1 फिर हन्‍नाह ने यह प्रार्थना गीत गाया: “मेरा हृदय याहवेह में आनंद कर रहा है; याहवेह ने मेरे सींग को ऊंचा किया है, मैं ऊंचे स्वर में शत्रुओं के विरुद्ध बोलूंगी, क्योंकि मैं अपनी जय में आनंदित हूं.

At that time Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the LORD in whom my horn is exalted. My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, for I rejoice in Your salvation.

2 “पवित्रता में कोई भी याहवेह समान नहीं है; आपके अलावा दूसरा कोई भी नहीं है; हमारे परमेश्वर समान चट्टान कोई नहीं.

There is no one holy like the LORD. Indeed, there is no one besides You! And there is no Rock like our God.

3 “घमण्ड़ की बातें अब खत्म कर दी जाए, कि कोई भी अहंकार भरी बातें तुम्हारे मुंह से न निकले, क्योंकि याहवेह वह परमेश्वर हैं, जो सर्वज्ञानी हैं, वह मनुष्य के कामों को परखते रहते हैं.

Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogance come from your mouth, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by Him actions are weighed.

4 “वीरों के धनुष तोड़ दिए गए हैं, मगर जो कमजोर थे उनका बल स्थिर हो गया.

The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble are equipped with strength.

5 वे, जो भरपेट भोजन कर संतुष्ट रहते थे, वे अब मजदूरी पाने के लिए काम ढूंढ़ रहे हैं. मगर अब, जो भूखे रहा करते थे, भूखे न रहे. वह जो बांझ हुआ करती थी, आज सात संतान की जननी है, मगर वह, जो अनेक संतान की माता है, उसकी स्थिति दयनीय हो गई है.

The well-fed hire themselves out for food, but the starving hunger no more. The barren woman gives birth to seven, but she who has many sons pines away.

6 “याहवेह ही हैं, जो प्राण ले लेते तथा जीवनदान देते हैं; वही अधोलोक में भेज देते, तथा वही जीवित करते हैं. (Sheol h7585)

The LORD brings death and gives life; He brings down to Sheol and raises up. (Sheol h7585)

7 याहवेह ही कंगाल बनाते, तथा वही धनी बनाते हैं; वही गिराते हैं और वही उन्‍नत करते हैं.

The LORD sends poverty and wealth; He humbles and He exalts.

8 वह निर्धन को धूलि से उठाते हैं, वही दरिद्रों को भस्म के ढेर से उठाकर उन्‍नत करते हैं; कि वे प्रधानों के सामने बैठ सम्मानित किए जाएं, तथा वे ऊंचे पद पर बैठाए जाएं. “पृथ्वी की नींव याहवेह की है; उन्होंने इन्हीं पर पृथ्वी की स्थापना की है.

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap. He seats them among princes and bestows on them a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s, and upon them He has set the world.

9 वह अपने श्रद्धालुओं की रक्षा करते रहते हैं, मगर दुष्टों को अंधकार में निःशब्द कर दिया जाता है. “क्योंकि कोई भी व्यक्ति अपने बल के कारण विजयी नहीं होता;

He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.

10 याहवेह के विरोधी चकनाचूर कर दिए जाएंगे. याहवेह स्वर्ग से उनके विरुद्ध बिजली गिराएंगे; याहवेह का न्याय पृथ्वी के एक छोर से दूसरे तक होता है. “वह अपने राजा को शक्ति-सम्पन्‍न करते हैं, तथा अपने अभिषिक्त के सींग को ऊंचा कर देते हैं.”

Those who oppose the LORD will be shattered. He will thunder from heaven against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth and will give power to His king. He will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

11 यह सब होने के बाद एलकाना रामाह नगर में अपना घर लौट गए, मगर वह बालक पुरोहित एली की उपस्थिति में रहकर याहवेह की सेवा करने लगा.

Then Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy began ministering to the LORD before Eli the priest.

12 एली के पुत्र बुरे चरित्र के थे. उनके लिए न तो याहवेह के अधिकार का कोई महत्व था;

Now the sons of Eli were wicked men; they had no regard for the LORD

13 और न ही बलि चढ़ाने की प्रक्रिया में जनसाधारण के साथ पुरोहितों की सामान्य रीति का. होता यह था कि जब बलि चढ़ाई जा चुकी थी, और बर्तन में मांस उबाला जा रहा था, पुरोहित का सेवक एक तीन तरफा कांटा लिए हुए बर्तन के निकट आता था,

or for the custom of the priests with the people. When any man offered a sacrifice, the servant of the priest would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling

14 वह इसे बर्तन में डालकर चुभोता था और जितना मांस तीन तरफा कांटा में लगा हुआ आता था, उसे पुरोहित अपने लिए रख लेता था. ऐसा वे शीलो नगर में आए सभी इस्राएलियों के साथ करते थे.

and plunge it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.

