1 दावीद रामाह के नाइयोथ से भी भागे. उन्होंने योनातन के पास आकर उनसे पूछा, “क्या किया है मैंने, बताओ? कहां हुई है मुझसे भूल? क्या अपराध किया है मैंने तुम्हारे पिता का, जो वह आज मेरे प्राणों के प्यासे हो गए हैं?”
And David fled from Naioth by Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity, and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeks my life?
2 “असंभव!” योनातन ने उनसे कहा. “यह हो ही नहीं सकता कि तुम्हारी हत्या हो! मेरे पिता साधारण असाधारण कोई भी काम बिना मुझे बताए करते ही नहीं. भला इस विषय को वे मुझसे क्यों छिपाएंगे? नहीं. यह असंभव है!”
And he said to him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, and not apprise me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
3 दावीद ने शपथ लेकर कहा, “तुम्हारे पिता को तुम्हारे और मेरे गहरे संबंधों का पूर्ण पता है, ‘तब उन्होंने यह सही समझा है कि इस विषय में तुम्हें कुछ भी जानकारी न हो, अन्यथा तुम दुःखी विचलित हो जाओगे.’ जीवन्त याहवेह तथा तुम्हारी शपथ, मेरी मृत्यु मुझसे सिर्फ एक पग ही दूर है.”
And David swore again and again, and said, Thy father certainly knows that I have found favour in thy sight: and he has thought, Jonathan shall not know this, lest he be grieved; but truly [as] Jehovah liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
4 योनातन ने इस पर दावीद से पूछा, “तो बताओ, अब मैं तुम्हारे लिए क्या कर सकता हूं?”
And Jonathan said to David, What thy soul may say, I will even do it for thee.
5 तब दावीद ने योनातन को यह सुझाव दिया: “कल नवचंद्र उत्सव है. रीति के अनुसार मेरा राजा के भोज में उपस्थित रहना अपेक्षित है. तुम्हें मुझे अवकाश देना होगा कि मैं आज से तीसरे दिन की शाम तक मैदान में जाकर छिप जाऊं.
And David said to Jonathan, Behold, to-morrow is new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.
6 यदि तुम्हारे पिता को मेरी अनुपस्थिति का पता हो जाए, तो तुम उनसे कहो, ‘दावीद ने एक बहुत ही ज़रूरी काम के लिए अपने गृहनगर बेथलेहेम जाने की छुट्टी ली है. वहां उसके पूरे परिवार का बलि चढ़ाने का उत्सव है.’
If thy father should actually miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
7 यदि तुम्हारे पिता कहें, ‘ठीक है,’ कोई बात नहीं, तब इसका मतलब होगा कि तुम्हारा सेवक सुरक्षित है. मगर यदि यह सुनते ही वह क्रुद्ध हो जाएं, तो यह समझ लेना कि उन्होंने मेरा बुरा करने का निश्चय कर लिया है.
If he say thus, It is well, — thy servant shall have peace; but if he be very wroth, be sure that evil is determined by him.
8 तब तुम अपने सेवक के प्रति कृपालु रहना, क्योंकि तुमने ही याहवेह के सामने अपने सेवक के साथ वाचा बांधी है. मगर यदि तुम्हारी दृष्टि में मैंने कोई अपराध किया है, तुम स्वयं मेरे प्राण ले लो, क्या आवश्यकता है, इसमें तुम्हारे पिता को शामिल करने की?”
Deal kindly then with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of Jehovah with thee; but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?
9 “कभी नहीं!” योनातन ने कहा. “यदि मुझे लेश मात्र भी यह पता होता कि मेरे पिता तुम्हारा बुरा करने के लिए ठान चुके हैं, क्या मैं तुम्हें न बताता?”
And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for, if I knew with certainty that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, would I not tell it thee?
10 तब दावीद ने योनातन से कहा, “अब बताओ, तुम्हारे पिता द्वारा दिए गए प्रतिकूल उत्तर के विषय में कौन मुझे सूचित करेगा?”
Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?
11 योनातन ने उनसे कहा, “आओ, बाहर मैदान में चलें.” जब वे दोनों मैदान में पहुंच गए.
And Jonathan said to David, Come and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.
12 योनातन ने दावीद से कहा, “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर मेरे गवाह हैं. कल या परसों लगभग इसी समय, जब मैं अपने पिता के सामने यह विषय छोड़ूंगा, यदि दावीद के विषय में उनकी मंशा अच्छी दिखाई दे, तो क्या में तुम्हें इसकी सूचना न दूंगा?
And Jonathan said to David, Jehovah, God of Israel, when I sound my father about this time to-morrow, [or] the next day, and behold, there be good toward David, and I then send not to thee, and apprise thee of it,
13 मगर यदि मेरे पिता का संतोष तुम्हारी बुराई में ही है, तब याहवेह यह सब, तथा इससे भी अधिक योनातन के साथ करें, यदि मैं तुम्हें इसके विषय में सूचित न करूं, और तुम्हें इसका समाचार न दूं, कि तुम यहां से सुरक्षा में विदा हो सको. याहवेह की उपस्थिति तुम्हारे साथ इसी प्रकार बनी रहे, जिस प्रकार मेरे पिता के साथ बनी रही थी.
