of Yizre'el; and both of them became thus his wives.

44 इस समय तक शाऊल ने अपनी बेटी मीखल, जो वस्तुतः दावीद की पत्नी थी, लायीश के पुत्र पालतिएल को, जो गल्लीम नगर का वासी था, सौंप दी थी.

But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti, the son of Layish, who was of Gallim.