15 यहां तक कि सांस्कारिक रीति से चर्बी के जलाए जाने के पहले ही पुरोहित के सेवक आकर बलि चढ़ाने वाले व्यक्ति को आदेश देते थे, “बर्तन में डाले जाने के पहले ही पुरोहित के लिए निर्धारित मांस हमें कच्चा ही दे दो कि उसे भूनकर प्रयुक्त किया जा सके.”

Even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”

16 यदि बलि अर्पित करनेवाला व्यक्ति उत्तर में यह कहता था, “ज़रा वसा तो जल जाने दो, फिर जो चाहे वह अंश ले लेना,” वे कहते थे, “नहीं, यह तो हम अभी ही ले जाएंगे; यदि नहीं दोगे, तो हम ज़बरदस्ती ले जाएंगे.”

And if any man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you may take whatever you want,” the servant would reply, “No, you must give it to me right now. If you refuse, I will take it by force!”

17 याहवेह की दृष्टि में यह बहुत ही गंभीर पाप था; क्योंकि ऐसा करते हुए वे याहवेह को चढ़ाई गई बलि का अपमान कर रहे थे.

Thus the sin of these young men was severe in the sight of the LORD, for they were treating the LORD’s offering with contempt.

18 इस समय शमुएल याहवेह की उपस्थिति में रहते हुए सेवा कर रहे थे. वह पुरोहितों के समान ही वस्त्र धारण करते थे.

Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD—a boy wearing a linen ephod.

19 जब उनकी माता अपने पति के साथ वार्षिक बलि चढ़ाने के लिए वहां आती थी, वह बालक शमुएल के लिए नियमित रूप से ऐसे वस्त्र बनाकर लाया करती थी.

Each year his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him when she went with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.

20 एलकाना तथा उनकी पत्नी के लिए एली इस प्रकार के आशीर्वाद दिया करते थे: “याहवेह तुम्हारे लिए इस स्त्री के द्वारा संतान प्रदान करें, कि जिस बालक को इसने याहवेह को समर्पित किया है, उसका खालीपन भर जाए.” तब वे अपने घर लौट जाते थे.

And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the LORD give you children by this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD.” Then they would go home.

21 तब याहवेह ने अपनी कृपादृष्टि में हन्‍नाह की सुधि ली. उसने गर्भधारण किया और उनके तीन पुत्र और दो पुत्रियां पैदा हुए. बालक शमुएल याहवेह के भवन में विकसित होते चले गए.

So the LORD attended to Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.

22 इस समय एली बहुत ही बूढ़े हो चुके थे. उन्हें इसकी सूचना दी जा चुकी थी कि अपने पुत्र इस्राएल के साथ दुर्व्यवहार कर रहे हैं और वे उन स्त्रियों के साथ शारीरिक संबंध भी करते थे, जिन्हें मिलाप तंबू के प्रवेश पर सेवा के लिए नियुक्त किया जाता था.

Now Eli was very old, and he heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

23 एली ने अपने पुत्रों से कहा, “तुम ये सब क्यों कर रहे हो? तुम्हारे इन सभी बुरे कामों की ख़बरें मुझे सभी के द्वारा मिल रही हैं.

“Why are you doing these things?” Eli said to his sons. “I hear about your wicked deeds from all these people.

24 मेरे पुत्रो, यह गलत है. आज याहवेह की प्रजा में तुम्हारे किए हुए कामों की ख़बर जो फैली है, वह ठीक नहीं है.

No, my sons; it is not a good report I hear circulating among the LORD’s people.

25 यदि एक व्यक्ति किसी दूसरे के विरुद्ध पाप करे, तो उसके लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा विनती संभव है; मगर यदि कोई याहवेह ही के विरुद्ध पाप करे, तब उसकी विनती के लिए कौन बाकी रह जाता है?” मगर एली के पुत्रों को उनके पिता का तर्क अस्वीकार ही रहा, क्योंकि याहवेह उनके प्राण लेने का निश्चय कर चुके थे.

If a man sins against another man, God can intercede for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to their father, since the LORD intended to put them to death.

26 इस समय बालक शमुएल बढ़ता जा रहा था. उस पर याहवेह की कृपादृष्टि तथा लोगों का प्रेम बना था.

And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with man.

27 परमेश्वर द्वारा भेजा हुआ एक व्यक्ति एली के पास आया और उनसे कहा, “यह याहवेह का संदेश है: ‘क्या मैंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों पर अपने आपको साफ़-साफ़ प्रकट नहीं किया था, जब वे मिस्र देश में फ़रोह के परिवार के अधीन थे?