Jehovah do so and much more to Jonathan. Should it please my father [to do] thee evil, then I will apprise thee of it, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and Jehovah be with thee, as he has been with my father.
14 जब तक मैं जीवित रहूं, मुझ पर याहवेह का अपार प्रेम प्रकट करते रहना,
And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of Jehovah, that I die not,
15 मगर यदि मेरी मृत्यु हो जाए, तो मेरे परिवार के प्रति अपने अपार प्रेम को कभी न भुलाना—हां, उस स्थिति में भी, जब याहवेह दावीद के सारा शत्रुओं का अस्तित्व धरती पर से मिटा देंगे.”
but thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever, no, not when Jehovah cuts off the enemies of David, every one from the face of the earth.
16 तब योनातन ने यह कहते हुए दावीद के परिवार से वाचा स्थापित की, “याहवेह दावीद के शत्रुओं से प्रतिशोध लें.”
And Jonathan made [a covenant] with the house of David, [saying, ] Let Jehovah even require [it] at the hand of David's enemies!
17 एक बार फिर योनातन ने दावीद के साथ शपथ ली, क्योंकि दावीद उन्हें बहुत ही प्रिय थे. वस्तुतः योनातन को दावीद अपने ही प्राणों के समान प्रिय थे.
And Jonathan caused David to swear again, by the love he had for him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
18 योनातन ने उनसे कहा, “कल नवचंद्र उत्सव है और तुम्हारा आसन रिक्त रहेगा तब सभी के सामने तुम्हारी अनुपस्थिति स्पष्ट हो जाएगी.
And Jonathan said to him, To-morrow is the new moon; and thou wilt be missed, for thy seat will be empty;
19 परसों शीघ्र ही उस स्थान पर, पत्थरों के ढेर के पीछे छिप जाना, जहां तुम पहले भी छिपे थे. तुम वहीं ठहरे रहना.
but on the third day thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself on the day of the business, and abide by the stone Ezel.
20 मैं इस ढेर के निकट तीन बाण छोड़ूंगा, मानो में किसी लक्ष्य पर तीर छोड़ रहा हूं.
And I will shoot three arrows on the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.
21 जब मैं लड़के को उन बाणों के पीछे भेजूंगा, मैं कहूंगा, ‘जाकर बाण खोज लाओ.’ और तब यदि मैं लड़के से कहूं, ‘वह देखो, बाण तुम्हारे इसी ओर हैं,’ ले आओ उन्हें, तब तुम यहां लौट आना, क्योंकि जीवन्त याहवेह की शपथ, तुम्हारे लिए कोई जोखिम न होगा और तुम पूर्णतः सुरक्षित हो.
And behold, I will send the lad, [saying, ] Go, find the arrows. If I expressly say to the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come, for there is peace for thee, and it is nothing; [as] Jehovah liveth.
22 मगर यदि मैं लड़के से यह कहूं, ‘सुनो! बाण तुम्हारी दूसरी ओर हैं,’ तब तुम्हें भागना होगा, क्योंकि याहवेह ने तुम्हें दूर भेजना चाहा है.
But if I say thus to the youth: Behold, the arrows are beyond thee, — go thy way; for Jehovah sends thee away.
23 जिस विषय पर हम दोनों के बीच चर्चा हुई है, उसका सदा-सर्वदा के लिए याहवेह हमारे गवाह हैं.”
And as to the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, Jehovah is between me and thee for ever.
24 तब दावीद जाकर मैदान में छिप गए. नवचंद्र उत्सव के मौके पर राजा भोज के लिए तैयार हुए.
And David hid himself in the field; and it was the new moon, and the king sat at table to eat.
25 राजा अपने निर्धारित स्थान पर बैठे थे, जो दीवार के निकट था. योनातन का स्थान उनके ठीक सामने था. सेनापति अबनेर शाऊल के निकट बैठे थे. दावीद का आसन खाली था.
And the king sat on his seat, as at other times, on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.
26 शाऊल ने इस विषय में कोई प्रश्न नहीं किया; इस विचार में “उसके साथ अवश्य कुछ हो गया है; वह सांस्कारिक रूप से आज अशुद्ध होगा. हां, वह अशुद्ध ही होगा.”
And Saul said nothing that day; for he thought, Something has befallen [him], that he is not clean: surely he is not clean.
27 मगर जब दूसरे दिन भी, नवचंद्र दिवस के दूसरे दिन भी, दावीद का आसन रिक्त ही था, शाऊल ने योनातन से पूछा, “क्या कारण है यिशै का पुत्र न तो कल भोजन पर आया, न ही आज भी?”
And it came to pass the next day after the new moon, the second [day of the month], as David's place was empty, that Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse come to table, neither yesterday nor to-day?
28 योनातन ने शाऊल को उत्तर दिया, “दावीद ने एक बहुत ही आवश्यक काम के लिए मुझसे बेथलेहेम जाने की अनुमति ली है.
And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me [to go] to Bethlehem,
29 उसने विनती की, ‘मुझे जाने की अनुमति दो, क्योंकि हम अपने गृहनगर में बलि अर्पण कर रहे हैं. और मेरे भाई ने आग्रह किया है कि मैं वहां आ जाऊं, तब यदि मुझ पर तुम्हारी कृपादृष्टि है, मुझे मेरे भाइयों से भेंटकरने की अनुमति दीजिए.’ इसलिये आज वह इस भोज में शामिल नहीं हो सका है.”
and said, Let me go, I pray thee; for we have a family sacrifice in the city; and my brother himself has commanded me [to be there]; and now, if I have found favour in thy sight, let me go away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. He has therefore not come to the king's table.
30 यह सुनते ही योनातन पर शाऊल का क्रोध भड़क उठा, वह कहने लगे, “भ्रष्ट और विद्रोही स्त्री की संतान! क्या मैं समझ नहीं रहा, कि तूने अपनी लज्जा तथा अपनी मां की लज्जा के लिए यिशै के पुत्र का पक्ष ले रहा है?
And Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame and to the shame of thy mother's nakedness?
31 यह समझ ले, कि जब तक इस पृथ्वी पर यिशै का पुत्र जीवित है, तब तक न तो तू, और न तेरा राज्य प्रतिष्ठित हो सकेगा. अब जा और उसे यहां लेकर आ, क्योंकि उसकी मृत्यु निश्चित है!”
For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. And now send and fetch him to me, for he must die.
32 योनातन ने अपने पिता शाऊल से प्रश्न किया, “क्यों है उसकी मृत्यु निश्चित? क्या किया है उसने ऐसा?”
And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be put to death? what has he done?
33 यह सुनते ही शाऊल ने भाला फेंककर योनातन को घात करना चाहा. अब योनातन को यह निश्चय हो गया, कि उसके पिता दावीद की हत्या के लिए दृढ़ संकल्प किया हैं.
Then Saul cast the spear at him to smite him; and Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to put David to death.
34 क्रोध से अभिभूत योनातन भोजन छोड़ उठ गए; नवचंद्र के दूसरे दिन भी उन्होंने भोजन न किया, क्योंकि वह अपने पिता के व्यवहार से लज्जित तथा दावीद के लिए शोकाकुल थे.
And Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no meat the second day of the new moon; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
35 प्रातःकाल योनातन एक लड़के को लेकर दावीद से भेंटकरने मैदान में नियमित स्थान पर पहुंचे.
And it came to pass in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field, to the place agreed on with David, and a little lad with him.
36 उन्होंने उस लड़के को आदेश दिया, “दौड़कर उन बाणों को खोज लाओ जो मैं छोड़ने पर हूं.” जैसे ही लड़के ने दौड़ना शुरू किया, योनातन ने एक बाण उसके आगे लक्ष्य करते हुए छोड़ दिया.
And he said to his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I shoot. The lad ran, and he shot the arrow beyond him.
37 जब वह लड़का उस स्थल के निकट पहुंचा, योनातन ने पुकारते हुए उससे कहा, “क्या वह बाण तुमसे आगे नहीं गिरा है?”
And when the lad came to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad and said, Is not the arrow away beyond thee?
38 योनातन ने फिर पुकारा, “जल्दी करो! दौड़ो विलंब न करो!” लड़का बाण उठाकर अपने स्वामी के पास लौट आया.
And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not! And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
39 (यह सब क्या हो रहा था, इसका उस लड़के को लेश मात्र भी पता नहीं था. रहस्य सिर्फ दावीद और योनातन के मध्य सीमित था.)
And the lad knew nothing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
40 इसके बाद योनातन ने अपने शस्त्र उस लड़के को इस आदेश के साथ सौंप दिए, “इन्हें लेकर नगर लौट जाओ.”
And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.
41 जब वह लड़का वहां से चला गया, दावीद ने पत्थरों के उस ढेर के पीछे से उठकर योनातन को नमन किया. तब दोनों एक दूसरे का चुंबन करते हुए रोते रहे—दावीद अधिक रो रहे थे.
The lad went, and David arose from the side of the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times; and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
42 योनातन ने दावीद से कहा, “तुम यहां से शांतिपूर्वक विदा हो जाओ, क्योंकि हमने याहवेह के नाम में यह वाचा बांधी है, ‘मेरे और तुम्हारे बीच तथा मेरे तथा तुम्हारे वंशजों के मध्य याहवेह, हमेशा के गवाह हैं.’” तब दावीद वहां से चले गए और योनातन अपने घर लौट गए.
And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have both of us sworn in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever! And he arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.