Then a man of God came to Eli and told him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal Myself to your father’s house when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh’s house?

28 इस्राएल के सारा गोत्रों में से मैंने तुम्हारे गोत्र को अपना पुरोहित होने के लिए नामित किया कि वे मेरी वेदी पर बलि अर्पण करें, उस पर धूप जलाएं तथा मेरे सामने पुरोहितों के लिए निर्धारित पुरोहित कपड़ा, एफ़ोद पहनकर मेरे सामने उपस्थित हुआ करें. मैंने ही तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को यह आज्ञा दी कि इस्राएली प्रजा द्वारा अर्पित अग्निबलि का हिस्सा तुम्हें दे दी जाएं.

And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.

29 फिर क्या कारण है कि मेरे आवास से संबंधित जिन बलियों तथा भेटों का मैंने आदेश दिया था, तुम उनकी अवहेलना कर रहे हो? मेरी प्रजा इस्राएल द्वारा अर्पित सभी भेटों के सर्वोत्तम अंशों को खा-खाकर वे स्वयं पुष्ट हुए जा रहे हैं! यह करते हुए तुमने मेरी अपेक्षा अपने पुत्रों को अधिक सम्मान दिया है?’

Why then do you kick at My sacrifice and offering that I have prescribed for My dwelling place? You have honored your sons more than Me by fattening yourselves with the best of all the offerings of My people Israel.’

30 “इसलिये याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर की यह घोषणा, ‘मैंने यह अवश्य कहा था कि तुम्हारा वंश तथा तुम्हारे पूर्वजों का वंश सदा-सर्वदा मेरी सेवा करता रहेगा,’ मगर अब याहवेह की यह वाणी है, ‘अब मैं यह कभी न होने दूंगा! क्योंकि मैं उन्हें ही सम्मान दूंगा, जो मुझे सम्मान देते हैं, तथा जो मुझे तुच्छ मानते हैं, वे शापित हो जाएंगे.

Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever. But now the LORD declares: Far be it from Me! For I will honor those who honor Me, but those who despise Me will be disdained.

31 निकट हैं वे दिन, जब मैं न केवल तुम्हारा, परंतु तुम्हारे पिता के संपूर्ण वंश का बल शून्य कर दूंगा, यहां तक कि तुम्हारे परिवार में कोई भी व्यक्ति कभी भी बुढ़ापे तक नहीं पहुंचेगा.

Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that no older man will be left in your house.

32 तब तुम पीड़ित होकर धुंधली आंखों से इस्राएल को दी जा रही समृद्धि को स्वयं देखोगे. तुम्हारे परिवार में कभी भी कोई व्यक्ति बूढ़ा न हो सकेगा.

You will see distress in My dwelling place. Despite all that is good in Israel, no one in your house will ever again reach old age.

33 फिर भी तुम्हारे परिवार के जो सदस्य को मैं वेदी की सेवा से वंचित न करूंगा, वह अपने हृदय की दारुण वेदना में रोते-रोते अपने नेत्रों की ज्योति खो बैठेगा. तुम्हारे सभी वंशज मनुष्यों द्वारा चलाई तलवार से घात किए जाएंगे. तुम्हारे परिवार के हर एक व्यक्ति का निधन जीवन के जवानी में ही हो जाएगा.

And every one of you that I do not cut off from My altar, your eyes will fail and your heart will grieve. All your descendants will die by the sword of men.

34 “‘तुम्हारे लिए इसकी पुष्टि का चिन्ह यह होगा कि तुम्हारे दोनों पुत्रों, होफ़नी तथा फिनिहास में होगी: दोनों एक ही दिन में मर जाएंगे.

And this sign shall come to you concerning your two sons Hophni and Phinehas: They will both die on the same day.

35 जब यह सब हो जाएगा, तब मैं अपने लिए एक विश्वसनीय पुरोहित को तैयार करूंगा. वह मेरे हृदय और आत्मा की अभिलाषा पूर्ण करेगा. उसके लिए मैं उसके वंश को स्थिरता प्रदान करूंगा. वही सदा-सर्वदा मेरे चुने हुए का पौरोहित्य करता रहेगा.

Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest. He will do whatever is in My heart and mind. And I will build for him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed one for all time.

36 तुम्हारे परिवार में जो कोई शेष रह जाएगा, वह उसके सामने झुककर उससे सिर्फ चांदी के एक सिक्‍के के लिए या रोटी के एक टुकड़े के लिए विनती करेगा. हर एक की याचना यह होगी, “मुझे पुरोहित के काम में लगा लीजिए, कि कम से कम मैं रोटी का एक टुकड़ा तो खा सकूं.”’”

And everyone left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a morsel of bread, pleading, “Please appoint me to some priestly office so that I can eat a piece of bread.”’”
